Smooth Finisher Exfoliating Bath Mitt

I need some advice here.  I just purchased and tried the Smooth Finisher Exfoliating Bath Mitt.  I read the review & everyone is extremely happy with it - which is why I purchased it.  Although the directions said use in bath - I don't have a bathtub (hard to believe - don't ask)  Reviews said they used it in the shower with great results.  I used it for the first time  - in the shower - nothing happened!  What am I doing wrong here? I took a long shower before I tried it to try to get the same affect as in the bath.
