Thanks kemoca!

Re: Animal Testing, Gluten & Vegan Info

I would also like to know about Bite Beauty.  I love their products.

Re: Animal Testing, Gluten & Vegan Info

Can we please refrain from posting photos of animals? I know how they are treated/seen pictures and I don't want those images in my head.

Re: Animal Testing, Gluten & Vegan Info

Sry Ginger,..I know.  It hurts my inner soul to think of these animals.  And to add insult to injury, there are people who have no compassion nor information regarding alternative testing,...who blatantly say,.."I have no problem with animal testing".

We don't like the pictures, but the animals live that image 24/7.

FYI, France has labs of human skin growth cultures for testing and China is proposing to end its requirement for animal testing, hopefully later year, due to the unreliable outcome on animal testing and it's failure rate when crossing over to human subjects.

Re: Animal Testing, Gluten & Vegan Info

Keep your quotes in context please. I said I have no problem at the moment, and I gave reasonable arguments to support that view. Do you have any information about whether the skin growth labs are viable for worldwide use in the volumes they would be needed? Because from what I've read (not specific articles but the general discussions) those sorts of methods aren't practical for wider use right now.

Re: Animal Testing, Gluten & Vegan Info

Here's the bottom line for me.

You have a voice and a choice.

The animals (bunny, dog, cat, monkey) have no voice and no choice, is forced on them.  To live their existence, in a cage without companionship, isolated, drugged, scarred, burned, acid in their eyes without pain relief, poisons forced fed to them.  Then disposed of like yesterday's newspaper.

Re: Animal Testing, Gluten & Vegan Info

And you still haven't managed to answer any of my questions. I'm seeking further information and you're apparently not interested in providing it. I have stated already I will happily join your side if you can satisfy my requests for proof. If it's that obvious and clear-cut that should be easy.

Re: Animal Testing, Gluten & Vegan Info

ICCVAM (pronounced "ICK-VAM") is an acronym that refers to the Interagency Coordinating Committee on the Validation of Alternative Methods. ICCVAM is made up of representatives from 15 Federal agencies that generate or use toxicological data to carry out their responsibilities to protect and advance the health and safety of people, animals, and the environment.

ICCVAM's mission is to promote the development, validation, and regulatory acceptance of new, revised, and alternative regulatory safety testing methods. Emphasis is on alternative methods that will reduce, refine (less pain and distress), and replace the use of animals in testing while maintaining and promoting scientific quality and the protection of human health, animal health, and the environment.

Additionally, a simple google search "alternatives to animal testing" will provide you with sufficient evidence for any argument.

Re: Animal Testing, Gluten & Vegan Info

Sure, Google will tell me, but I'd rather have a conversation with a human being than a computer. I find actually talking to people means I get to hear what evidence that person believes is important to their case. I'm starting to think that's a stupid idea, to be honest, because you're still just spouting generalised information with no specifics on percentages, efficacy or actual milestones in all this research.

Re: Animal Testing, Gluten & Vegan Info

I understand! It is nice you are so passionate about the issue.

Re: Animal Testing, Gluten & Vegan Info

Can you send me in the direction of scientific proof that other testing methods are available and viable on a large scale? And I'm curious-- do you believe animal testing is necessary in some areas just not cosmetics, or unnecessary across the board? What about chemical development, where it's a requirement on the safety sheets to list the LD50, or the lethal dose to kill 50% of a test population, usually of rats, rabbits, etc.? The LD50 is very useful, and has in fact been used by a lot of people to justify why using some ingredients isn't as bad as people make out (eg. the Big 3 in nail polish).

Re: Animal Testing, Gluten & Vegan Info

I have no problem with animal testing at the moment. Until we have an alternative that is superior or equal in costs, efficacy and viability on the huge scale it needs to be used, I accept that a lot of products need to be tested for safety reasons before they're commercially available. Yes, a lot of testing methods could be carried out more humanely, and I'm certainly not a fan of vivisection and the like, but realistically, our alternative is that people buy untested products and then sue when something goes wrong. If someone can show me evidence of an alternative testing method that fulfills all the criteria I've listed, I will gladly join your campaign against the evil corporations. Until then, stop fear-mongering and pressuring people. I'm not going to give up products I know work for my temperamental skin and difficult skin tone just because you yelled at me on the internet.

P.S. If you're so horrified that you're never going to step foot in a Sephora again, perhaps a more constructive approach would be to contact them (Sephora or the brands) directly rather than ranting on a message board.

Re: Animal Testing, Gluten & Vegan Info

If you have tempermental skin, you should know that organic skin care lines have much higher quality ingredients than any big name department store brands.  Organic skin care lines like Miessence do not test on animals, and neither do other, more ethical, more compassionate lines that are not necessarily all organic but do tend to use higher quality, more natural, and healthier ingredients like Dr. Hauschka, Jane Iredale, Dr. Brandt, even more commercialized brands like Tarte and Too Faced don't test on animals, because animal testing is completely unnecessary, not to mention evil or barbaric!  If you're so worried about your skin, you should really consider looking into purchasing from brands that use higher quality, natural ingredients than these mass marketed. produced, commercialized brands filled with toxic ingredients!

I can guarentee you that any company that kills, blinds, skins alive an innocent animal in a cage doesn't care one bit about you or your welfare, that's why most of these brands already have ingredients that can harm your reproductive system and cause cancer.  Just google "health hazards of beauty products" or "dangers of cosmetics" to see that what they are doing to animals isn't THAT far away from what their products are doing to you!  It's just a slower kill with humans.

Bottom line:  How in the world could you trust the safety of a product that is made by a company that tortures animals??  Do you really think a company like that cares about you and uses safe ingredients?  Think about it.

Re: Animal Testing, Gluten & Vegan Info

Funny you should say that. Many of the ingredients I know my skin dislikes are plant extracts and oils such as those used in organic skincare lines. I can't tolerate a lot of the fragrant oils they use. And to be honest, as long as the product works, I don't care if the company cares about me or not. As far as the so-called dangers of skincare and cosmetics, there is no reason to believe most of the hype. The vast majority of ingredient that are exemplified as dangerous are only damaging in quantities FAR beyond what we are exposed to in cosmetic use. Read some of the articles on The Beauty Brains , Brightest Bulb In The Box or Lab Muffin for more information on that.

Re: Animal Testing, Gluten & Vegan Info

Daeidre, there are alternatives to animal testing, and 90% of the test that pass the animal test phase, fail human trials.  In the cosmetic industry, there is no need for animal testing.

Beauty does not have to be painful.

I would encourage you to watch a few undercover video of cosmetic lab,... And then say,..."oh yea I love that mascara, put some more in the bunnies eyes.  I don't care that they are in pain and agony, I want my mascara"

Is anyone's vanity worth the agony that these creatures endure?

Re: Animal Testing, Gluten & Vegan Info

Cosmetics and other household products are tested on DOGS now. If you watch the video on this link you will learn about this horrific, horrific practice.
An estimated 70,000 dogs are being tested on in labs. The beagles in this article had their vocal cords cut in a laboratory. So evil I'm about to cry!

Google "beagles washington post vocal cords cut" and it will come up.

Never again will I step foot in Sephora.

Re: Animal Testing, Gluten & Vegan Info

Chanel and Sephora brand sell in China.  If a brand sells in China, that means they test on animals.  It's the law in China.  Every time I post a link, my post gets deleted.  Smashbox and Juicy also test!  Please research these brands and you will see that this list is FALSE!

Re: Animal Testing, Gluten & Vegan Info

It a general rule for this forum that no outside links can be posted. It has nothing to do with you personally.

Re: Animal Testing, Gluten & Vegan Info

Ok - thanks

Re: Animal Testing, Gluten & Vegan Info

Wait does ysl, guerlain, MJ test on animals?

Re: Animal Testing, Gluten & Vegan Info

Paula's Choice includes YSL and Guerlain on the 'brands that test on animals' list. Marc Jacobs isn't on the test or don't test lists - possibly because the makeup is so new?
