Whitehead Help!

I'd say I have normal type skin and I don't deal with acne, but whiteheads. I get them usually in the forehead, chin, and in my eyebrows. I have been using Dr. Murad acne line for about 2 months and it hasn't helped a whole lot. I've also invested in a Clarisonic Mia a few weeks ago along with Peter Thomas Roth's Sulfur Mask. I have been searching Sephora for something that will help rid my face of whiteheads so I can have clear skin finally. I was wondering if there were any cleansers, products that I haven't tried that will help clear my skin up.

Re: Whitehead Help!

In high school I had whiteheads extremely bad. I tried Proactiv and other drug store products and finally went to a dermatoligist. He prescribed me Tretinoin .025% Cream. It's about $20 for a tube, but lasts 3-4 months.
It takes about a month to see results, but my whiteheads cleared up almost completely!!!!!!!!
Now I just have a 2-3 on my cheeks at a time and a few on my chin. HUGE IMPROVEMENT!!!!!!!

Hello Mavis126,

You say you have whiteheads.  Sounds like you have combination skin which has a tendency to be acne-prone since the whiteheads are located in your "T" zone on your face and this is a characteristic of acne.   Please consider products that have Salicylic Acid to kill the bacteria. Benzoyl Peroxide is irritating and drying to the skin so avoid products with this ingredient.   When your skin's ph levels are off it is the perfect environment for the bacteria which contributes to acne to grow and spread.  Wash your face no more than twice a day.  There is a skincare line called Mario Badescu Skincare.  Please take a look at the website which has products for combination, acne-prone,oily, sensitive, dry, and other skin issues.  The products are reasonably priced and last awhile and are very effective.  You can even call a Rep or e-mail someone to get a personalized skincare program.  FYI...the Acne Cleanser, Glycolic Foaming Cleanser,Control Moisturizer for Oily skin and Drying Lotion are very good products to start out with.  Hope this helps!

A spot treatment like Proactiv's usually does the trick, but if your Murad system is really working, you should try to determine the cause of the breakouts.  I noticed that I usually breakout in the areas that I touch my face without necessarily washing my hands right before.  Try to be aware of touching your face (we do it without noticing sometimes), and also drink lots of water, which flushes out the toxins in your skin.  Make sure that you use a cleanser to remove your makeup (especially foundation) before you go to bed.  A great cleanser is Philosophy's purity cleanser-here's the link:
