How do you get a smooth finish on your makeup???

I have tried and tried to get my makeup to look smooth when I put it on. I've tried primers, liquid foundation, powder foundation with and without primer with and without setting spray... I've tried brushes, finger, sponges, blenders... it NEVER comes out smooth. It always makes my imperfection a million times WORSE! Help? Please? I love makeup...

moisturized skin is a big part of what helps make your makeup turn out more smooth. my routine is i use an exfoliating face wash and put on a face moisturizer(philosophy renewed hope in a jar) about 20 minutes before applying my makeup, then I use my primer and foundation and set it with a translucent powder (I use RCMA powder) at the end of the night I remove my makeup with a coconut water based face wash/makeup remover by Pacifica and then use a makeup wipe to get the rest off that the wash may have missed. after cleaning off all the makeup I spray my face with the urban decay B6 vitamin spray and apply moisturizer once again before bed. I also use a sheet face mask twice a week.

Exfoliating is key! Philosophy's micro delivery peel is worth it!!! That is more like a once a week peel. I use more genital scrubs in the morning as well! Another idea is dermaplaning your face. It's basically shaving😜 not sure if Sephora sells Tinker Razors but it removes dry skin and annoying peach fuzz!
