Beauty Pet Peeves 2

The other thread was getting too long and difficult to load!

So what are your beauty pet peeves? What grinds your gears? Share your stories!!!

Re: Beauty Pet Peeves 2

Wish that you had a photo of that dryer @greeneyedgirl107. The only dryer that I remember from back then was a smaller dryer that had removable comb and brush attachments. It took me at least an hour to dry my hair completely.

Re: Beauty Pet Peeves 2

@Loretta55 I couldn't post a pic of the ones I wanted as they were WEMB (there are Etsy listings) but here's one that looks like what my mom described.  There seem to be other styles, too.

This one looks similar to the hatchet dryer from the 70s that we started with in the 90s

I use this hatchet dryer now:

I've always been terrible at blow drying my hair b/c it's so thick and wavy.  The hatchet dryer is just so much easier for me.  I've been using them since middle school.  I really wish they came with better brush attachments for sleeker, gentler use.  I've looked into some of the newer brush attachments from, for example, T3, but the bristles are never solid enough to provide enough tension.  It's such a shame.  If they're going to make attachments, give us some variety in the bristles!  ETA: Annnnd, the the wattage is usually too low for drying on most of these attachment type tools.  I guess they're marketed as hot air brushes instead of blow dryers, but still -- I'd like to see 1875 watts.

I've gone through dozens of hatchet dryers, as did my mom and sister.  I now keep back ups on hand for when one dies.  My sister's friend was over once and saw my dryer.  She couldn't believe that all three of us used the same type.  I even got asked by TSA the last time I flew what my hatchet dryer was.

Re: Beauty Pet Peeves 2

I had a Remington hatchet style dryer that I used for many years @greeneyedgirl107. I also have very thick wavy hair that I gave up straightening due to arthritis in my hands. I learned how to roughly blow dry my hair straight but I couldn’t get the hang of using a large round brush. I became good at using a flat iron but I fried my hair twice flat ironing it.

Re: Beauty Pet Peeves 2

@Loretta55 Whenever I look at brushes, I'm never satisfied with the round or paddle brushes.

Ouch for frying your hair twice!  That's one problem I've never had - and I've had a bunch over the years.

Re: Beauty Pet Peeves 2

@Loretta55 I'll post a pic when I have a little more time. I did a quick search and the one that looks most similar to what she described came up when I searched 1970s Ronson hair dryer.

I'll also post a pic of the 70s hatchet dryer that looks close to the one she I actually saw and used that one.

Dry times...ugh!

Re: Beauty Pet Peeves 2

@Loretta55 @Oh no!!! So many things look good in theory and then in real life it’s meh. I remember seeing someone try that out too. I hope your scalp feels better ! It’s such a hard area to treat!

Re: Beauty Pet Peeves 2

My scalp doesn’t hurt as much today @Kim888. At least I am not out too much money.

Re: Beauty Pet Peeves 2

A few of the worst:

Getting totally crumbled powder products delivered

Sneezing right after I put on a coat of mascara and getting it all over my eyelids

Not being able to see how much is left in a skincare product

Samples that are so tiny it's impossible to actually see if they are good

Colors showing up completely different online vs in person

Re: Beauty Pet Peeves 2

These are all so accurate and annoying (or worse) when they happen @Finendandelion sneezing and make up application does not mix

Re: Beauty Pet Peeves 2

@CynthieLu Seriously! It takes so long to fix it when that happens!

Re: Beauty Pet Peeves 2

@Finendandelion  I so agree with you.  I have had one too many powder products, mostly eyeshadow palettes arriving crumbled.  I agree with @Loretta55 .  These need to help packed better.

Re: Beauty Pet Peeves 2

@Cissy63So true!!😫

Re: Beauty Pet Peeves 2

@Finendandelion Oh the sneezing mascara marks are awful!!! Especially if you are someone who applies foundation first 🙄 I feel your pain.

Re: Beauty Pet Peeves 2

@eshoeOh so true- applying foundation first makes it sooo much worse! And always seems to happen on days I am feeling good about my makeup and putting on the finishing touches lol

Re: Beauty Pet Peeves 2

I think a few of the pet peeves are so humbling, aren’t they, @Finendandelion 😂

Re: Beauty Pet Peeves 2

@eshoeYes they really are! lol 🙂

Re: Beauty Pet Peeves 2

I am going to discuss each pet peeve @Finendandelion.

I wish that companies would pack products better so we will not find crumbled products.

Sneezing and getting mascara all over my eyelids has not happened to me but I can understand your frustration.

I discussed about not seeing how much product is left in a container. In my case my ONE/SIZE by Patrick Starrr Secure the Blur Makeup Magnet Primer 1.18 oz/ 35 mL ran out the day after the rouge sale. I got stuck paying full price for a restock. Try opening your moisturizer because I did that with my Murad container and found that I still had at least a month’s worth of product even though the pump wasn’t working.

I agree about the samples. I have a lot of thick wavy hair so I need a minimum of a deluxe sized product to be able to tell if it will work for me. For my skin I need at least a weeks supply to see if my skin tolerates it.

Always see if someone on BIC has posted a swatch of a product that you are interested in seeing. Another website to check out is Temptalia. Christine does an awesome job of posting realistic swatches.

Re: Beauty Pet Peeves 2

@Loretta55- so true about packing! That's so annoying about the ONE/SIZE by Patrick Starrr Secure the Blur Makeup Magnet Primer 1.18 oz/ 35 mL

running out right after the Rouge sale- hate it when that happens! I try to cut or open as many products as I can so as not to waste but some *coughInkyListcough* products are hard to do that without a small hacksaw sometime🤣 Great tips about checking out accurate swatches!! Thanks so much! 🙂

Re: Beauty Pet Peeves 2

When I try to get more moisturize out of my Skinfix Triple Lipid-peptide cream, open it, then find it out it's empty BUT I literally bought it 2 weeks ago 🥹😭

I always get the 1.7 Oz but sure feels like I finish it so quickly comparing to any other cream/ moisturizer

Re: Beauty Pet Peeves 2

@ZaraConnor they're selling a kit with a refill if that's helpful ? Skinfix Your Barrier Protectors Kit

Re: Beauty Pet Peeves 2

Thank you very much for sharing this! I sure needed this @makeitup305
