Itching for a buy...

It's only been 2 weeks since my last beauty related purchase, and I'm already itching for a buy!!  Anyone else experience "withdrawl" symptoms from trying to stagger their buying?  I'm trying to save my buy for Feb.. but I almost feel like I can't wait!

Re: Itching for a buy...

Oh wow, I used to have a huge library... took a lot of time/$ building it all up, esp the art and philosophy books BUT I have started moving around too much and books are darn HEAVY! So I've now become a real abuser of library systems.

@officegal - TPL staff have to deal with so much worse than someone forgetting to pay a $30 fine 🙂 It's fine and no problem to make a new account. You can now do everything online, it's so easy. I just hope that Rob Ford respects the TPL budget for the reasons mermadelove has mentioned!!!!!

I know, but I actually haven't had to go to a public library in a long time.  I use the UofT campus libraries mostly and go to the Reference Library now and then for special events.  As for Rob Ford, it doesn't seem as if he has respect for any budgets.  I have noticed that TPL has been doing an excellent job in the past few years upgrading everything.

Anyway, going back to the original topic of this thread: today I had to step out to run some errands and bought.... Bump Its.  Yup.

Re: Itching for a buy...

@officegal Oh, well there's no comparison to U of T's collection! Actually, it's kind of embarassing but I have cards for TPL, U of T, the Japan Foundation, The Goethe Institute, The Film Reference Library (now at Bell Lightbox) and CAMH (love my psychology).... I'm sure I'm forgetting some.

Bump its.... what can I say, I absolutely hate teasing my hair! I'd much rather use something like Bump Its.

Re: Itching for a buy...

I bought $25 of false eyelashes......... I did some research and found Ardell Invisibands in all these different styles from daily wear to high drama wear. Since the UD ones are $15 each, it was a steal to get 7 of them for this price!

Re: Itching for a buy...

Yeah, there are quite a lot of decent fake lashes for reasonable prices out there.  They're fun but I just don't have the patience to put them on unless it's for a Halloween costume or something!  I should play with mine more often.  🙂

I thought that they would be a lot harder than they are to put on. I looked at a number of different tutorials on youtube before I tried putting them on, and it was simple enough that I have "everyday" ones that I wear (I bought one pair at the drugstore and I've been wearing them for days) and now I have some glam ones on the way, too. 🙂 It's fun. 🙂

Re: Itching for a buy...

@pocketvenus - Wow, I'm seriously impressed!  What did you study, btw?

@mermadelove - I looked at a lot of those YouTube videos for the over the summer.  Was supposed to put them on for my sister for her wedding and we practiced and practiced for it.  Then come the day of, we're running massively late, she's too low maintenance to care about lashes when her hubby-to-be is waiting at the altar... so we didn't end up using them.  I guess I'm slow in my technique and now can't be bothered with the glue and all that when I can barely be bothered to take off my leggings to wear pants with zippers.  LOL

I thought of this and pulled on regular pants today, LOL.  There are some positive enabling going on here!

Re: Itching for a buy...

@officegal I think it was a little too chilly for leggings today! 🙂 I saw some poor woman in a skirt and heels and all I could think was "ouch!"

I majored in psychology and cinema studies but took courses from many different departments! How about yourself?

Re: Itching for a buy...

@allegrissima - Not funny... I'm LAZY! 😄

I have these thicker leggings that are almost like really tight sweatpants.  I'm too much of a sissy to go out in the cold without insulation!  But I've been wearing them WAY too much!  And I also saw a woman today in a mini skirt and flesh-tone nylons wearing super high heels with an ankle bracelet.  Yup, I judged her.  lol

I started as an English Specialist a long time ago, then left school to work as a legal assistant (don't ask me why, I was young and stupid).  Then I took up my studies again part-time a few years ago and enrolled as a full-time student in September to try to finish the degree in one shot.  I'm limping to the finish line but it helps that I can see the end now.  🙂

So much in common!

I have a BA in English ( creative writing) and Psychology, as well!

And then because I'm such a nerd and I was tired of saying "Would you like fries with that?" when I wasn't doing intuitive counseling, I went back to school a few years ago and became a nurse!

Re: Itching for a buy...

Yay Psychology!  I've loved Psych since I was teenager.  I was even in Honors Psych in high school and I was nowhere near a preppy student!  After high school I went to college for 1 semester and dropped out because I was sick of school and just didn't want to go anymore.  So stupid.  Going back to school 10 years and four children later is sooo much harder.  I did finish a 2-year degree in Criminal Justice a couple years ago, and as soon as my husband finishes his Master's I'm going back to get my Bachelors in Psychology.

Re: Itching for a buy...

@mermade - I was wondering how you went from English to nursing!  Yeah, life is full of twists and turns, isn't it? 🙂

@kalex - I find it difficult attending school now as a working 30-something.  I have no idea how people who are married with kids do it!!  Seriously, that's amazing and I wish you the best of luck!  😄

Re: Itching for a buy...

@officegal: My mmom is a nurse and I was always interested in nursing. I started our college pre-med because when I told my mom I wanted to go into nursing she said "If you want to be a nurse, be a doctor......"

Immigrant mothers!!!!!

I think they are all the same: tiny and bossy-- just all with a different accent when ( if) they speak English!

LOL!!!  Do we have the same mother?!?  Tiny and bossy is exactly it.  I was told, "Why be the assistant when you can be the lawyer?????"  The only time she shut up about it was when my wage kept her afloat while she wasn't working.  Mothers!

LOL!!!! MY husband's parents are from CUba and when I met her I told him that we have the same mother in different languages!

I think all immigrant mothers are the same!!!! I think they have to be three times as tough as they are tiny to get by as imigrants. Also, nothing but the TOP is good enough for their children-- regardless of what those kids want!  Doctor, Laywer, or Engineer. Those were the appropriate options in my house. Nursing was an acceptable "practical" alternative. 🙂

Re: Itching for a buy...

@mermadelove LOL, yes, I do think immigrant parents generally have higher expectations! In my house, it was MD or bust. And yes, they have to be extra tough and resourceful. I sometimes feel a bit "soft" when I think of how difficult my grandparents' lives were (escaping the Japanese imperial army, then the Chinese revolution). It makes one realize how unpredictable life is and how easily people can lose everything they've worked for - and also how lucky I am to live in a peaceful country!

@officegal - You can do it! 🙂 I also went back later to finish my degree. But it was worth working and not accruing a massive student debt. It's strange what a difference a few years can make. I think when you return to academic studies with more practical life/work experience, you bring a very different, valuable perspective. I'm now considering doing another minor... So tempting as it's covered by work but it might be too much as I'm already involved in a lot of volunteer work.... we'll see.

@kalex - Good luck with that! Your experience and time management skills will definitely serve you well in your studies.

Thanks, babe!  It's true, we come back with a different perspective.  But I look around at these young'ins and they're so smart!  I can't help but think, 'Why wasn't I like that at that age?'  But the important thing is that I'm doing it now and enjoying it very much.  🙂  What would do your minor in?

Re: the doctor thing - same here.  I was obviously arts-inclined from an early age so they pushed teacher/professorship at me.  My youngest sister was actually writing the MCATS to go to med school when in the middle of it she decided to go to seminary instead, DEVASTATING my parents in the process.  It took them a long time to accept it but we're all good now.  😉

Re: Itching for a buy...

@officegal lol, undergrads do look like kids to me!  I would like to take some classes in cognitive science.

I knew early on being a dr wasn't for me but watching my sister go through the MCATs and med school really made me sure. There was a lot of crying going down. And very mean people to deal with!!

They look like kids because they are kids.  😉

Cognitive science sounds very cool.

I think of the dozen or so friends who were aiming for med school, only one guy made it, and just this year at that.  Seriously, he and your sister deserve medals, lol.
