@heartsmyface Very true. That’s how I try to rationalize her silent treatment—“just ignore it for now, you know she’s throwing another of her grudge tantrums, it’s not your fault”—so I don’t fall into the fun anxiety spiral of believing I did something terrible to her. She and I are both pushing 50. Each time she does this, I want to cut her out of my life. This might be the time I finally do it. Especially since she’s always refused to see a therapist or psychologist, no matter how many of our mutual friends or her relatives tell her she seems to have most of the classic markers for NPD—and anyone who’s dealt with a true narcissist knows how frustrating and exhausting that relationship can be. As much as I want to keep trying to help her, I know she’s taking advantage of my personality and I need to end that.
As for other folks who exhibit the “you said I was wrong, therefore I’ll never speak to you again” bs: maybe if they realize they’re kinda behaving like a narcissist, they’ll stop. 😄
@WinglessOne As long as you recognize it for what it is it’s much easier to deal with and stay sane.
I didn’t want to bring up NPD but it was running though my mind as a suspicion while reading your post. I mean, everyone is capable of exerting narcissistic traits at times and that’s fine and perfectly natural but if it’s a general pattern of disruptive behaviour then maybe cutting them out is something to consider.
My general rule of thumb these days is that if I don’t feel good or better about myself after hanging out or talking with someone then something is off.
@andreadaqueen Awwww, sorry your facial hair is so bothersome to you, I know there are laser treatments you can have done to thin out and even halt hair growth. I think you need anywhere from between 6-10 sessions at $200 a pop to eliminate the hair completely but that may be something you want to invest in if it’s really affecting you.
I used to bleach my peach fuzz once a month to minimize its appearance before finally starting to dermaplane it off. That may be a temporary option.
Waxing would probably be pretty painful but would be quick if done professionally. I feel like you’d probably be pretty red for a day or two. Using a face oil regularly would decrease your risk of ingrown hairs.
Constant puffy eyes. I feel like I have "good eye days" and "bad eye days," and bad ones are ones where my eyes look so puffy that they appear even more hooded than usual and eye makeup is a strugglebus.
Skin that appears to be getting drier and drier as I get older. Everything cracks, there is no saving it.
That's a big difference @Luvstravel . You look very beautiful in both pics and if you hadn't pointed out, I probably would not have noticed it.
That's a big difference! It's wonderful that you can look so well rested!
Veeeerryyy onion when sephora lists a product "online only", but then when you pop into the store they have some in stock... come on now - NOT COOL!
@andreadaqueen It is super hot and humid where I live 10 months a year! The 2 things that help me the most, regardless of the type of foundation, are:
1. NARS Pore & Shine Primer: I haven’t seen this at Sephora in a while, but it is so good for mattifying and hiding your pores.
2. Urban Decay De-Slick Setting Spray: This helps my makeup last much longer than any other setting spray I’ve tried!
@andreadaqueen A side pet peeve is when you buy a foundation somewhere humid and it works amazingly on your dry skin and then you take it home and it isn’t actually good for your skin type anymore and only worked because of the high humidity where you were.
I am really liking Kat Von D's Lock-it powder foundation. I apply with a tapered brush versus the sponge, and it's a pretty nice finish. Prior to that, I also really liked using Cover Fx's pressed powder foundation with their old school mattifying primer. For some reason, that combo does well for me. They have a new one which I've tagged, but I still have the old one (and a back up) that I use.
FYI: I'm combo skin, oiliest from the bottom (chin) and dry at the top (forehead).
Tinted moisturizer wise, I've tested out Laura Mercier's, which is good, but only in store. I also tested out Bare Minerals CR and own it. CR+ SEPHORA COLLECTION PRO Domed Foundation #78was my go-to last summer.
KVD Beauty Lock-It Powder Foundation 180 Tan Deep
COVER FX - Pressed Mineral Foundation
COVER FX - Mattifying Primer With Anti-Acne Treatment
LAURA MERCIER - Tinted Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 20 - Oil Free
thank you so much! a life-saver! and yes, im also oily-combi skin (t-zone area and chin)
Girl YES - humidity is my beauty kryptonite. I have curly hair and it sucks that my appearance can change so drastically with the weather!
