Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!

**11/30/18: The 2019 Challenge Thread is now live:

Pan It! - 2019 Challenge!

Updated 10/13/18: "

It's an all out panning blitz, aka USE IT ALL UP!  Finish up those lingering products, hit as much pan as you can, and declutter those things you simply aren't in to.  As @sparklekai noted, we need a fresh start to 2019.

Updated 8/2/18: Ten by 10/10 Challenge

Spoiler
We're more than half way done with 2018 which means it's time to reinvigorate our motivation to pan.  The rules are simple, pick 10 things that you would like to finish and let us know what they are (photos welcome). Remember this is about you and your collection. Pick what works for you and know that there are no right or wrong choices!

Updated 5/31/18: New Mini Challenge

Spoiler

FOUR by July 4th Challenge:

We're adding a mini challenge to the mix.  Check your stash and pick at least 4 items that you would like to complete by July 4th.  Any product goes and you are more than welcome to pick items in your respective Project Pan.  This is a good chance to finish products that have lingered in your collection and it should provide some motivation to persist with other panning projects.  Let us know which items you aim to finish by July 4th and of course provide photos if possible.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hey Everyone! As promised, here is our 2018 Panning Challenge Thread.  To accommodate a variety of interests, you all are encouraged to pick items to pan that are most suitable to your collections.  For some, this might mean focusing on a particular type of product (like lipstick) and for others this may include a larger variety spanning your entire makeup or skincare routine.
I will be adding information from the 2017 thread over the next few days but to get us started please share the following:
  • Which item(s) you would like to work on
  • How long you will work on said item
  • Goal: explore a new item, revisit an old item, decide whether to keep pass or trash, and/or completely finish item, etc.
  • Starting photo of item
Please use this thread to:
  • share what item(s) you are working on,
  • provide comparative progress photos of your item(s) monthly (at the beginning of the month when possible),
  • ask questions,
  • encourage others,
  • motivate others with the looks you create with your item(s)
Tips and Tricks to Panning/Getting Some Use Out of Your Stash:
Spoiler
  • Take photos!!  When you think you arenโ€™t making a dent in anything look back at those photos, Iโ€™m certain youโ€™ll see some changes ๐Ÿ˜ƒ
  • If you goal is to hit pan or use something up entirely, try concentrating your brush/applicator in the same area each time you use it
  • Multitask your products: eyeshadows as highlighter, lipstick as blush, eyeshadow as brow powder, etc.
  • Layer eyeshadow to create different colors (this is especially helpful to get use out of shades youโ€™re not fond of).
  • Have shadows with a ton of fall out?  Use water
  • Watching the progress of othersโ€™ can be fun but try not compare your progress to theirs.  We all use our makeup differently and have different goals.
  • Donโ€™t restrict yourself to only using the item(s) you are working on.  Itโ€™s more than OK to incorporate other items or take a break!
  • Makeup should be funโ€ฆ.if you begin to dread doing your makeup because you made a committment to use a product that you now hate, TOSS IT!  Do not force yourself to use up something you donโ€™t like.  Move on to something else!  (This includes excluding particilar shades from your goals if focusing on palettes, etc.)
Need some ideas to help you along the way?  Here are a few:
Spoiler
  • Pan a look:  At the beginning of the week pick a look that you can wear everyday Recreate a look worn by a fellow BICer, celebrity, etc.
  • Spice up an โ€œeverydayโ€ look by throwing a different color in your crease or on your lower lash line
  • Roll the dice: pick 2-3 of your most underused shades in your palette and create a look.
Happy Panning!
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
Very pretty ColourPop shades @Samtian !  Thanks for the reminder that I need to test my CT quad!
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
Okay fail. I shared these on IG but haven't posted any palette updates here since October ๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿพโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿพโ€โ™€๏ธ
Here's what happened October through November :
 My thoughts on the palette after using it for the month:
This palette perfectly coincided with the change in weather ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ‚ Some thoughts on the palette: several of the matte shades and at least one shimmer (top left) have some weird texture in the shadow despite never being used wet. I had hoped that with constant use the texture would disappear but no such luck. ๐Ÿ‚๐Ÿ Overall I like this palette but I prefer the formula in the other 15-pan palettes I own ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ‚๐Ÿ
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
@ElleElleG That sunset was perfect for fall transition! Bummer about the formula, colors are great.
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
Amazing!  Good for you for putting the Smokey Obsessions to rest, @ElleElleG!
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
LOL, I'm still trying to get some use out of lingering shades @curlychiquita . I promise to finally put it to rest at the end of the year
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
Wow @ElleElleG! You have really put a dent in your Natasha Denona Sunset Eyeshadow Palette Full Size Sunset Eyeshadow Palette. Great job! Looking at everyones progress is so satisfying ๐Ÿ™‚
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
Thanks @HelenBT !  The dents help me feel like I'm putting my collection to use.....though it can take a while to get them to show ๐Ÿ˜†
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
@ElleElleG is it the original or the new one? My original looked kind of grainy in the pan for some reason but didn't seem to have any issues when applying. I never used it wet either.
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
I didn't know there were different versions of this @makeitup305 !  I picked it up last Fall though.
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
@ElleElleG Yeah when rereleased it this year she tweaked the formula a bit. Iโ€™m impressed at the dents u
you've made!
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
Ah, thanks for sharing that @makeitup305 !  I hate the formula changes, people should be able to exchange for preexisting items that are improved.
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
@ElleElleG I think temptalia ranked them pretty similar so I guess it's fine. Idk ND has been switching formulas left and right I feel like.
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
She does @makeitup305 !!  Which is good if you don't like prior formulas but a pain once she finally seems to get it right, LOL
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
Making good progress on pan blitz!
Finished the lip balm and kendra hair spray top left.
Hit two pan goals, panned bold spirit blush in the lorac POTC palette and gold pink (4th in bottom row) on lorac pro palette. Still hoping to pan hourglass.
On track to finish a lot of the items left at the bottom, about half of them have a few uses remaining.
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
@CC3616 Lorac Cheek products are seriously underrated! I have almost all their blushes and theyโ€™re so good. I need to use my POTC palette more though.
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
Wow, you are on a roll @CC3616!!!
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
I've tried a few different things and I have finally settled on a plan. I will change out my palettes every week, until every single color I own has been used once. From there I will work on the colors that I like/love and come up with a plan for that when it happens. Right now after de-stashing and picking up the KVD Fetish on sale I sit at 496 eye shadow colors. Most are in palettes but I do own a few singles to use as well. This has been a great idea for me, some colors just straight up intimidate me and would never get used at all. This palette I used last week was the KVD Saint and Sinner and I used some browns that were way darker than I am used to, I tried to get a picture but it didn't look good in the picture. Here is the palette before, and the one with x's are the colors I used. This week I am using my Colour Pop Singles. From the KVD palette the I really liked all the colors I used. I forgot, this project is still only being used on work days.
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
That's a great challenge @Samtian, it's so easy to pass over a shade because it seems intimidating  Also, I need to use that Saint & Sinner palette, I don't reach for it enough
Oh I love this! I may do something similar. I've been try...
Oh I love this! I may do something similar. I've been trying to come up with a plan for 2019 but I didn't want to focus on specific palettes for an extended time.
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
@Samtian That's a brilliant idea! I have so many palettes with shades untouched.
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
That's a great idea, @Samtian! It forces you to try something new and it gives attention to some unloved shades ๐Ÿ˜ Keep up the great work, darling!
