Does BB Cream replace moisturizer or should I be using both?

I am using Dr. Jart's BB Premium cream along with Perricone's face finishing moisturizer. As I'm in school now paying my own way, do I need a moisturzier with a BB cream? Is there a cheaper moisturizer than Perricone that you can recommend if I should use both? Perricone is great, but far too pricey for me at this point. Thanks!

Hi rubythursday,

Although Beauty Balms do have some moisturizing benefits it is important to still be using daily moisturizer to ensure that your skin is staying hydrated Smiley Happy. One of my favorite moisturizers to use on conjunction with my BB creams is the Korres Wild Rose 24 Hour Moisturizing & Brightening Cream. First Aid Beauty's Ultra Repair Face Moisturizer is a wonderful product to use before BB cream applications too!

Thanks! I've been considering First Aid Beauty. A friend with eczema swears by it.

I agree with Janine, though BB creams do help moisturize, they're considered more of a cosmetic grade product than a skin care product. Use a light weight lotion underneath so you won't feel like you're wearing too much on the skin.

What about the Perricone moisturizer did you like? Give us some of your wants/needs in terms of moisturizer and we can recommend some new ones that can also wear well under your BB cream.

That's what I figured, but as Perricone is very expensive and I do not have the same luxury budget I had (thanks, law school), an alternative would be nice. My skin is very, very dry. I used to have a pimple or two every two weeks or so, but by using Kate Sommerville wash and toner regularly, but skin is actually very clean now. I just don't want to switch moisturizers and break out again, but I also am not sure I can justify the cost any more. Thanks for the advice1

Try looking into CeraVe, it's a very cost effective line that is packed with enriched, hydrating ingredients that rival top brands that charge an arm and leg for a more hopped up formula. It's a real basic moisturizer they make (night and day formulas, the day even has a higher SPF than most lotions on the market at 30), but it gets the job done. It's packed with ceramides and humectants like hyaluronic acid, which helps to bind healthy moisture to the skin and the ceramides help to improve the lipid balance in skin and cells to keep everything well hydrated. The formulas aren't greasy and cost about $12 a bottle at CVS or Walgreens.
