Welcome to BIC, @KAMIECE! Is your skin dry, oily, combo, or balanced (not too dry or oily anywhere)? Hormonal acne can happen in all those scenarios, and some sunscreens might feel better on dry vs. oily skin.
My skin is mostly-dry combo: my oily zone is just on and around my nose. My skin’s also fairly sensitive, reactive/inflammation-prone, and going through perimenopausal hormonal acne, yaaaaaaaay. 😒 I can’t guarantee that any sunscreen won’t clog your pores—I mean, ideally none of ‘em should, but it really depends on how your particular skin reacts to various sunscreens. But I can recommend some lightweight sunscreens that leave no white cast:
- SKIN1004 Madagascar Centella Hyalu-Cica Water-Fit Sun Serum SPF50 PA++++ - a Korean sunscreen that might be hard to buy now (even from K-beauty retailers) if you’re in the US. It’s a lightweight chemical sunscreen that uses the updated UV filters we can’t get in American sunscreens. And since my skin’s mostly dry and reactive, this sunscreen’s a savior for me. If you can find it and get it shipped to you without paying a ridiculously high price, it’s worth trying a tube.
- Supergoop! Protec(tint) Daily SPF Tint SPF 50 Sunscreen Skin Tint with Ectoin - a hybrid (zinc oxide + chemical UV filters) sunscreen that comes in a few different shades. 34C works pretty well for me, thought it leans toward the warm side of neutral. (I have a rosy undertone.) On my skin, this sunscreen doesn’t feel thick or greasy at all. But if you have a local store that carries it, try swatching a tester to see how it looks and feels on the back of your hand. You’ll probably wanna do that anyway to figure out which shade might work best for you.
- Supergoop! Every. Single. Face. Watery Lotion SPF 50 Face Sunscreen 1.7 oz / 50 ml - a chemical sunscreen I’ve never tried, but a friend of mine with dry skin swears by. I assume it was created to be similar to Japanese “watery” sunscreens that are truly liquidy in texture. Those sunscreens usually feel very lightweight, as if you’re applying a watery serum. My friend says Supergoop’s doesn’t pill or leave a white cast on her medium-deep skin tone. And this reminds me to try it myself… I should add it to my Sephora Spring Saving Event shopping list.
One of my favorite reliable sunscreens, #Supergoop! Unseen Sunscreen Invisible Broad Spectrum SPF 50 PA +++, was recently reformulated. I haven’t tried the new version yet (note to self). The old SPF 40 version feels good on my skin, but I know some folks didn’t like its silicone gel texture. I can’t recommend the new version to you in good faith because I haven’t tried it yet or spoken to anyone who has.
La Roche-Posay makes very good sunscreens, but many of them can feel heavy or greasy. Have you ever tried their Anthelios Ultra Light Fluid Face Sunscreen SPF 60? It comes in a little bottle you have to shake before using. That one’s also a watery formula and many people love it. And since the US version’s a chemical sunscreen, it should be 100% invisible on skin. I see it’s on sale at Ulta right now. 😉
