Pan It! - 2021 Challenge πŸ†

Welcome to the 2021 Pan It Challenge !!

HUGE round of applause for the 2020 Panners πŸ‘πŸΎπŸ‘πŸΎπŸ‘πŸΎ Despite an incredibly hectic year I couldn't be more proud of each and every one of you who spent even a second thinking about your projects.  It was a huge inspiration for me and I'm sure others as well.  Cannot wait to see your new projects and whatever this year has in store for us!

The "Rules"

To accommodate a variety of interests, you all are encouraged to pick items to pan that are most suitable to your collections.  For some, this might mean focusing on a particular type of product (like lipstick) and for others this may include a larger variety spanning your entire makeup or skincare routine.

Getting Started (please share the following)

  • Which item(s) you would like to work on
  • How long you will work on said item
  • Goal: explore a new item, revisit an old item, decide whether to keep pass or trash, and/or completely finish item, etc.
  • Starting photo of item

Please Use This Thread To...

  • share what item(s) you are working on,
  • provide comparative progress photos of your item(s) monthly (at the beginning of the month when possible),
  • ask questions,
  • encourage others,
  • motivate others with the looks you create with your item(s)

Tips and Tricks to Panning/Getting Some Use Out of Your Stash:

  • Take photos!!  When you think you aren’t making a dent in anything look back at those photos, I’m certain you’ll see some changes πŸ˜ƒ
  • If you goal is to hit pan or use something up entirely, try concentrating your brush/applicator in the same area each time you use it
  • Multitask your products: eyeshadows as highlighter, lipstick as blush, eyeshadow as brow powder, etc.
  • Layer eyeshadow to create different colors (this is especially helpful to get use out of shades you’re not fond of).
  • Have shadows with a ton of fall out?  Use water
  • Watching the progress of others’ can be fun but try not compare your progress to theirs.  We all use our makeup differently and have different goals.
  • Don’t restrict yourself to only using the item(s) you are working on.  It’s more than OK to incorporate other items or take a break!
  • Makeup should be fun….if you begin to dread doing your makeup because you made a commitment to use a product that you now hate, TOSS IT!  Do not force yourself to use up something you don’t like.  Move on to something else!  (This includes excluding particular shades from your goals if focusing on palettes, etc.)

Ideas to Help You Pan Those Items:

  • Roll the dice: number your items and use a random number generator to pick what you will use each (day/week/month/etc.)
  • Layer/Mask: items you are less fond of under things you like
  • Pan a Look: at the beginning of the week pick a look that you can wear everyday
  • Recreate: a look worn by a fellow BICer, celebrity, etc.
  • Spice up an "everyday" look by adding subtle pops of color (in the crease or on the lower lash line, mix lip products to make shades wearable, etc.)

Re: Pan It! - 2021 Challenge πŸ†

@itsfi, so proud of all of your progress!! Great work on all of them! ❀️

Re: Pan It! - 2021 Challenge πŸ†

Awww, thank you so much @FullCoverageBB! ☺️ If you have an item you’re thinking about panning, we’d love to have you join us! β™₯️

Re: Pan It! - 2021 Challenge πŸ†

@itsfi, I definitely will!! I have SO MANY!

Re: Pan It! - 2021 Challenge πŸ†

@itsfi -- whoa, lots o progress! I am with you on the decluttered stuff; if it feels like punishment to use something, and there's no reward, pass it on, it might work for someone else or at least make them feel good using it.

Re: Pan It! - 2021 Challenge πŸ†

Thank you @heavyhedon! πŸ˜€ It took me a while to be comfortable with passing on products that were just 'meh' for me; I felt like I was being wasteful and didn't know about giving away something that I didn't care for. But you and others here on BIC are so right - don't need to feel like we're being punished with having to continue using things that can be given to someone else who might really enjoy it.

Re: Pan It! - 2021 Challenge πŸ†

May was an okay-ish month for panning. Both the Ciate cream blush and the Julep nail treatment had a break from any use. I reached for Tarte Paarty about once per week, in large part because I was using another blush for most of May.  My eyeshadow routine with the ND Biba Palette was pretty simple and typically involved a wash of color using Shine or Monroe atop Tusk. Skincare and hair care, on the other hand, saw more consistent use and as a result, better progress.

My Project Pan Plans for June are to:
  • Keep working on the Tarte and Ciate blushes and revisit whether to keep these two items in my project pan this year, to pause for a month or two, or to declutter one or both products
  • Decide whether to continue working through or declutter the Julep Oxygen Nail Treatment
  • Incorporate the Tar and Sculpture shadows from the Natasha Denona Biba Eye Shadow Palette more frequently into my daily looks
  • Continue working through StriVectin neck cream and The Ordinary hair serum
  • Finish Sephora Collection eye cream - this looks to be the most promising.

Excited to read through (and be motivated by) everyone's panning progress! πŸ˜

Re: Pan It! - 2021 Challenge πŸ†

@itsfi I was looking at the eye cream and was all oh yeah she is totally finishing that! I love seeing your ND progress!

Re: Pan It! - 2021 Challenge πŸ†

@Samtian, I know! 😁 I think dealing with my allergies helped with reaching for the eye cream. My under eye area was just so dry. I'm so happy that I'm using it up; I'm not usually good with using eye cream. Will have to decide which eye cream to replace it with when I'm done. I'm excited to make my way through this ND palette.

Re: Pan It! - 2021 Challenge πŸ†

@itsfi I still don’t know how you did it with the Biba palette. All of my eyeshadows seems bottomless πŸ˜‚πŸ€£πŸŒΉ

Re: Pan It! - 2021 Challenge πŸ†

@blackkitty2014, we can thank the pandemic and stay at home for my progress on Biba. πŸ˜ It took me 5 months of using only that palette every single day. I thought I would be bored of just using that one palette (thinking about it now does make me feel like it would get so tedious and boring), but the monotony and routine of focusing on that one was good for me - both for project pan and for having something else to focus on. πŸ˜‚

Re: Pan It! - 2021 Challenge πŸ†

@itsfi -- oh gosh, I bought that hair serum too and forget to use it! Deeply satisfying to see all the deep pan and dips in that Biba palette. I love the two shades you'll be focusing on.

Re: Pan It! - 2021 Challenge πŸ†

lol @heavyhedon! I did the same thing! The hair serum sat around unopen for at least a month if not two. Ugh. That seems to be a bad habit of mine; one I've really tried to break out of, slowly but surely. Thank you! I love cooler toned neutrals and greys have been something I've been trying to focus on and learn to mix with other shades, so it'll be fun! πŸ˜€

Re: Pan It! - 2021 Challenge πŸ†

@itsfi Love the Strivectin TL neck cream.

Re: Pan It! - 2021 Challenge πŸ†

@SportyGirly125, it's a nice one to have in the rotation.  A few of my former coworkers and you recommended it a year or so ago and I thought I'd give it a try. Between gifts, gratis, and my own purchases, I have a handful of neck creams I've been using off and on. I'm working through this one and a few others at this point so as to not waste anything. We shall see if I end up repurchasing any of the ones I'm using now or going with something else, but that won't be for a while. πŸ˜†

Re: Pan It! - 2021 Challenge πŸ†

Hi everyone!! Here are some products I've been trying to use up this year, and it's taken a lot of restraint to not just throw them out instead

I've been using my Urban Decay Stay Naked foundation almost daily and I'm maybe a week or two from using it all up. I told myself I wouldn't buy a new foundation until I finished, but I caved and got a Cle de Peau one this weekend. Oops.

The rest are pretty easy to hit pan as they're powder products and I can usually layer them, but they are Benefit Hervana, Too Faced Chocolate Soleil, and Hourglass Ambient Lighting palette.

Re: Pan It! - 2021 Challenge πŸ†

@AznAngelLiz Great work!!!

Re: Pan It! - 2021 Challenge πŸ†

@AznAngelLiz πŸ‘ bravo on using up the foundation. My foundation seems bottomless. Normally it takes me 8 months to 1.5 yrs to finish 1. πŸ‘πŸ‘

Re: Pan It! - 2021 Challenge πŸ†

Wow @AznAngelLiz! Very impressive!! πŸ˜ You're so close with the UD foundation - and good for you for having another foundation waiting in the wings with that CdP! πŸ˜

Re: Pan It! - 2021 Challenge πŸ†

@AznAngelLiz -- a few years ago, I was there, too-- had too many foundations and concealers & powders. I made myself go through them and I think it was nearly three years total before I bought a new foundation, powder or concealer. Long, long years😁

Re: Pan It! - 2021 Challenge πŸ†

Pretty stuff! Love that bronzer @AznAngelLiz -- you are just about out of that UD foundation.

Re: Pan It! - 2021 Challenge πŸ†

This is the third time trying to post this. Such a pain!

May update 1:

Goals: to use Peek cream blush  through Spring, then retire it from project; to hit pan on Love Hangover blush by July, then retire it; to double the pan on Ulta shadow then toss; to keep using TF's White chip mini palette while it's good; to use up Kitty Pink blush; to use up Hourglass lippy in Futurist; to use Besame Lipglaze while still usable; to use up Burberry's Nude Radiance; to hit 20 uses on Avon Lipgloss in Lilac; to use every shadow once and hit pan on every blush in the Pixi Ultimate Beauty Kit; to use up a sample of UD's Sin highlighter; to use Guerlain's foundation in Clair till Spring.

I have hit some goals! Hit pan on Love hangover, doubled pan on Ulta shadow, used every shadow in the Pixi kit. Increased pan on the lippies and the other two blushers, hit 20 uses goal too.

So, taking out the two blushers, lippy, foundation and shadow I hit goals on. The Burberry is done as of tomorrow. Also amending the goal for UD's hgihtlighter in Sin; I'll never use it up, so I'm going for pan instead. Still working on the rest, may add a summer refresh update later this month.
