I like to use Garnier Micellar Water on my brushes it helps break up the makeup deep down, then I Iike to use Dr. Bronner's Magic Soap to clean them rinse and then air dry, I try to do this about once a week

Re: Cleaning make up brushes

I have sensitive skin, so i clean my brushes after each use. I use the beautyblender soap since i love how my brushes feel after them, and how white they look after too.

Re: Cleaning make up brushes

I use Cinema Secrets brush cleaner to clean my brushes daily. For each brush, I wet a tissue with the liquid and wipe my brushes all over the tissue until they're clean. I'm just not comfortable with using something that's been used and left to sit with the makeup, skin cells and oils on top, even if it's just my own face. The only exception is my Chikuhodo travel cheek brush; since it's natural hair, I wipe with a tissue after every use and only use brush cleaner after a few uses (which isn't often, it's a travel brush after all). Takes me about 2 minutes each day to clean brushes this way.

About once a month, I will completely shampoo all brushes just to get out any remaining gunk that might have migrated upwards. Currently I have the solid Sephora brush cleaner (the one that comes with a little pink silicone pad) but I'm going to test out Daiso sponge and puff cleaner which is supposed to be the queen of all brush cleaners.

Re: Cleaning make up brushes

hey @aolber

Just to give you a little info on me: I have sensitive skin that's prone to breakouts so I have to be careful with dirty brushes! Here is my rule of thumb when it comes to cleaning brushes:

Foundation/concealer brushes: these are 1 time use for me, I have a couple of each so for example if I use a foundation brush to apply my foundation, as soon as I'm done I wipe it with a tissue (to get the residue of the makeup out of the brush) and I set it aside for my weekly brush cleaning (more on this in a little bit).

Powder brushes (blush, bronzer, setting powder): I use these for max 1 week before cleaning, sometimes I clean them twice a week (depending on how often I do my makeup but generally I have makeup on minimum 5/7 days a week).

Eye brushes: I have quite a few eye brushes so what I do in my case is use 1 brush per different color of eyeshadow (yes it's annoying but it's the easiest way I found for my routine). I typically use 2-5 eyeshadow colors to achieve the look I'm going for, so about 2-5 brushes get used. When my eyeshadow brushes get too clunked up with product, boy does it show in the blending!

My weekly brush cleaning routine: now we're getting to the fun part! Yes, that was sarcasm. I hate cleaning my brushes, but finally found a way to make it bearable. As mentioned above, when I use a foundation brush ONCE, I set it aside. I have a cup under the sink where I keep my dirty brushes that have to get washed (I always try to wipe off any excess product that may be on the brush that way it doesn't harden by the time I get to the weekly cleaning). All my dirty brushes go there, and then once a week, I give them a deep clean! I use baby shampoo because I find it gentle yet tough enough to get the grime out of the brushes, regardless of what the product may be. I also recently bought the Sephora silicone brush pad and omg what a difference! This is so much easier to clean my brushes, it's inexpensive also! So I apply a bit of baby shampoo onto the cleansing pad, wet a brush, swirl it around in the little nibs or the pad and it cleanses the brush so well and so fast! I then wipe down the brush into a clean towel and lay it flat to dry.

All this to say, cleaning your brushes is crucial for not only preventing gunk and gross bacteria from getting into your brushes AND your skin, but also to help maintain your brushes! If you don't clean them as often and too much product cakes up then you'll have to throw out your brush, and nobody wants that! Hope this was helpful!
