Why does my face REJECT face makeup??

I have combination skin -- more oily in the t-zone with large pores on my nose and cheeks and naturally pink cheeks. I've tried foundations and powders and everything I put on my face seems to just sit on top of my skin and peel off. What the heck am I doing wrong? I've tried w/ primer and w/o primer -- NO CHANGE. Pore fillers -- NO CHANGE. I've moisturized -- NO CHANGE. It's not that my skin is dry. Spots can be dry but for the most part I'd say my skin is more on the oily side. Face makeup just seems to peel everywhere! Around my hairline, on my cheeks, on my chin, ESPECIALLY on the sides of my nose. The only thing I can wear on my face is the Charlotte Ronson A Summer's Kiss Face and Body Glow on my cheeks and Benefit's Sunbeam as an highlighter. I love the look. It gives me a nice glow and a fresh face. And for some reason my face readily accepts these products. I'd like something a little more polished for formal affairs though. I have two weddings coming up in July. For my own wedding I had airbrushed makeup and that seemed fine. I don't get it. I'm super frustrated and planning to take a trip to Sephora tomorrow to return this Becca Satin Finish Foundation.

Re: Why does my face REJECT face makeup??

I'm using the Korres now. And yes moisturizer before primer. My skin looks great with the primer on. My skin looks great with the foundation patted on. It's when I start rubbing it in that I'm getting problems. The makeup itself just starts to peel up. I read somewhere else that it could be the natural oils in my skin causing the makeup to separate and that's the peeling I'm seeing. I guess anything's possible. The recommendation was to get an oil free foundation. But even powder has this peely effect so I don't know *shrugs*

But waiting 10-15 minutes to let your primer dry is toooo long I'm thinking it's the primer peeling off as your rubbing your makeup in, it could also be that your putting on too much primer. It's gotta be something to do with the primer because I think it's your primer coming off as your rubbing your makeup in. Just a thought good luck. But I do advise not to let your primer dry that longSmiley Happy

Re: Why does my face REJECT face makeup??

I would try using just a bit of primer and smooth it out to the areas you need it with your finger tips, try not to rub it in. You can also try tapping it and then smoothing over the oily parts, I wouldn't wait 10-15 minutes for the primer to set like beautylovingirl suggested, once its not tacky, maybe like a minutes or two, then put on foundation.

Re: Why does my face REJECT face makeup??

i have combination skin as well and noticed a lot of those problems when i was using a generic moisturizer/sunscreen.  Even if I allowed it to sit before applying makeup, it would still kind of bead away from my skin and rub off.  Anyways, once I went to the dermatologist and got a better moisturizer (I now use Hylatopic to prevent any eczema patches).  Once I got that step fixed I can now use my cover Fx foundation with or without primer and it stays put with no beading or peeling! =]

Re: Why does my face REJECT face makeup??

Hmm... that's an interesting thought. I just purchased a new moisturizer from Philosophy that is supposed to be great for sensitive oily/combination skin like me. It had tons of rave reviews. It's called Take A Deep Breath Oil-Free Energizing Oxygen Gel Cream Moisturizer. Hopefully that helps. If not then I just might give that Hylatopic one a try. Thank you for the advice Patricia Smiley Happy

Re: Why does my face REJECT face makeup??

I can say that I just overcame this problem about a week ago. I tend to flake on my cheeks, the bottom of my nose and between my eyebrows. Other than that my other problem is redness.

My biggest mistake was that I had no skin care routine.

I started off using my Clarisonic, with the Tea Tree Oil Cleanser, and Vitamin E Hydrating toner. My face began to do what it has always done, flake. I realized I was missing probably the most important thing (especially during the winter), moisturizer.

*I'd question your skin care routine if you are still having problems with peeling (is it too harsh or too often?) It takes experimentation to find what works best for your skin, do take the time to review products, and buy sample sizes, before deciding to stick with it. You don't have to buy an entire line of product, maybe mix it up like I do. I would recommend the philosophy brand that someone above suggested. I use the tea tree oil cleanser mainly because it removes blemishes and is gentle enough for daily use, but use a vitamin e toner and moisturizer because I struggle with dry areas and redness, and don't want my skin to be overwhelmed. Another thing to look at is maybe the ingredients in your makeup, is it one product, or multiple products? I've always stayed away from powder foundation, as usually if you are "flaky" they tend to just let the makeup sit upon the spots.
