I've got 10 years on you, and I know what you mean. What you describe was never a problem for me until I got older. You have to set the foundation so that the blush glides on and doesn't stutter step and stick on the tacky foundation.

After trying EVERYTHING under the sun so I didn't look like cake face, I finally found the Sisley Phyto Poudre Libre. I use the puff (per Wayne Goss's powder application instructions) to apply, remove the excess with a powder brush, and blush applies like a dream. The Sisley is "expensive," but I bought the one I have in July 2016, use it every darn day, and I've still got a healthy amount left. It will easily last until July 2018 at the least.

Set the foundation. Apply blush onto silk. You'll never look back,

Hello, I am 43 years old and I can't believe I am asking about putting blush on. (LOL)

My daily routine is...

skin care

Primer

Foundation (Dior Forever)

This is where I need help. If I wait 15 minutes to apply my blush (powder) it stops and looks like a clown.

I tried using Cover FX powder, but still the same issue. Please help...

What am I doing wrong?

What do you mean by stops?

If you want to apply powder blush over a liquid foundation it helps to dust over your foundation with a translucent setting powder first so your blush blends seamlessly. A softer and less dense brush will deposit a more sheer amount of blush on your cheeks. It also helps to quickly check the intensity of the blush your applying on the back of your hand before going directly to your face. If you do happen to apply too much you can soften it by blending a foundation powder over the blush. @MamaWitt

I blend my blush all the way to my hairline and place it on the high points of my cheeks. I find this is a more modern way to apply blush than the "apples of the cheeks only" advice.

I agree with the other poster; make sure you are setting your liquid foundation with a powder before putting on a powder blush for seamless blending. If you find your blush is too pigmented and coming across too strong, try dabbing rather than swiping your blush brush on your face. Try using a natural hair brush with looser bristles. Then blend, blend, blend back towards your hairline

The advice already given is great. I would also suggest a less pigmented blush, a brush that doesn't pick up much color so you can control how much you apply better, and a light swirl into a translucent powder before picking up your cheek color to diffuse if it's still too pigmented and hard to blend out. I don't have a sephora recommendation for a brush, though I like a particular pink and white drugstore contour brush.

Everyone provided great advice! Maybe powdering your face before application might help. Or, it may be the brush. I would choose a brush that is not too dense and lightly tap in the areas where I want to apply the blush. Also, you can try using a lighter shade/bronzer over your cheeks and use a more pigmented blush shade in the center for a gradient, natural look.

Lots of great advice! You may also want to experiment with different colors. There are plenty of shades that are more user friendly and natural looking with little effort. Becca flower child, surratt cherubique are great on warm skin tones. Liquid products may also work well if you want to apply directly over liquid foundation without powdering.
