I get better results if I give each step time to set. Moisturizer; then eye cream; then primer; then foundation - approximately 5-10 minutes in between each step. But I'm not sitting around just waiting. I'm getting dressed, getting my coffee, drying my hair, laying out the rest of the products/brushes I'm going to be using, etc. Before applying each, I check to make sure I don't need to blot extra product off my face with a tissue.

So I’m a late bloomer in the makeup world and am loving it so far. But I feel I may be doing something wrong with primers. It feels like my foundation is still “melting” off. I alternate between It and smash box foundation. When I apply the primer am I applying the foundation immediately after or do I allow time to let it “dry” so it sticks better? I don’t want to look like the Goonies dude.

My Primer dries immediately so I don’t wait. However, you are experiencing something that I experienced. The culprit for me was I prefer a water based foundation but I was using oil, Parabens and silicone products (my primer, moisturizer, etc.) with it and well, oil & water don’t mix. I have since switched to “clean products” in my skincare and makeup and am no longer dealing with makeup slippage/separating.

I usually let each skincare product sit. if I'm using a more matte foundation, I will sometimes mix a bit with my foundation. And never too late! I'm 51 and just started Makeup school! I will be a Certified MUA by next year I hope!

I use only IT foundation but, I use a little cc cream and a little of the matte type (still IT, just different texture). I follow the face makeup with loose powder and after all eye makeup is done, I finish with IT pressed powder to cover anything that I missed. I’m 62 (today) and you may not believe anyone could be this stupid but, until I was 55, I NEVER washed my face before bed and used BAR SOAP the next morning to wash my face! I’ve used TOO MANY creams, serums, lotions and potions to count but, have settled on Perricone as my skin care because it works for ME!! I’ve tried a primer (also IT cosmetics) once and I felt like it never dried so, now I just moisturize and finish with IT foundation because it has a lot of good moisturizers also. Do you feel you NEED the primer in the layering madness?? 🤣
