@greeneyedgirl107 wearable in what sense? Do you want a more sheer formula? Are you looking for a bright, warm, neutral, or cool-toned red? A lot of times it depends on your skintone. I haven't tried this formula but I've got more than a few reds in my collection. I'm sure @Sunnysmom can help you out!

@makeitup305 I guess wearable as in not too loud. I've never owned a red. Not bright. I don't gravitate toward warms as I prefer cools, but at the sale price I'm open to trying new things. I have light skin. Thanks!!!

They are such a great price @greeneyedgirl107 ! I think I had Empowered and Hear Me Roar which are bolder shades tho they can be blotted down nicely. Like you I prefer cooler reds. Or sometimes mixed with a tad of brown, pink, even to make more wearable during the day. (Tho I mainly wear reds one shade I liked for an every day almost red was tho not sure if the newer version is the same. Probably so. ) if you wanna splurge a bit more I love Givenchy sheer velvets and their regulars and Gucci satins, Bobbi Brown, Dior. ( I can give you lots of thoughts on those shades when you want, ask away! Don’t want to bog you down if you don’t!)

This Sephora formula feel nice tho I think I had to use a bit of a liner to prevent some bleeding but not badly. I also have a few of the matte shades which are decent as well. I don’t have it but looks to be a nice muted cooler red with some pink to it? I have Break the Rules I think which is def bolder but again gorgeous blotted down or with a balm underneath. Sephora does such a nice job with their red lip selection I always think! Definitely worth trying out for sure. I’m still going to find the rascals and I’ll tag you here. They’re escaping me! Grr. So much for organizing them by brand! 🤗

@Sunnysmom such good information!!! I bookmarked this for future reference. I had the opportunity to go in-store today, and checked out the two items you tagged. The UD did look very pretty/promising online, but in person it was disappointing. I agree that SC has some nice reds!!! I'll have to go over them again when I have more time. The SC you tagged just might work...but of course I'd need to see it on my lips. I only swatched on my wrist. Plus, I rarely wear mattes. But I totally forgot that I bought several SC glosses (varying "clear" toppers, so to speak) that I could wear over it. I really should have just bought it. I just have so much to go through RN. I did buy two reds of the Rouge Lacquer because I could not resist the sale. The store was teeming with teen girls, and I had trouble keeping track of the similar shades. I think they'll be too much for me, but I can always give them to my sister. Thanks so much for the support! Looking forward to dropping a toe into reds. And I'm sure you're right about the luxe brands having great reds. I've marveled at the Dior in the past.

Oh fun @greeneyedgirl107 ! I’m so glad you could go in store and check them all out! I know right?! So many different reds! So easy for us to get confused, I know I do! 🤪 Yes Manic is tricky. It can look good or not. Lol. I liked the old formula. I have zero colors like that ever. That one worked oddly. Just blot your lips or blur them with a light layer and I bet whatever you find will be gorgeous on you! Yes let’s discuss other brands when you want to! Love the research! 🥰🤗

@greeneyedgirl107 you might like the which is $12 at the moment. It can be a little drying without a balm under it but I like that you can increase the intensity of it and blot it off. It faded evenly on me.

Not to enable you @greeneyedgirl107 but I look at stuff like this as not counting too much due to the great price! 😆 Like a lesser bottle of wine or grocery purchase etc?! Therefore it does not count. 🤔🥰 Seriously I really like these lips. Many colors in this formula are good! Let us know if you spring for it! ☺️

@Sunnysmom any recs on applying reds for newbie? I tend to have a heavy hand. Idk if I should dab the lipstick on, or use a lip brush, or something else. I don't even own a lip brush! There's always more to buy!

I like to break the red “rules” I think @greeneyedgirl107 ! Most think using a liner whether neutral-brownish shade or matching red is the way to go and while I do follow that for a dressier precise look I like to do other things and I would say there really are no rules in my mind. 😊 I like to apply it quickly while trying to avoid any huge mistakes along the way lip line -wise. Then I smoosh it with my pinkie and press lips gently together. Not too precious. Messy is the French way! Love the translucent blurred look too. If you do add gloss just do ever so lightly in the center so it doesn’t bleed. Using a lip brush is fun too and can be a good way to press it into the lips for a more saturated look and it also helps it behave, staying put longer. The old school way is to apply the lip, take a half tissue and press it onto lips, then dust with a bit of translucent powder from a fluffy brush. Remove tissue and voila! Lips should be set for quite a bit! One last little tidbit is to purse your lips (love a good purse 😆), stick a finger into your lips and pop it out to remove any little bits that can tend to hang out around your lips and lip lines. This one is invaluable to me! Works for any color obviously but with red it’s great! The world of red lippies is so fun! Beware the rabbit hole! 😂 Neutrals are lovely but there’s nothing like a pop of red and I know they’ll be so good on you! I think I started with light reds and then whoosh. Off I went! ( Plus as I’m older than you are , my lips have lost some color sadly so I need it! Ugh. ) I do love a retractable lip brush that you can load up with some lipstick and pop it into your smaller bag so you can add during a night out/ dinner etc and when you maybe don’t have much room. So there’s a reason to buy one!🙃 ☺️ I have an ancient MUFE and cute ones from Yolaine and Besame . I love Yolaine’s because it’s a brush on one end and a foam tip on other so it really gives that nice blurred look. Good options out there tho from BB, Dior, MAC etc and all on sale today I noticed. I don’t see any of Sephora to tag. I do know you know where to shop. 😘🥰 This is probably way more info than you ever wanted about red lips! 🤣🤗😘💄

I love Dior lippies, they have some pretty reds + nice formulas. Dior Addict Lip Maximizer Plumpimg Gloss is a fave, it feels great on yet doesn't leave my lips overly tingly. (Although I like some tingle too)

A Gloss or Balm might be a good starting point, maybe along the lines of Dior Addict Lip Glow, it feels so good and looks really pretty. Their shades are also very forgiving. The color 639 Riviera Star looks pretty and I think it leans more to a blue based red.

Then there's Nars.....don't even get me started! Love them too.😍 Their glosses are fab + Nars Afterglow Lip Balm is yummy. Next Afterglow on my list is Turbo, it's a sheer cherry red. Good place to get your feet wet.

There are also some great drugstore brands out there too, absolutely nothing wrong with starting there, I still wear them. Maybe L'oreal Colour Riche or Colour Riche Shine Lipstick in Enamel Red. On sale at Amazon for $5.88!!.

I'd say stay away from more matte lipsticks and go for juicier glossy finishes and balms, excellent for dry winter lips too.. Hope this helps and was not too overwhelming. (#toolong) Looking forward to hearing how your journey goes.
