Re: Beauty Pet Peeves 2

@heartsmyface  Very true. That’s how I try to rationalize her silent treatment—“just ignore it for now, you know she’s throwing another of her grudge tantrums, it’s not your fault”—so I don’t fall into the fun anxiety spiral of believing I did something terrible to her. She and I are both pushing 50. Each time she does this, I want to cut her out of my life. This might be the time I finally do it. Especially since she’s always refused to see a therapist or psychologist, no matter how many of our mutual friends or her relatives tell her she seems to have most of the classic markers for NPD—and anyone who’s dealt with a true narcissist knows how frustrating and exhausting that relationship can be. As much as I want to keep trying to help her, I know she’s taking advantage of my personality and I need to end that.

As for other folks who exhibit the “you said I was wrong, therefore I’ll never speak to you again” bs: maybe if they realize they’re kinda behaving like a narcissist, they’ll stop. 😄

Re: Beauty Pet Peeves 2

@WinglessOne   As long as you recognize it for what it is  it’s much easier to deal with and stay sane.

I didn’t want to bring up NPD but it was running though my mind as a suspicion while reading your post.   I mean, everyone is capable of exerting narcissistic traits at times and that’s fine and perfectly natural but if it’s a general pattern of disruptive behaviour then maybe cutting them out is something to consider.

My general rule of thumb these days is that if I don’t feel good or better about myself after hanging out or talking with someone then something is off.

RE: Beauty Pet Peeves 2

im non-binary and I dont mind people calling me a he (even if I prefer she/her/their) but daamnnnnn, I hate my facial hair so much. I’d kill to have a flawless hairless face 😭 i hate it even more bec I have to shave it and then color correct all the spots where the hair grew before I put on my makeup 😢 nothing wrong with it, but ugh im just really frustrated at my facial hair.

RE: Beauty Pet Peeves 2

I’m so sorry, that must suck. They’re a bit pricey, but have you looked into at-home permanent hair removal? It is IPL, which everyone calls lasers. I’ll let you look into the research if you’re interested, just saw your post and thought the idea wouldn’t hurt. If you’re curious I can talk more about the pros and cons.

Re: RE: Beauty Pet Peeves 2

@andreadaqueen   Awwww, sorry your facial hair is so bothersome to you,   I know there are laser treatments you can have done to thin out and even halt hair growth.  I think you need anywhere from between 6-10 sessions at $200 a pop to eliminate the hair completely but that may be something you want to invest in if it’s really affecting you.

I used to bleach my peach fuzz once a month to minimize its appearance before finally starting to dermaplane it off.  That may be a temporary option.

Waxing would probably be pretty painful but would be quick if done professionally.  I feel like you’d probably be pretty red for a day or two. Using a face oil regularly would decrease your risk of ingrown hairs.

Re: Beauty Pet Peeves 2

Constant puffy eyes. I feel like I have "good eye days" and "bad eye days," and bad ones are ones where my eyes look so puffy that they appear even more hooded than usual and eye makeup is a strugglebus.

Skin that appears to be getting drier and drier as I get older. Everything cracks, there is no saving it.

@blueviolet21, My bags under my eyes are my pet peeve also. Rest makesso much difference for me and I'm religious about my eye cream. Here's 2 pics showing how different my bags can look. First pic I needed sleep, 2nd pic is with lots of rest 🙂

@naturalooks15, I know. You wouldn't think it would be that noticeable, but when I'm tired, the eye bags come out. I looked back in my calendar and the middle of May was my last set of uninterrupted days off, since then I've worked at least 12 hours and sometimes 24 hours of overtime. I get a little worn down, but then the nice overtime paycheck shows up and I start all over again, I do it to myself. So my overtime goes to beauty and travel.

That's a big difference @Luvstravel . You look very beautiful in both pics and if you hadn't pointed out, I probably would not have noticed it.

@Luvstravel ,

That's a big difference!  It's wonderful that you can look so well rested!

Re: Beauty Pet Peeves 2

Veeeerryyy onion when sephora lists a product "online only", but then when you pop into the store they have some in stock... come on now - NOT COOL!

RE: Beauty Pet Peeves 2

not really sure if u consider this as a Beauty pet peeve but, I live in a real humid place (Philippines) and Y’all know in The Ph, it’s summer all year long. it gets rainy here and there and the last thing we can get for a cold weather is if it is in November - First or 2nd week ofJan. whenever I do a full face of Makeup, it just slides off parts of my face OR it cakes up my face 😕 Idk if its just my application of the makeup or what Im using (I have 2 foundations, one high-end and onedrugstore; Fenty and Maybelline Fit me)

Re: RE: Beauty Pet Peeves 2

@andreadaqueen It is super hot and humid where I live 10 months a year!  The 2 things that help me the most, regardless of the type of foundation, are:

1. NARS Pore & Shine Primer:  I haven’t seen this at Sephora in a while, but it is so good for mattifying and hiding your pores.

2. Urban Decay De-Slick Setting Spray:  This helps my makeup last much longer than any other setting spray I’ve tried!

RE: Re: RE: Beauty Pet Peeves 2

better than the all-nighter setting spray? 😨 gonna have to check out this De-slick one and the NARS primer. thank you so much!

Re: RE: Beauty Pet Peeves 2

@andreadaqueen   A side pet peeve is when you buy a foundation somewhere humid and it works amazingly on your dry skin and then you take it home and it isn’t actually good for your skin type anymore and only worked because of the high humidity where you were.

NY used just get unbearably hot in August. But, I would just stay inside on those days in my job AC 🤣. Now we have these random humid Florida days. I usually give up and switch to powder foundation around this time. Or tinted moisturizer, if I dare, but I couldn't imagine this year round. I feel for you.

😭 the struggle is real, sis! although, since you’ve mentioned it, can you suggest what powder foundation and tinted moisturizer is good?

Re: RE: NY used just get unbearably hot in August. But, I would j...

@andreadaqueen

I am really liking Kat Von D's Lock-it powder foundation.  I apply with a tapered brush versus the sponge, and it's a pretty nice finish.  Prior to that, I also really liked using Cover Fx's pressed powder foundation with their old school mattifying primer.  For some reason, that combo does well for me.  They have a new one which I've tagged, but I still have the old one (and a back up) that I use.

FYI: I'm combo skin, oiliest from the bottom (chin) and dry at the top (forehead).

Tinted moisturizer wise, I've tested out Laura Mercier's, which is good, but only in store.  I also tested out Bare Minerals CR and own it.  CR+ SEPHORA COLLECTION PRO Domed Foundation #78was my go-to last summer.

KVD Beauty Lock-It Powder Foundation 180 Tan Deep

COVER FX - Pressed Mineral Foundation

COVER FX - Mattifying Primer With Anti-Acne Treatment

LAURA MERCIER - Tinted Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 20 - Oil Free

bareMinerals COMPLEXION RESCUE® Tinted Moisturizer with Hyaluronic Acid and Mineral SPF 30 Cashew 3.5

Re: RE: Beauty Pet Peeves 2

Girl YES - humidity is my beauty kryptonite. I have curly hair and it sucks that my appearance can change so drastically with the weather!

RE: Re: RE: Beauty Pet Peeves 2

RIGHT?? like im actually astounded that ppl love summer and im like.... cant relate?? cuz I wanna wear coats and jackets and actually have makeup stay on my face and not slip off my face during the day 😭 but we can’t have it all, can we? 😩😅
