I feel like I am the only one

I am a 63 yr old male that is interested in makeup and want to learn how to apply it well. However attempts I make end in disastrous failures leaving me frustrated and unhappy. I feel like all other men can apply makeup well and look great. It makes me feel like it’s message it is wrong for me to wear makeup

@Andy1087 I’m sorry you feel that way.

As a Sephora employee, I see people of all ages and races come in and ask for help. We also have services where you can learn makeup application tips and tricks.

@Andy1087, sometimes you gotta fake it until you make it. Everyone has a preference and a bias, but you're just as welcome to wear makeup as anyone. If you don't feel that way it can also come with practice. But, if you're also letting people contribute to negative feelings you're missing out good stuff. Pretend or think how comfortable, excited or just fun it'd be too do a look. You'll get there and just pick a single item or color to try.

Heard. ! No pressure, eventually try and have a go at it or something @Andy1087 , you're never obligated to post your face, a lot of people post lists or pics of products. Instead of thinking how bad you are (which is really just what we tell ourselves, beauty is subjective), try to envision what you'd like to see...

You can also privately message a member if you're not comfortable with paying and just want to ask a question. Hope you feel up to trying your hand at makeup sometime (soon).

@Andy1087 Makeup is a journey and one that I’ve struggled with too. Take your time with it and have patience with yourself. Here’s a few tips that have helped me.

Study your facial features and find tutorials online that use models with similar features.
Sit down with a makeup artist and ask for a lesson. Sephora tends to do their lessons out in the open but some private studios have a closed off section away from public eyes for privacy
Start with nude shades. They tend to be more forgiving and blend in with your own skin. Bright colours need more patience.
Breathe. It’s just makeup and wipes off easily. If you don’t like what you see, wipe it off and try something else.
