Oh, the oil!

As someone who has struggled with deep, cystic acne for years, one would think that I have found a way to tame it over time. Unfortunately, I have yet to find ANYTHING that works for more than a few weeks. As soon as my skin is used to a certain product or remedy, my acne flairs right back up. Alongside the oil that never seems to go away, I get very painful, white pimples mostly along my jawline and cheek areas. Blackheads aren't too much of an issue; just the usual scattered few along my nose. My skin is consistently red and puffy and sometimes bleeding from the pimples bursting open all the time. Most foundations I've ever worn only irritate it further. It seems like the "pizza face" stage will never end for me!

If anyone has any skin care advice or products that they've used with skin like mine, I'd greatly appreciate it!

Re: Oh, the oil!

Have you had any success tracing your acne flareups to anything @MissxMouse? It kind of sounds like they could be hormonal. If you are constantly bleeding or in pain from them then my best advice would be to go to a dermatologist and see what your options are-- topicals, antibiotics, down the line. If skincare is just bouncing off, it might be something to consider. If you don't want to go that route, I would look into a daily BHA like Paula's Choice 2% BHA. You could also try using a retinol-- OTC Differin is an option, I also really like Skinmedica's retinols. Of course, make sure you're washing your face with a cleanser that's not stripping it too much, and you might want a gel moisturizer on hand. To be honest, what cleared my skin was medication, but I feel like skincare has come so far in the last ten years that maybe that wouldn't be necessary anymore. Best of luck, I remember the struggle!

Re: Oh, the oil!

I highly recommend the Shiseido White Lucent Brightening Protective Emulsion. This moisturizer has completely changed my skin from acne prone to acne free. It has a wonderful refreshing scent to it and it is extremely moisturizing. The common misconception is that acne should go away when your skin is dry, but it is the complete opposite. Your skin should me moisturized and nourished for the acne to disappear, and this is one of the best moisturizers that I have ever used. This moisturizer does have a matching toner as well if you are interested. I would test out the moisturizer and the toner in store before purchasing because it is a bit pricey. I would also ask an employee in store if the moisturizer would suit your skin type!
