Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!

**11/30/18: The 2019 Challenge Thread is now live:

Pan It! - 2019 Challenge!

Updated 10/13/18: "

It's an all out panning blitz, aka USE IT ALL UP!  Finish up those lingering products, hit as much pan as you can, and declutter those things you simply aren't in to.  As @sparklekai noted, we need a fresh start to 2019.

Updated 8/2/18: Ten by 10/10 Challenge

Spoiler
We're more than half way done with 2018 which means it's time to reinvigorate our motivation to pan.  The rules are simple, pick 10 things that you would like to finish and let us know what they are (photos welcome). Remember this is about you and your collection. Pick what works for you and know that there are no right or wrong choices!

Updated 5/31/18: New Mini Challenge

Spoiler

FOUR by July 4th Challenge:

We're adding a mini challenge to the mix.  Check your stash and pick at least 4 items that you would like to complete by July 4th.  Any product goes and you are more than welcome to pick items in your respective Project Pan.  This is a good chance to finish products that have lingered in your collection and it should provide some motivation to persist with other panning projects.  Let us know which items you aim to finish by July 4th and of course provide photos if possible.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hey Everyone! As promised, here is our 2018 Panning Challenge Thread.  To accommodate a variety of interests, you all are encouraged to pick items to pan that are most suitable to your collections.  For some, this might mean focusing on a particular type of product (like lipstick) and for others this may include a larger variety spanning your entire makeup or skincare routine.
I will be adding information from the 2017 thread over the next few days but to get us started please share the following:
  • Which item(s) you would like to work on
  • How long you will work on said item
  • Goal: explore a new item, revisit an old item, decide whether to keep pass or trash, and/or completely finish item, etc.
  • Starting photo of item
Please use this thread to:
  • share what item(s) you are working on,
  • provide comparative progress photos of your item(s) monthly (at the beginning of the month when possible),
  • ask questions,
  • encourage others,
  • motivate others with the looks you create with your item(s)
Tips and Tricks to Panning/Getting Some Use Out of Your Stash:
Spoiler
  • Take photos!!  When you think you aren’t making a dent in anything look back at those photos, I’m certain you’ll see some changes 😃
  • If you goal is to hit pan or use something up entirely, try concentrating your brush/applicator in the same area each time you use it
  • Multitask your products: eyeshadows as highlighter, lipstick as blush, eyeshadow as brow powder, etc.
  • Layer eyeshadow to create different colors (this is especially helpful to get use out of shades you’re not fond of).
  • Have shadows with a ton of fall out?  Use water
  • Watching the progress of others’ can be fun but try not compare your progress to theirs.  We all use our makeup differently and have different goals.
  • Don’t restrict yourself to only using the item(s) you are working on.  It’s more than OK to incorporate other items or take a break!
  • Makeup should be fun….if you begin to dread doing your makeup because you made a committment to use a product that you now hate, TOSS IT!  Do not force yourself to use up something you don’t like.  Move on to something else!  (This includes excluding particilar shades from your goals if focusing on palettes, etc.)
Need some ideas to help you along the way?  Here are a few:
Spoiler
  • Pan a look:  At the beginning of the week pick a look that you can wear everyday Recreate a look worn by a fellow BICer, celebrity, etc.
  • Spice up an “everyday” look by throwing a different color in your crease or on your lower lash line
  • Roll the dice: pick 2-3 of your most underused shades in your palette and create a look.
Happy Panning!
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
Too bad about the quality of some of the shades, but thats really great work panning the ones you wanted @ElleElleG!! Thanks for setting up this challenge, it helped me get through some of the products I was struggling to use up.
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
Thanks @Aaliaa !  I wonder if the quality issues is exclusive to this version of the palette?  I own the Electric Obsessions too but haven't used it enough to tell; it's so colorful though that I doubt I'll ever hit pan LOL.
No problem; seeing how everyone else uses up their products helps me remain motivated 😄
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
Thanks for the fun challenge @ElleElleG
10 by 10/10 Original items:
And results:
10_10final.jpg
I finished 4 products; the hourglass primer (some product waste with the bottle design), milk oil, brow wiz, and night cream. Got SO close on almond pearl (panned shade), it has maybe a day or two left of use. Also close on the Aurelia serum, stila tinted moisturizer. I use the brow gel daily and feel like this one's been opened forever but it's hanging in.
Didn't use much of the hourglass highlight or herbivore spray. I tend to use highlights in cheek palettes rather than individual packages, and historically have used the herbivore spray much more in the winter when it's dry.
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
Great job @CC3616!!
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
Nice work @CC3616!!
The clinging product in the hourglass drives me crazy, I want it ALL 😆😆.  If you like the other products you picked out definitely keep working on them, your end of the year finished/panned items will be insane 😯
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
Nice work on the palette, @CC3616! I thought for sure I would pan at least 2 in my palette but no such luck. Great work!
RE: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
Here’s my results! I didn’t get as far as I wanted to on the powder products since I kept forgetting to buy brush cleaner. On the plus side, that means I got through the cream products faster. Totally finished up the glossier cloud paint and Becca undereye corrector. I’m so so close to finishing the stretch concealer, the bare minerals eye shadow, and the essence brow gel. I also almost finished the it cosmetics cc cream, which was a pleasant surprise. I ended up using the Lancôme lipstick as a cream blush in conjunction with the cloud paint and I thought they worked well together. As for the milk eyeshadow quad, I think I’ll declutter. The formulas are inconsistent and the packaging is falling apart.
Re: RE: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
Great work @Kaylabr
Cream products can be just as difficult to finish as powders so you made a lot of progress in my book!
Re: RE: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
Thank you! I totally agree. I've found a little bit goes a long way for the cream products I've used, so it just takes time to get through. I'm happy to say I've completely finished the concealer and CC cream since then and made a pretty big pan in the Becca highlighter. 😄
Re: RE: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
@Kaylabr I am so impressed that you finished the Cloud Paint! That takes serious dedication.
RE: Re: RE: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
Thank you! It was a year in the making and it felt so great to be done with it. A little really does go a long way!
Re: RE: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
Great job @Kaylabr! How do you like the Glossier cloud paint?
RE: Re: RE: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
Thank you! I really loved it because it was easy to use and throw one. I used the shade dusk and was able to use it for my face, eyes, and lips if I wanted to, though I mostly used it as a blush. I’m curious to try the other colors now for sure!
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
Final tally for the 10 by 10/10!
I had 20 items, and managed to finish or declutter 11 items and make a pretty good dent in others. The Farmacy serum weighed in at 105ml on 9/3, so I’ve managed to use 5ml since then. A full bottle weighs 125ml, so I should only have around 5ml left! I don’t use it everyday, but I feel SO much better using this baby up.
I only managed to pan one shade on my tarte palette, however I found the perfect replacement (Kevin Aucoin Nude Pop) so it’s a win!
What I loved about this challenge is that now I have a better idea of exactly how much product I use of various items, making it easier for me to budget accordingly. Thank you, @ElleElleG, this was a lot of fun!
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
You are a panning machine @eshoe
Awesome job!
BTW that Kevin Aucoin looks far more similar to the Tarte than I would've imagine; thanks for comparing!
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
They look so similar in the pan, @ElleElleG, even in placement. The texture is very different though, some of the KA I had to swatch 3-5 times to get the same intensity as the tarte. However, for a neutral color-averse person like me, that is a-ok😂
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
You are tempting me with those nudepop swatches @eshoe! I almost picked it up with FF but decided to hold off. I also am unsure of the ordinary retinoid. I actually pulled out a DS luna (I used a few FS bottles of luna previously before wanting to try something new) yesterday to use a few days and see if I saw a difference. I don't dislike the ordinary but I'm not sure I'm really getting results.
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
My skin did not improve with it, @CC3616, it was the opposite. I wish I would have stopped using it sooner😭 it’s taken over a year and my skin still isn’t the same, though with consistent masking it’s definitely improved.
I hear you on the palette, they are expensive in general. I really want to pick up the hourglass edit 4 during the sale, but still on the fence. I have tried Luna but the scent is so awful it just sits in my cabinet:/
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
Great job with your 20/10/10 @eshoe! Is the Briogeo product their hair oil? If so do you like it?
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
It is, @Aaliaa, and. It’s great but my hair is thin so I just use it as a mask at night. It has a very nice rose scent. My guess is if you have thicker hair than me, which most people likely do lol, you might like it;)
Re: Pan It! - 2018 Challenge!
Haha, thanks @eshoe! I've grown up with applying oil in my hair as a hair mask but haven't the last few months. You actually inspired me to take out my coconut oil last night.
