The Offical Anti-Haul Thread

By this point most of us have watched an anti-haul video (or a hundred) but I don't see a current anti-haul thread on the BIC and I think it could be fun to start a running "anti-consumerism" thread for a bit of a change. For those that aren't familiar with the term an anti-haul is listing off things you are NOT going to be adding to your cart for whatever reason that may be. Rather it's because you simply don't like the look of that new palette release or if you've been eyeing something for a while and are itching to buy it but you really know that you don't need it (or that you really shouldn't be buying it). I'm starting a no buy this month and I know many people are on a low/no buy so why not have some fun with our budgeting by dragging some products, helping talk ourselves out of the new product releases or old cult classic favorites that you "just had to try" by raving why we are not going to buy it! This is also the spot to voice why you simply aren't inspired by a product even if everyone else is rushing to add it to their cart. So, don't beat around the bush and share your anti-haul products 🙂

Some Ground "Rules":

This is the place to be open and honest, don't tip-toe around the point because you think you might hurt some peoples feelings that enjoy a certain product. If you have strong opinions, let them out! (Example: The packaging is hideous and the product is overhyped!)
Tell us why you are not interested in the product get as specific (or not) as you'd like but please do let us know why you aren't going to buy it. You may be helping someone else be talked out of a product as well 🙂 (Example: I already own 25 other lipsticks in a strikingly similar shade of mauve)
If someone is anti-hauling and dragging a product you like, do not get offended. How boring would the world be if we all wanted/liked/bought the exact same things? Not everyone has the same taste, what is ugly to someone is gorgeous to someone else.
Products are inanimate objects, please do not argue over disagreeing about products. The products feelings will not be hurt if it is anti-hauled or dragged by another BIC-er online and I'm sure plenty of people will go buy it. Not every product is for everyone, if you want to purchase a product go ahead and don't let anyone here stop you. Let's not argue about something as trivial as disagreements about makeup packaging, perfume scents or eyeshadow colors. It isn't worth it and we are all better than that.

Anti-Haul Winter 2022: Clinique Lunar New Year Cheek Pop Highlighter

All The Details:

Alright, I want to start off by saying this is a beautiful highlighter and it's making it to my anti-haul because out of all the Lunar New Year releases this is the one that keeps calling my name. I'm very bummed I missed out in 2020 on the rat release and I think that seeing this drop made me really want to own it in this version. This product is quite affordable ($26.50) and I love the stamping on the highlighter. However, I own a ton of highlighters and many that look very similar to this. Including one I bought just last week from Marc Jacobs (the shade looks strikingly similar). I have enough highlighters that I realistically am never going to run through all of them. So do I need another gold highlighter just because it's beautiful and a good price point? No. Does it make sense to get this tiger stamped one when in reality I wanted the 2020 rat version? No. Cats hunt rats. 😛

Anti-Haul Winter 2022: The Entire Sol de Janeiro Hair Product Line

All The Details:

When I initially saw this was being released I was super excited, this was a few months after I had just discovered the love of Sol de Janeiro's bum bum cream scent (and the coco cabana scent too!) and I was sure that I absolutely needed to try out the hair mask and hair oil. And, genuinely... I still would like to try those two products but in reality... I'm confused to why exactly. (Actually I'm not, it's totally for the scent) I already own hair masks I love: the Amika Soulfood, CurlSmith mask, SheaMoisture Manuka Honey and Mafura Oil mask, etc. the list goes on... is there really a reason why I need to add another mask into the mix if I already have/use/own 3-5 that I reach for on rotation all the time. The best case scenario here: I love it and add yet another mask into that rotation. (But, why?) And the worst case scenario: I don't like the mask, at least not as much as my others and I feel like I wasted my money. Same for the hair oil, I own at least 2-3 oils or oil mists that I genuinely love. Right now is not the right time to go searching for another to add to the mix. Furthermore, I already own the bum bum cream in a body/hair mist if I want my hair to smell like the bum bum cream I can spritz this into my locks (and oftentimes do!) so I can have my cake and eat it too, so to speak. I also own the original bum bum cream and the hand cream, I have plenty of things to get my scent-fix of this. If I receive a sample of this, I'll gladly use it and give it a go (especially the hair oil). But, I'm not going to be buying these in the upcoming sales like I initially planned to.

Note to Self: You're Not Buying This At The VIB Sale or You're Grounded. I mean IT! 😂

Anti-Haul Winter 2022: Maison Francis Kurkdjian Paris Baccarat Rouge 540 Extrait de Parfum

Out of all the product I'll ever anti-haul, this is probably the one I'm most surprised about. If you told me I'd be willingly saying I am not ever going to buy Baccarat Rouge 540 a year or so ago, I would have laughed in disbelief. But alas, here we are... anti-hauling the scent I've been wanting to get my hands on (arguably) the most. I was positive this would reach my perfume collection someday and someday soon. However, I decided I won't be buying this for one very good fluffy reason, introducing...

The Ariana Grande Cloud Perfume. What does that have to do with Baccarat Rouge 540? Well, some very reliable perfumers and scent addicts alike have been comparing these two perfumes to one another for quite some time. Many, many people believe that they are "almost exact dupes". I own and love the Ariana Grande perfume and it's a new discovery that I happened to stumble upon randomly at an ULTA without ever having interest in it. I honestly didn't even know about the comparison of the striking similarity to BR540. I adore Cloud so much that I literally sleep in this perfume. It's stunning and I bought it on Amazon in my Subscribe and Save for under $25/1 oz. I will probably continue buying this perfume on a bi-monthly basis because I'll be running out quick and it's super affordable to do so and widely available almost everywhere. If I am in love with a perfume that I can snag for under $25/1oz and that costs $65/3.4 fl oz for a full size why would I ever try to experiment with Baccarat Rouge 540 for $435/2.4 oz? I feel like I would be extremely disappointed if I splurged on this $400+ perfume I have been eyeing for quite some time only to like the dupe more than costs 1/10th of the price. I'm going to stick with the "dupe" form because I would rather use the $435 I planned to spend on BR540 to invest into more unique fragrances to add to my collection. You win this one, Ariana.

What a great idea for a thread @QueenMarceline. I have been having a few ah ha moments concerning my overwhelming stash. COVID really changed my perspective about makeup. I recently saw a picture of Amanda Seyfried on Instagram wearing a gorgeous rose gold themed makeup. There were no obvious multi colored eyeshadows or noticeable eyeliner. It was very glowing and natural looking. I was thinking that this is a look that I would hope to achieve. I am sure if I take my time to shop my own stash that I can accomplish this look which can be both professional and suitable for a dressy occasion.

I must have at least 400 lip products. Mask wearing really made me think that I must wear a product that is comfortable on my lips. I do not have the time to constantly apply a lip mask. I tried wearing one of my former favorite lipsticks and it felt like overkill. I find that I am preferring a mauve lip gloss. I even tried a lip gloss that in the past I considered not opaque enough and today it is perfect.

I have been feeling that my foundation has been looking more mask like than I care to have. It has been coming off on my clothes no matter how much setting spray I have applied. I purchased the new Tarte Amazonian Clay Powder foundation (Sephora really needs to carry this awesome product) and my coworker did not even realize that I was wearing foundation. I currently have at least 4 bottles of open foundation that I will save for warmer weather.
Don’t even start me on eyeshadow palettes. I must have at least 50 palettes some that I never opened. The new Natasha Denona eyeshadow palette is gorgeous but I am reminding myself not to purchase it.

Also you can put some of your unloved items up for trade and you can mention what you hope to trade for so that doesn’t count towards your no buy/low buy.

I can go on concerning various items in my stash by category but maybe later I will discuss them.

@Loretta55 Thanks so much for writing this! 🙂 You are totally right about makeup trends changing... I recently wore my Born This Way foundation under my tarte Shape Tape concealer and it also felt a bit mask-like when that used to be my go-to, so I completely understand. Also, I'm pretty much over liquid matte lipsticks other than a select few that are semi-comfortable on the lips. I tried to wear a couple and I seriously always have to top them with a Buxom gloss because they're just too drying and uncomfortable on me. I owned so many colors that I decluttered in early December, I think I must have passed along at least 30 liquid lipsticks. I'm also just honestly feeling overwhelmed by my collection, if I can't find a product I use quite a bit in the huge storage of makeup that I have in multiple parts of my house... that's an issue. I've been reaching for my glosses quite a bit lately and my classic style bullet lipsticks.

@greeneyedgirl107 I'm over them, too. They all seem so dull, even Gaga's, which is a feat in itself. I do think Rare Beauty is doing well and has it's audience pretty well pegged but I wonder if it's going to go the way of Fenty and fall by the wayside in a couple of years. I'm also over influencer brands for the most part. Never say never, but never for now on most of them.

@QueenMarceline cool thread! I think first on my list would be the new CT matte cream shadows. All the reviews I've seen have been terrible. Her new foundation also seems to be getting mixed reviews, so it's a pass for me for now. Another skip is the ND Mini Crush. As much as I love ND, I can't do any more pink. Same with the CP Valentine's collection. I love the heart-shaped blushes and that packaging but I have all of PMG's blushes, plus a ton of Hourglass, so skip. I love greens but the UD Wild Greens is a skip. How can you call something "wild" and then have that color story. I know neutrals sell the most but it's just a miss for me.

@greeneyedgirl107 Personally, I agree... I feel like I was annoyed with celebrity collaborations back in 2016/2017 and now it's turned over to full blown celebrity brands. I think I'm starting to miss the collabs now 😂I really try to steer clear of most celebrity brands. Not going to lie, I have been tempted by Fenty but I think for a while now I've deliberately avoided it due to it's celeb attachment. It's hard to tell sometimes especially with celebrities so well loved like Rihanna rather the hype of the product(s) is real of if the audience is already inclined to be buying because they love Rihanna and therefore, put on rose colored glasses in their reviews. It's become very difficult with PR as well to discern what opinions are actually real and what is backed by a some sort of incentive behind it for the creator. Although, now that Fenty was acquired by ULTA I think I'll probably play around at my local store and get to see for myself 🙂

@makeitup305 I also fully agree with you about Selena and Rare Beauty, it seems to be doing well and I really have my eye on two products in particular that I want to try out. I think her more "natural vibe" instilled in her beauty is helping her makeup sell and be more appealing to current trends and consumer needs. It's honestly why it's caught my attention 🙂 Definitely won't be anti-hauling rare beauty but the other celeb brands can go 😜

@makeitup305 Thanks so much 🙂 Wow! I love those inclusions of an anti-haul. Honestly, I've been seeing so many Valentine's Day releases and is this like... a new "thing"? I feel like in the past I've never seen so many brands do this many Valentines Day themed, heart-shaped, red-lipstick, punchy-blush, repackaged in red/pink jars type of thing. It's literally everywhere. Some of the releases caught my eye (the darn Gucci lipstick lol) but... I think I need to anti-haul it based on pure principle. 😂

@makeitup305 I totally agree about skipping Mini Crush; initially I thought it was cute but 4 out of the 5 shades are from pre-existing palettes (which I think is kind of pathetic) and I just don't need it. And ditto on the UD palette? "Wild Greens"? Where? 😂

@CookieGirl1 I actually have not yet, but I have had a plan to spray one of my wrists with the OG Cloud and then to sample it on the other wrist at an ULTA to compare the two directly. I really have been eyeing the intense one, but in reality... idk how/why but the lasting power of the OG Cloud is very intense as it is on me.

@QueenMarceline I honestly don't feel like either has extremely great longevity on my skin but the difference (to me) is the depth. The Intense smells a little richer somehow...

You'll have to let me know what you think after you compare.
