dying my hair first time advice?

i will be dying my hair over the summer on my virgin hair. are there any tips or shampoos/conditioners you guys recommend so the color won’t fade out/damage? i have oily hair as well. but in case i dont dye my hair and don’t wanna waste my money, what are some products that would be good for daily use + dyed hair?

i have dark brown hair (black ?) and i want blonde/platinum blonde highlights. planning on going to a salon to bleach

Dying your hair for the first time I would use something that does not have ammonia at all something that is one or two shades darker than your hair color first and see if you like it keep it on just as long as the box says so Vaseline around the hairline ears and neck would be a good idea put down towels if you're using a straight pigment it will stain everything manic panic is certainly one of them if you are using or are thinking of using bleach go to a professional it does not end well

I would suggest a deep conditioner no heat for the first week cool water and hope it turns out great

That's exciting! @sophiadqqw before I give any recommendations I have some questions.

Are you doing it yourself and going to a salon?

Are you bleaching or doing a dark colour, or maybe something vibrant? What your getting done does make a difference on what I would recommend.

hi! i am going to the salon and bleaching for a lighter color. i have very dark brown hair and i just want highlights like blonde or platinum blonde in my hair! @GG84

Blonde hair doesn’t typically fade as you are lifting pigment out and not putting pigment in. However, going from black/dark brown to platinum is not a realistic expectation. It may be slightly easier to achieve on your virgin hair, but it might be more realistic to aim for a nice golden blonde. You can prep your hair for this to make sure it’s nice and strong by starting to use or weekly.
