I can't believe it took me so long to start this thread -- I usually have started scoping the deals in September! But come one, come all, join the excitement of the weekend and let us know what deals you find!
And with that - it's actually October! It's finally starting to feel like Fall, and I'm excited to start using all of those Hiliday items that have been out since, pretty much summer . Also - Happy Birthday to any fellow October babies! This year is Dirty 30 for me, and after a sinful September for me, I may have to spend most of this month admiring your hauls rather than sharing my own :x ETA: I'm having a bit of insomnia and was surprised not to see an October Hauls thread already. If I missed it in my bleary eyed state - please let me know
Are you still able to earn points after you review a sample in your box from a past month? I'm trying to review my samples but it's looking like I'm only receiving points from this month's samples? Can someone please explain this to me please?
EDIT: This is the email I just received: Dear Valued Beauty Insider, We recently sent you a package directly from Kat Von D, which includes a Vegan Makeup Bag, a Tattoo Liner in Trooper and an Ink Liner in Trooper. This was sent as an apology for the experience you may have had with the 750 point Kat Von D coffin reward you recently redeemed, which many clients found to be disappointing in quality. We hope you enjoy this set of full sized products! Regards, Sephora Community Support Team ****** Yesterday evening UPS dropped off a black t-shirt style box at my door. I had no idea who it was from and I was not expecting any deliveries. This is my version of unboxing: 1. Just the tissue paper/before the reveal 2. The reveal/ It is a KVD looking clutch of sorts 3. Inside are two full size Eyeliners! Color me both surprised and impressed. I was definitely not expecting this gratis token/gift and I am pleasantly surprised! Hopefully other BTers will report that they have received one as well. Yeah Kat Von D for hitting a home run with this one. I am one happy client right now!

Whether you’re a qualified make-up artist looking for clients, or just an enthusiastic beauty blogger, social media is a great platform to get noticed. It’s a crowded space though. So how can you make sure you stand out?
Create a brand
It’s important to start cultivating your brand early on. This includes the basics, like a name and profile image; but it will also help to inform your content and how it’s edited. A good place to start is by thinking about your style, or what kind of styles you like to create. Do you love creating clever, natural make-up looks? Or are killer nails your thing?
Other things to consider might be colour schemes, tone, language, and (of course) your target audience.
Find your audience
Your target audience goes hand in hand with your brand – especially if you’re trying to sell your services. It’s important to know who you’re talking to! For example, teenagers aren’t likely to be interested in your new expensive foundation; and ladies might not care much about your excellent beard trimming techniques.
Different platforms attract different audiences; and those audiences expect different kinds of content.
Target your content
For make-up and beauty, Youtube and Instagram are ideal starting points. YouTube is great for tutorials for a full face of make-up, or an intricate up do – think about 5 minutes or more, with a voice over or you explaining what you’re doing. Instagram, on the other hand, has traditionally been used for photos.
However, in 2013 Instagram introduced 15 second videos; they upgraded this to 60 second videos in early 2016. This won’t be enough for a full face tutorial, but it’s plenty of time to demonstrate a cool technique or new product. The expectations for an Instagram video are different that for longer videos on Youtube – for instance, users are less likely to turn on the sound.
Make it personal
The top reason that social media has become such a valued marketing tool is the “social” aspect. Beauty gurus who make it aren’t necessarily better at what they do than everyone else; most of the time, they’re just more interesting, or more likeable.
Take Pixiwoo, for example. They’re a sister duo of makeup artists who have a huge online following. One of the sisters, Nikki did a make-up tutorial while heavily pregnant, and Sam recently did a video with her eleven year old daughter. They’re incredibly likeable, and subscribers get an insight into their business and personal lives through following them online.
How has this contributed to their business? Well, they’ve recently filmed a documentary for the BBC, no doubt because of their easy style in front of the camera. They also have their own range of brushes, which they often use in their videos (and led me to buying a few). But despite their success, they still publish regular tutorials and keep their Twitter and Instagram up to date, which keeps their fan base hooked.
Get stuck in
More important than anything that’s gone previously is this number one tip: get started! You can add new platforms later on, and hone your brand and audience as you go. The most important part is doing. It’s recommended that brand social media accounts post every day; more for instant platforms like Twitter and Instagram.
When you’re getting started, you might worry about having limited content to work with. I recently helped my friend get kicked off on social media, and we’ve tried a smattering of content to find out what works best. This has included some cross-channel promoting (ask your Instagram followers to like you on Facebook and vice versa); asking clients to contribute using the #selfiesaturday hashtag; and posting about what’s going on in the salon. Mixing up your posts like this keeps it fresh, and helps to build your online personality. It also allows you to find out what your followers like best, and can guide your ongoing strategy.
I am currently a high school student who is trying to snag her first job at Sephora. I am currently in the process of filling out the online application. The thing is, I have no clue on who to put as a professional reference! Please help by listing some people who could vouch for me when applying to a cosmetic-related job such as Sephora!

i'm a wee bit early on this one (4 days left in the month, not too bad right?!) but i'll be leaving at the very end / beginning of the month on a trip, and i want to make sure i get this done ! feel free to talk about new stuff, old stuff, the same stuff you did last month, whatever you feel enthused about and feel like shouting from the rooftops ! CHANEL autumn 2016 les 4 ombres (eyeshadow quad) . what can i say; i adore the colors, i adore how they work together, i adore how versatile this palette is. (and yes i use those dang applicators to touch up on-the-go and they did just fine ) CHANEL brow products: crayon sourcils sculpting brow pencil, and the le palette sourcils powder duo . i got suckered into this one, but i don't regret it. gives me a fuller yet softer brow look. i'm particularly pleased with the powder duo--i consider myself a brow powder convert now. REN rosa centifolia hot cloth cleanser. i've been using this one for the past couple of years, but reserve it primarily as my in-shower cleanser. so...it gets neglected. as a lot of you know, i adorrrre my NUDE omega cleansing jelly and hoarded up on backups when NUDE disappeared....well, i dropped a newly opened bottle into the toilet. womp womp. in an effort to not be psycho and diversify my cleanser use, while also managing to prolong my backup stash, i started reaching for my REN instead of immediately opening up a new NUDE bottle. and i really do love it ! it's so soothing, it really nourishes my skin and i've found it particularly soothing to my skin after a rough time-of-the-month if ya know what i'm saying. GIVENCHY noir couture 4-in-1 mascara . i've returned to this mascara after a year and a half of being a GUERLAIN maxi lash devotee. i still love my maxi lash, but the noir couture does gives me the prettiest natural looking lashes, which, in my opinion, is incredibly chic. i prefer what it does for my lashes after it's been open a week or so and is slightly drier, and i do think the name is a misnomer as i don't find it particularly volumizing (lengthening, separating, conditioning, though, yes) but that's what gives it this relatively natural yet undeniably alluring effect. CAUDALIE beauty elixir . oh yeah, i love you. welcome home. NARS audacious lipstick, kate . i knew i liked kate the moment i saw her, but the moment i actually tried her on, it was true love. a bold, slightly desaturated purple, she doesn't have the pink undertones that her sister fanny does. a truly modern hue. as usual, i'll add more below if i think of anything i've left out ! pardon the lighting. or....consider it "mood lighting"
sounds like we won't be getting IT in Canada Sephoras for quite some time, good job The Shopping Channel is showing us some IT love... Showstopper launches at 10pm EST on Friday 30 September! Will update this thread with pics as soon as I can.
I have struggled with dry, unmanageable hair for as long as I can remember (why do highlights have to suck my hair dry of all nutrients, why?!). I’ll never forget begging my hairstylist for advice and being told that I needed Moroccanoil if I wanted to save my hair. Since then I’ve been obsessed so I am excited to see Moroccanoil hair and body products at Sephora and even more thrilled to have gotten the opportunity to get the inside scoop from Carmel Tal, Co-Founder of Moroccanoil!
Tell me a little about the story behind the brand.
I was fortunate to discover an oil-infused treatment while traveling, which soon became our signature Moroccanoil Treatment once we perfected the formula with a team of experts. After experiencing dramatic results in my own hair, I embarked on a mission to bring this remarkable product to North America. What began as a single, revolutionary product that pioneered a new category in the beauty industry has grown into a full line of hair, body and sun care products, all infused with nourishing, antioxidant-rich argan oil—signature to the brand.
Dedicated to producing the highest quality, performance-driven products that provide a unique, transporting sensorial experience, Moroccanoil has grown into an iconic beauty brand in less than a decade. Moroccanoil is a reflection of what I want from a beauty company as a consumer: authenticity, effectiveness and ease of use.
Does your product work on all hair types? Please share any tips for specific hair types (fine, frizzy, damaged, thick, curly, coily etc.)!
Yes, there are Moroccanoil products perfect for every hair type!
For fine, limp hair, Moroccanoil volumizing products are fantastic for plumping strands and adding sexy volume!
For damaged hair, we have incredible hair repair products that will transform and restore your hair, so it looks and feels vibrant, shiny and healthy again.
For runway-gorgeous texture, our texturizing products are phenomenal–you can easily achieve effortless, windswept looks.
For hair that simply needs extra hydration, our hydration-focused Moroccanoil products provide replenishing nutrients to deeply hydrate hair while maintaining its natural moisture balance.
Are there any other interesting uses for Moroccanoil Treatment aside from hair? Our BeautyTalkers are big fans of the product and would love to know if it safe to use on their face and skin.
Our Moroccanoil Treatment is recommended for hair only. Our Pure Argan Oil from Moroccanoil Body™, however, can be used from head to toe—everywhere from the face and body to hair…even cuticles and nails! That being said, the development of our Moroccanoil Body™ and Moroccanoil Sun™ collections were natural next steps for us following the success of our hair care line, as we wanted to satisfy consumer desire for luxurious treatments that not only transform hair, but the skin as well.
I love the scent of Moroccanoil products! Will it ever be available as a fragrance?
It’s a possibility! In the meantime, you can indulge in the fragrance from head to toe with Moroccanoil Body™ products in our signature Fragrance Originale scent.
If you were stranded on a desert island, which three products would you want to have with you?
I never go anywhere without my Moroccanoil Treatment—an amazing multi-use product that works as a styling, conditioning and finishing tool!
I would definitely need to have our Pure Argan Oil because it has so many uses—–it’s great for the face, body, nails and cuticles! I add a few drops to my moisturizer every day—it has so many anti-aging benefits!
Moroccanoil Sun Oil SPF 15 , because sun protection is so important and this one features antioxidant-rich argan oil and Vitamin E that nourish and hydrate, while protecting skin from the sun’s harmful rays. It’s also delicately fragranced with a beautiful Monoï scent that reminds me of my childhood days at the beach in Chile!
For someone who loves your hair products but is unfamiliar with your body care line, Moroccanoil Body™, what products would you recommend they start with?
Moroccanoil Dry Body Oil in our signature Fragrance Originale is the perfect first product to try—it absorbs so quickly and weightlessly so skin looks and feels silky, smooth and hydrated.
Moroccanoil Body Buff is also a fantastic first product to try—it will transform your skin, providing instant nourishment and lasting hydration. The Fleur d’Oranger variant features naturally exfoliating orange peel that polishes away dead skin cells.
We have three amazing Mediterranean-inspired fragrances in our Body collection that transport the senses so you can choose your preferred fragrance according to your mood— Fleur d’Oranger, Fleur de Rose and our signature beloved scent Fragrance Originale. Fleur de Rose is a modern rose scent that embodies sensuality and romance, while Fleur d’Oranger awakens and invigorates the senses.
We’re excited about this new recovery system from Dr. Jart+. Calm sensitive, irritated skin or conceal blemishes and color correct redness with the Cicapair™ Collection. Each one is infused with tiger grass—inspired by the true legend of Asian tigers, rolling in Centella Asiatica to heal their battle wounds. Its medicinal use has been recognized for centuries, and for generations, the active ingredient has also been used to help support wounded skin with inflammation, redness, or blemishes.
A green-to-beige color-correcting treatment, The Cicapair ™ Tiger Grass Color Correcting Treatment SPF 30 helps correct redness and protect skin from environmental aggressors. It provides SPF 30 protection from UV light, and it forms a dust barrier to protect the skin from the environment. The Cicapair™ Tiger Grass Cream soothes skin damage caused by dryness, irritation, and inflammation. Both products are also enriched with resurrection plant, houttuynia cordata, and yarrow, to enhance the look of your skin’s viability while supporting strong skin.

givenchy is one of the luxury beauty brands that has a firm place in my heart. my first luxury lipstick (rouge interdit in 'pretty rose') was givenchy, and i treasured it. i'm not exactly on top of 'new releases' as such (though of course i'll share here as i stumble upon news), but i wanted to create a space for my fellow Givenchy beauty lovers ! here are 2 dated adverts from 2011 but i lovvvve them and and find them apt for the brand:
Hello there girlies! I made this discussion because I am curious to see what you guys received in your Sample Bags for those of you who shopped last week during the Beauty Insider Appreciation Week! It doesn't matter if you are a Beauty Insider, VIB, or VIB Rouge. Share what you products you received and post them down below! You can include pictures!
Im interested in hearing about your experience (similar to mine or otherwise). I placed an order Wednesday morning, received a confirmation email and the charges were pending on my credit card, but whenever I tried to look at my order history on their website, I got an internal server error. By Friday morning, I still hadn't gotten a shipping email so I tried to contact them. I emailed, I messaged on Facebook and I called ( no one ever answers, it just goes into a voicemail system) but didn't get a response to any of these. Now this morning I checked my credit card and the charges have actually posted, but still no shipping email. I contacted them one more time to say I've been charged but still can't get an information about my order. Honestly I'm not expecting a response and I'm thinking that by the end of next week, ill have to contact my credit card company to dispute the charges. So like I said, just looking for any experiences with this company. I've never had a company just ignore my questions before so I'm not sure what more I can do at this point.
This month, PLAY! by SEPHORA is bringing you innovative formulas and indie finds with a selection of the coolest must-have products.
So that has us wondering: What do you predict will be the hottest new beauty trend this winter? Tell us in the comments below!
Learn more about PLAY! by SEPHORA at http://www.sephora.com/play .
The latest trend hitting the streets, “nontouring,” evokes a dewy, youthful complexion like the effect of strobing. Only highlights are used to sculpt the contours of the face while giving it a lit-from-within glow and a more neutral daytime look. The fresh-faced effect is achieved through products with a neutral tone and a luminous finish.
Start with a shimmering primer for an allover glow. Next, use a tinted moisturizer or BB cream instead of heavy, full-coverage foundation for a no-makeup look. Finally, grab a highlighter and brush on above the cheekbones, under the browbone, along the bridge of the nose, and on the Cupid’s bow to sculpt and add glowy dimension.
Here are some of our favorites for creating shimmering nontour looks:
• BECCA Backlight Priming Filter is the perfect primer for that lit-from-within look. It creates a luminescent, lightweight canvas for makeup that acts like a diffusing filter for a soft-focus, radiant look.
• SEPHORA COLLECTION Beauty Amplifier Afterglow primer can be used alone to prime, mixed with a foundation, or used as a luminizer to highlight certain areas of the face. It creates the perfect, naturally-flawless base for makeup or can be applied on top to complete your nontour effect.
• Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette offers three flattering highlight shades with different tones to capture, diffuse, and soften light and refine the complexion’s appearance. Brush this over the high points of your face for a beautiful, youthful glow.

inspired by a recent YouTube tag I thought I'd start a thread here. My go to look was electric blue liner and mascara from collection 2000 with Avon iced champink eyeshadow dust and the same colour lipstick. I thought I was the bomb! Sadly no photos handy to share, if I can find one I'll upload but I hated having my pics taken These days youngsters have such better access along with tutorials that they can learn from off if YouTube. My 12 year old can do a fab contour and even perfect winged eyeliner! What was your go to look? please share a photo too if you have one! take care X
OK so there have been a lot of 'rediscovered products' threads over the years; but the ones i found were pretty old so i figured i'd start a fresh one. hope everyone is ok with that ! 1. NARS single eyeshadow -- ashes to ashes . this has long been a favorite of mine but pretty much neglected the past year or two as i was preferring more matte colors. but ashes to ashes is that perfect kind of shimmer -- no glitter, but a perfect brown-grey-plum shift that is alluring but subtle. i find this is a perfect 'all over wash' sort of shadow. 2. NARS all day luminous weightless foundation . i totally understand why this foundation has such a love/hate reaction. it doesn't always work for me. if my skin is dehydrated, in particular, it can be a disaster -- same with if i apply it too thickly. but when it works, it works so gloriously. it really does feel and look like second skin...unlike anything i've ever used. this sort of inconsistency doesn't bother me because i quite literally have on and off days with all of my foundations. plus, NARS siberia is my absolute perfect match. i'm glad i'm revisiting this one !
We are super excited about the launch of this innovative, trendsetting, and user-friendly brand, Natasha Denona ! The internationally renowned makeup artist is known for creating pigmented palettes with luxurious textures, as well as formulas with high-quality ingredients that produce a lit-from-within glow. To highlight a few incredible products, the ultra-pigmented Eyeshadow Palette 28 comes with 28 stunning shades that glide seamlessly onto lids for vivid color payoff and a silky-soft feel. The Face Glow Foundation smooths and hydrates for a beautiful, radiant complexion, while the nourishing All Over Glow Face & Body Shimmer in Powder leaves skin shimmering in champagne or bronze tones.

hey, fellow Sephora addicts! i have just started freelancing, and I'm having trouble finding a price to charge people. My kit is all high end, ranging from Anastasia to Tarte and everything in between. the only thing i do not have is everyone's foundation shade. I am still in high school, but i do have an amazing talent for makeup (not to be too confident but what can i say?). How much do you guys suggest i charge?
After searching for threads like this, I was not able to find one that really hit this particular point. If there is one, please advise and I will delete this thread with my apologies. Example of why I thought to create this thread: (timeline below of many BTers during a purchase process) 1. I want to buy a product 2. Wait, I'm not sure if I want to buy this product. 3. Maybe I want to buy this product but I need to know if it's a good product but there are so many reviews and I want a second opinion. 4. What do I do? Well... you come here! Run it by the group... and see what others say about using the product and/or what they know about it. Make an informed decision. Yes, reviews can help but I trust the people on the forums most definitely and if nothing else, I would feel like I'm shopping with a good girlfriend. Let's try it out ~ What do you want to buy but you need a second opinion before you swipe that card!?!
so i've seen Fall threads and I've seen and Holiday wishlists but we seemed to possibly have jumped past one of the best makeup oriented holidays of the year discussion wise. or maybe I'm just a little too excited this year and want to get the ball rolling. any ideas of what anyone is planning to be yet. brainstorming? anyways I thought i would start a thread. I searched the search bar and didn't find one for 2016 so I hope I am not being redudnat with this thread. : )
HO HO HO It's that time of year.... well since some sets are already coming out... What do you plan on buying or asking for this year? So far here's my list... I know I am missing some items! KVD Metal/Matte palette KVD Rock Candy Lipstick set (if out for the holidays) KVD lipstick in gun metal case UD Vintage Vault UD Spectrum 2 palette? (I think that's what It will be called) MAC Holiday stuff Bite Gold lipstick (If coming out) Skin Care and Body sets
