Hello, hello! Welcome to Year 6 of the No/Low Buy Thread.

*Many thanks to all who have participated over the last few years.  While I don't

post often I do read the notifications sent to my email and I cannot say it enough,

You all are truly amazing!  Thank you for your dedication and support!!

For reference here's the purpose of this thread (from Thread Originator, @lnum😞

This thread is a support system for all of us who are trying to maintain a budget and keep our beauty spending limited. Post here when you have a weak moment, post here to hold yourself accountable, post here when you just need someone to talk to, post here when you have advice for all of us, and post here when you make mistakes but also make gains! Many of us post here to keep track of our monthly purchases. Anything you need to say, we are all here for each other. There's no judgement here.

Feel free to share your goals, items that tempt you, missteps (we don't believe in failures), and any successes.  Above all else, encourage and support one another.

A note from lnum (2016):

Welcome to Year 3!

My motto for this thread is that I strongly believe, even on a budget, you can have the things you want that make you happy without feeling like you're limiting yourself.

I am so excited to spend another year with you all. If it wasn't for the first two years of this thread, I would never have been able to cut down my beauty spending. My goal for this year is to maintain low spending on beauty, and cut down my clothing purchases. I will be funneling that money into traveling, which is what I have done in the past and it's a great goal that truly motivates me.

I'm still so proud of everyone for making it through 2015 and 2016, limiting ourselves in the beauty product area in order to improve our lives in other areas. We all did great and here's to another year of learning and saving!

Challenges to Help You Use Your Stash:

Re: 2020 - THE NO-BUY, LOW-BUY, BUDGET-BUY ACCOUNTABILITY AND SUPPORT THREAD

I think I'm going to attempt low buy this year.  I feel like last year I made it through January and like anything else, when you're not 100% just let it slide.  I was definitely more mindful of purchases, and not just getting things to have them or falling for GWPs like I did in 2018, but there is room for improvement.  I feel overwhelmed with stuff in general, so I need to do something.

I really love hauls though, so this is gonna be a challenge 😄

I figured I'll do a monthly spend/budget and leave exceptions for:

-stocking up consistently used items (skincare, brow pencils, eyeliner)

-birthday

Re: 2020 - THE NO-BUY, LOW-BUY, BUDGET-BUY ACCOUNTABILITY AND SUPPORT THREAD

You can do it @danielledanielle !

Let the feeling of being overwhelmed motivate you to explore your collection.  Also, IMO, many of the newer releases are items we’ve seen in some capacity before.  If something new captures your interest, try finding it in your collection then decide if it’s still needed.

Re: 2020 - THE NO-BUY, LOW-BUY, BUDGET-BUY ACCOUNTABILITY AND SUPPORT THREAD

Ty @ElleElleG , And, you're very right.  It's pretty hard to get something that's entirely new.  I'm learning that lesson as I have amassed certain shadow shades and lip colors and when swatching them, can barely detect a difference.

Re: 2020 - THE NO-BUY, LOW-BUY, BUDGET-BUY ACCOUNTABILITY AND SUPPORT THREAD

Joining in. I did pretty well in 2019 (Barely made rouge last week) compared to 2018 (rouged multiple times over).

my goals in 2020 are -

1. Shop my own stash (use up skincare, DS, make-up I bought end of 2018).

2. Use make-up Morse often (only What I have). Make-up is especially challenging for me as I feel I am not skilled plus I almost always don’t have time. So start budgeting time for makeup when going out.

3. don’t buy back ups of skincare just because they are good deals.

4. Budget well for tools - I might be buying tools this year but want to research ahead of time and plan well (I got Clarisonic 2 years ago and have used it twice 🤭)

Nice goals @naturalooks15 !  Practice makes perfect, regarding goal 2, soon enough you’ll find what make up/look you gravitate toward most.

Re: 2020 - THE NO-BUY, LOW-BUY, BUDGET-BUY ACCOUNTABILITY AND SUPPORT THREAD

Love your goals, @naturalooks15, especially as I really need to work on your #1 (shop your stash) and #3 (stop buying skincare backups because of good deals). Here’s to our success this year in achieving our goals.

Re: 2020 - THE NO-BUY, LOW-BUY, BUDGET-BUY ACCOUNTABILITY AND SUPPORT THREAD

@ElleElleG Thanks for keeping the good work going!

This year, I need to get my act together. I still haven’t done the full closet purge I’m planning, but I know I need to do it. And I’m going to have to put myself on a clothing and shoes low-buy. I’m pretty good with my beauty purchases at this point after 6 years of being careful, so at least that’s progress.

I am planning to travel less this year so I can save up for two future down payments, a car and an apartment. Let’s see how it goes!

Cheers and good luck everyone!

RE: 2020 - THE NO-BUY, LOW-BUY, BUDGET-BUY ACCOUNTABILITY AND SUPPORT THREAD

Hi!!! Joining right in. I’m on a low buy still. I spent a ton on makeup last summer and I need to use what I have. I will be buying things that need refilling such as foundation, C.C. cream, loose powder, mascara, etc. But Only as needed. Perhaps when my birthday comes around I’ll treat myself to something but that’s all I have planned. Good luck with your low and no buys everyone!
