Microblading: personal experiences and advice

I'm microblading my brows this month and I was wondering if anyone who's had it done could please share their experience or give me any tips or advice about what's important to know beforehand and for aftercare.

Thanks!

Microblading: personal experiences and advice

@ope590 Thanks for sharing your experience. I have gone back and forth on getting the it.

RE: Microblading: personal experiences and advice

I work in aesthetics. Keep in mind microblading is not permanent and it can actually thin your natural brow. I have had patients complain of hair loss to the treated areas, discoloration on the color used on the brow over time, and it requires touch ups. If you can stay committed to touch ups and trust your provider then go for it!!! 😊

Re: Microblading: personal experiences and advice

Hi @ope590, I’m thinking about microblading my brows too. It’s pricey and I am still looking for the right person to do it. Since you mentioned getting yours done a few months ago, do you have any advice or mind sharing your experience with it? Thanks!!

Re: Microblading: personal experiences and advice

Hi @CakesCakes,

When I got my eyebrows microbladed two years ago, I looked around for a long time to find the perfect person to do mines. The professional who did mines did an amazing job. Since it's been two years now, I don't feel the need to get then retouched although it's recommend. I personally fill my brows in with the ABH Brow Wiz everyday even though it's not needed - I just like a bold brow.

I was honestly very scared at first, but the professional who did mines made me feel calm and comfortable. I had my numbing cream applied for around 45 minutes and honestly did not feel a thing when I got them done! It actually felt soothing in my opinion. The only time I felt a little bit of pain was when I went for my last session touch up. I felt pain around the arch of my brow (I honestly think this happened because the numbing cream got a bit wiped off).

I definitely recommend fully educating yourself before getting them done. It took me around 4 months to gather as much information as possible to fully go through with it. Microblading is semi-permanent and it's not done in one session - you'll need a follow up session after your first one. I personally got microblading done because of previous health issues I've had that resulted in hair loss. I had thick brows, but because of my health, my brows thinned out a lot. Overall, I'm happy I went through with it! 🙂

Best Regards,

❤️ Raquel

Re: Microblading: personal experiences and advice

Thank you @RaquelBT for sharing your experience! I live in a smaller town so it’s harder to find anyone who does it. I’m still researching the procedure and professionals but it feels good to know you did your share of research too! I am also afraid of the pain and the healing process. I’m glad it worked out for you though. And I’m happy to hear it’s lasted you a good 2 years!  It makes me feel better about investing in microblading my eyebrows. ❤️

Re: Microblading: personal experiences and advice

Hi @CakesCakes, I had a good experience with microblading but this is based on my personal expectation of my results and not the procedure itself. Although numbing cream was used, the actual procedure was painful for me; similar to what @mmmiu stated in her earlier post. My technician noticed me wince on the first cut and she paused to ask me if it was bearable. I told her she could continue and she talked me through the procedure, telling me how long I had to go at different points. This was good but I would rather have had a painless experience. The pain was bearable for me (like paper cuts) but everyone's pain tolerance differs. Maybe ask your technician if you could arrive earlier to your appointment so the numbing cream can stay on longer.

My healing process was pretty smooth. I loved the look right after the procedure and I noticed scabs forming on day 2. My tech told me to apply coconut oil and reapply whenever I see my brows drying out. Although I didn't like walking around with shiny brows, I think it helped reduce the itching as I hardly experienced any. They looked much darker during the healing period as the scabs grew. I kept them away from water by pulling my shower cap over my brows in the shower and washing my face with a damp towel instead of splashing with water. On day 10 or so the scabs started to lift and peel so I rubbed them off with a damp cloth. After the scabs came off, I noticed that the once sharp strokes were now more diffused. The overall effect looked as if my brows were filled in, not like I had more individual brow hairs. I did a bit of research on why I got different results than I had seen in others' before and after pictures. I found a few places that claim applying an ointment or oil during healing causes the pigment to spread and that dry healing gives you more defined results. Also, oily skin types get more diffused strokes and microblading in general doesn't last as long on oilier skins. My skin is pretty oily so I figure that explains my results. I also figured that most "after" pictures are taken as soon as the procedure is finished so of course the strokes look defined.

I went back after 5 weeks for a touch up and it was just as painful but at least I was prepared and of course she didn't have to do as many strokes as the first time. She filled in some areas that looked a bit sparse and I was happy with the shape in the end. I decided to not use any oil after the touch up to see if the strokes would heal less diffused. I didn't really see a difference. Overall, I'm happy with my results. Although it looks like I just filled my brows in, they look much fuller than before and I get to wake up with filled in brows everyday. It was worth it just for that. It's been 3 moths since my first appointment and I haven't noticed any fading yet. I would do microblading again when this eventually fades. I would just try to leave the numbing cream on longer or find one that numbs me in a timely manner.  Hope this helps! Pictures below!

Re: Microblading: personal experiences and advice

Wow @ope590!! Thank you so much for sharing your experience and pictures!! I would love it if my eyebrows looked like your “after” brows too! Thanks for mentioning your skin type. I also have oily skin. I would appreciate just having fuller eyebrows in general. I’m afraid of the pain but from what I’ve seen and heard from people, it’s worth it. It’s great that you’re happy with the results.  Thank you again for sharing!!

Re: Microblading: personal experiences and advice

You're welcome, @CakesCakes! It was good for me to reflect on the experience so I'm glad you asked. About the pain, I did a lot of deep breathing to help me through it. And you never know, you might be one of those people who say they were so numbed that they slept through microblading! I hope you have a great experience and even better results!

Re: Microblading: personal experiences and advice

Oh wow @ope590. Your brows look really nice. This is something I would definitely consider but it is so pricey around here. I did a little investigating several months back and the best reviewed places charged $700-800. Not something I can splurge on at the moment

Re: Microblading: personal experiences and advice

@jozkid I've found that it can vary greatly depending on the location. I live in Canada and the place I did mine charged $450. I thought that was pretty expensive but I can't imagine paying $800!

Re: Microblading: personal experiences and advice

I’m near metro Boston in MA @ope590  That explains the price tag 😉

Re: Microblading: personal experiences and advice

I got mine done a month ago and was surprised at how painful it actually was. I'm quite certain the beauty technician didn't leave the numbing cream on long enough. The pain was like when you have a crazy itch on your scalp and you scratched it hard without knowing it was a pimple.

I'm gonna go back for a touch up but probably will be the last time I get it done. The color didn't stay very well and I have the odd line here and there. I asked the technician about it and she said the color will "reappear" after 40 days, which didn't really make sense to me. It also wasn't as dark as I had hoped but I mainly did it so I could have the shape of my brow there to darken it easily without worrying about uneven brows.

As beautiful as the photos were of the "before and after", mine didn't turn out the way I pictured it, I wanted a fuller brow but instead, it looked too thin for my preference.

The aftercare wasn't so bad. I just cleansed around my brows and dabbed it with tissue when it got wet while I showered. My scabs fell off by the end of the week, but i had already started using powder to fill it in a bit. I used cleansing water to remove it. Hope that helps!

Re: Microblading: personal experiences and advice

So sorry you had a less than great experience, @mmmiu. I'll be sure to ask my technician to leave the numbing cream on for longer and be very sure the shape she is making is what i want. It doesn't make sense to me either but I would like to know if the colour actually does "reappear" after 40 days. Thanks for sharing!

Re: Microblading: personal experiences and advice

I had mine done last year, care is easy they told me to apply coconut oil twice a day or as needed. its like getting a tattoo it can get itchy and will flake off it is super important to snot scratch and to keep it moisturised. As for the over all experience it was lovely the woman who did mine was knowledgeable and was able to answer all my questions and it did not hurt. my actual tattoo hurt a lot more!
