I always look moonfaced and I think it's my foundation. What do you suggest?

As a writer, I'm occasionally in photo ops. I have a square face, and I'm middle-aged, but not unattractive. However, whenever I see photos of myself I cringe - my face looks fat and round! I suspect it's because so many foundations have light diffusers to soften the look of wrinkles, etc. I normally use mineral powders because my skin is very oily. I also have rosacea.

But as my career as a writer is taking off, I find myself in situations where candid shots are taken of me at booksignings, public appearances, etc. My best friend has a TV show about to premiere and I'll be at the red carpet premiere. I'd really like to come off looking elegant, not moonfaced. Please help!

Make Up For Ever makes a line of HD (high definition) makeup products that are designed especially to be used when on camera or in photos.

For foundation, I'd try Make Up For Ever HD Invisible Cover Foundation which is an oil-free medium-to-full-coverage liquid foundation that covers skin imperfections flawlessly while remaining invisible on-screen and in real life.  This foundation creates a soft-focus effect, which is designed to meet the coverage concerns of those in the spotlight.  It leaves your complexion with such a flawless finish, it can withstand bright or harsh lighting and you can find it here:  http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P217905&categoryId=B70

You can also use Make Up For Ever's Foundation Shade Finder Tool to help you to choose the perfect match for your skin tone and you can access it here:  http://www.sephora.com/browse/brand_hierarchy.jhtml?brandId=MAKE%20UP%20FOR%20EVER&contentId=C19212

I'd try Make Up For Ever's HD Microfinish Powder to set your foundation.  It sets foundation and slightly mattifies your skin without changing its natural contours.  This 100% mineral silica powder softens the appearance of imperfections.  It completely evens out your complexion and one universal shade works for all skin tones.  You can find it here:  http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P210400&categoryId=B70

If you need a concealer, then I would try Make Up For Ever's HD Invisible Cover Concealer which is an oil-free, medium-coverage concealer that covers imperfections while (like the HD foundation) remaining invisible to high-definition televisions, photographs and the naked eye.  This concealer creates a soft-focus effect, brightening the eye area while reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles for a natural, radiant look.  The innovative soft silicone applicator enables precise application for a perfectly even finish and you can find it here:  http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P242203&categoryId=B70

That's an excellent question alienchangeling!

To tell whether you have a square shaped face, your forehead, cheeks and jaw line will normally be of the same width and the width of your face is also the same as the height.

Using a small angled brush for precision, contour the corners of the upper half of your face (to the forehead into the hairline and blend downwards).  The same applies to the bottom half of your face contouring the jaw line just in the corners. You will then want to flatten underneath your cheekbones. Feel for the hollow part of your cheeks (right under your cheekbone) and contour that area by blending upwards.  This will draw attention away from the harsh corners of your face.

Sephora Collection I.T. Synthetic Angled Blush Brush

Guerlain Terracotta Mineral Flawless Bronzing Powder

If you have a matte bronzer you can use the one you already own, but you want to make sure that it is completely matte.

To finish the look, apply a highlighter with a fan brush to the upper area of your cheekbone, apples of your cheeks and the bridge of your nose.  This will give the illusion of heightened cheekbones and draw attention towards the middle of your face.

Too Faced Absolutely Invisible Candlelight Powder

Sephora Collection I.T. Highlighting Fan Brush

I hope these steps help you acheive the look you were going for! Good luck in all your endeavors and have fun on the red carpet. Smiley Very Happy

Cheers,

Tiffany
