@SkincareNiki Couple questions for you: Which one of The Ordinary’s salicylic acid serums have you used? They make two: #The Ordinary Salicylic Acid 2% Exfoliating Blemish Solution 1 oz / 30 mL and The Ordinary Salicylic Acid 2% Anhydrous Solution Pore Clearing Serum 1 oz/ 30 mL . How long have you been using it? No matter what you use on your skin, results take time. And some acne-fighting ingredients, like salicylic acid, can cause a sudden increase of acne (“purging”) that usually calms down within a month; think of it as crud being evicted from your pores. Also, there are different types of acne and they don’t all respond well to the same ingredients. You’ll need a dermatologist or primary care doctor to diagnose which type of acne you have. Without knowing your acne type, I’ll list a few acne-fighting ingredients and products you might wanna consider trying—with a caveat that your best bet is to see a derm or other doctor for treatment options for your particular skin. Benzoyl peroxide - seeks and destroys acne-causing bacteria. PanOxyl Face Wash, available at your local drugstore or (if you’re in the US) Target. Comes in 4% and 10% strength; try the lower strength. Also consider The INKEY List SuperSolutions 5% Benzoyl Peroxide Cleanser Acne Solution 5 oz / 150 mL or CeraVe Acne Foaming Cream Cleanser (contains 4% benzoyl peroxide). Azelaic acid - targets acne-causing bacteria and helps reduce dark marks left by acne. My favorite is Paula's Choice 10% Azelaic Acid Booster 1 oz/ 30 mL , but less expensive options are Peach Slices Redness Relief Azelaic Acid Serum (available at Ulta and direct from the brand), The INKEY List SuperSolutions 10% Azelaic Serum Redness Relief Solution 1 oz / 30 mL , and The Ordinary Azelaic Acid 10% Suspension Brightening Cream 1 oz/ 30 mL . Adapalene - a retinoid that primarily targets acne. Before going this route, I recommend you talk with a doctor about side effects and changes you might need to make to your usual skincare routine. Differin Gel and La Roche-Posay Effaclar Adapalene Gel are 2 options to consider. There are a few other anti-acne ingredients, but those 3 immediately spring to mind.

@BrookieDaCat A hormonal change can cause acne. So can stress. These 2 things are hard to control, especially the first one which happens to pretty much everyone. You’d need to ask your primary care doctor about that. You might prevent some acne by simply following a good basic skincare routine of gentle non-drying cleanser, moisturizer, and daily sunscreen. Be consistent with it. This will help keep your pores from getting clogged with excess dead skin cells and acne-causing bacteria.

Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Foundationand Dior Backstage Face & Body Foundation have lasted me through hot lights @dancergirl567 . I have combo/oily skin as a reference. They have reformulated the latter, so I don't know if it still holds the same, you might be able to get the older version on another site like Amazon or a reseller site.

The Ordinary Mini Glycolic Acid 7% Exfoliating Toner 3.38 oz / 100 ml (the mini so you can see if you like it first before getting the full). Only exfoliate 1-2 times a week (preferably at night) so you don’t damage your skin barrier and apply SPF that morning! AHA’s increase sun sensitivity.

@abbyschmoyer I’ve heard good things about REN Clean Skincare Evercalm™ Barrier Support Body Balm Targeted Treatment for Senstive Skin 3 oz / 90 ml . It’s a balm instead of a cream but it seems to do really well for people with eczema so I figured it’d be worth mentioning since your condition is similar to that. *apparently the barrier support balm isn’t available at Sephora, you can get it on Walmart’s website or Ren’s website but its cheaper at Walmart*But in case you want something more familiar and cheaper; besides Cerave and cetaphil, i tend to like Aquaphor’s Healing Ointment as well.
