It's July!!! Time to start a new thread for all the amazing July hauls from you guys! Please post all your hauls, big or small, beauty or non-beauty...can't wait to see them all!! To start us off - here is a tiny sample haul from Dr. Hauschka
What makeup is everyone wearing today? Today I am wearing: 1. Benefit Hello Flawless Foundation in Champagne 2. Benefit Coralista blush 3. TheBalm Mary-Loumanizer 4. Dior Creme de Rose Lipbalm 5. Dior Addict Lipstick in 454 6. Benefit Creaseless Cream shadow in RSVP and under all this I am wearing Neutrogena Pure and Free Liquid Sunblock SPF 50 So c'mon now...confess!
ok, story time. are there any specific trends you took part in--or habits you too part of--only to look back and think 'WHAT WAS I THINKING?!'. it may be embarrassing, it may be humorous, either way--it's one of the more entertaining elements of beauty/makeup that we can only learn to fully understand (and appreciate !) with hindsight. in the early 2000s i hated the fact i was pale, so i was often a victim of the earlish days of the self tanner craze. i remember thinking it was MAGIC, only to to notice the next day in fresh daylight that i had bright orange streaks running down my calf. and you'd think that would've taught me my lesson but i'd just pretend like it wasn't there and continued on with it for months. another was the disaster at my attempt at a glossy eyelids (posted about more thoroughly in the 'what was your first sephora purchase' thread). and i'll add more to these 'confessions' as i remember more ! just to note: this is all in good-spirited nostalgic fun, and NOT to demean anyone's tastes or experiences.
OK, in reading though the makeup regrets of the past, it made me wonder if there are makeup faux pas that some of us may be doing and we are not even really aware that they are god awful. I need to know LOL. I will admit that sometimes I match my eyeshadow to my top - is this horrible? Like if I'm wearing a coral top I'll do a coral look on my eyes - not INYOURFACE coral, but say better than doing blue and totally clashing, no? I also own (although haven't worn in a long time) MAC's High Strung which falls into the silvery-pink category. It's brand new and unsed. YIKES! Guess I should consider adding that to my Back to Mac stash. So lay em all out here - and let's see if anyone is brave enough to own up to them. :-) I just owned up to 2!!
I know this may sound harsh, but I really dislike all drugstore makeup. I'm sure there are many products out that are of great quality, even better than some high end makeup, but I have never found a drugstore product that I have liked. I've tried primers, foundations, powders, eye shadows, eye liners, mascaras, lipsticks, lip glosses, and lip stains, but each product has left me disappointed. I've also tried makeup removers from the drugstore, but they also left me disappointed. Does anyone else dislike drugstore makeup? I've stopped trying drugstore makeup all together now because every product has left me disappointed; which led to quite a bit of money being wasted. I only get high end makeup now because I am rarely ever disappointed with my purchases.
A while back I had made a look using the colors of the stray cat that took shelter in my home, I've fed and given her water ever since. This is the second time she's had kittens, unfortunately the last litter didn't survive and from what I know she only had two this time but only one has made it to the barely opening eyes stage. She had them on July 1st. I haven't named the kitty yet, but here's a picture of his(I'm thinking it's a he) cuteness. Taken today.
Have you ever tried a shadow (or other color product) color that you thought would be awful and turns out that you love it? I recently got the Too Faced Bonjour Summer palette for the nice compact size and the Mermaid shadow color (I love anything mermaid!). I tried the color Firefly today, it looks orange in the pan, and it turns out I'm in love! How 'bout you all? Have you accidently found something fabulous?
Come and let everyone know if you've done a trade with someone or they've been an awesome TSB contributor! Let's give kudos to our BT BFFs! So a post could be one persons feedback on another, how a trade went, did they ship quickly, etc. and others could reply if they dealt with the same person and how their trade went.
Are there any phrases and/or words that you think are overused and are starting to bug the heck out of you? The one that is getting on my nerves the most is "curated". For example, "this makeup line was curated by our beauty editor." I just feel it's so over the top and pompous. Also, the word "sweet" instead of "cool". I actually heard a woman who had to be at least 75 years old using it. I laughed so hard I almost fell over.
I've been on the Ipsy waiting list, but still look at the thread. I thought we could have a shared thread from all the subscription boxes (including non-beauty ones likes underpants and lifestyle such as Wantable and POPSugar). That way we can live vicariously through each others goodies! (I know there are unboxing videos on YouTube, but I do not have the patience to sit through a five minute video about someone apologizing for the state of their hair. And I know there are blogs where I can see photos, but everyone usually gets different items in their boxes)

This is a second round of a box, so there is a HUGE variety in here, so much great stuff (thank you previous participants!!). Very exciting to start a box that is such a great mix to start with. We had so much fun on the previous train (and it moved so fast!) that I know this will be great! I would love to keep this train moving quickly, I am putting more stuff together/reorganizing it as we speak. If you want to officially be on the train, you do need to send a message with complete address to me! I am borrowing most of the rules from a previous train. BY AGREEING TO PARTICIPATE YOU ARE AGREEING TO THE RULES! ****NO RESERVE**** ****No Swatching items from the box**** ****ITEMS THAT MAY BE INCLUDED**** ALL SEALED ITEMS are welcome, UNLESS sealed NO: Nothing you dip your fingers in if opened NO opened mascara NO opened lip wands (the kind you dunk the wand in or things like stila lipglaze) NOTHING THAT CAN'T BE CLEANED or SANITIZED all cosmetic/skin care samples are fine ***Other: For full sized items, there is a strict one in one out policy for drug store items: ie: If you want to trade in a drug store item, you must be taking out a drug store item (Feel free to take out extra drug store items lol). This will ensure that this box is largely of higher quality cosmetics (While still allowing for some variety). There will be just a few drug store items per box *** For new mascara, dip lip gloss, you must tape them up so they cannot be opened/swatched en route. Leave other lipstics/etc untapped so people can see the colours. *Be polite *Don't keep the box longer than a few days (please try to keep the box moving in a timely manner) *All packages must include a tracking number, Send me (@Bcteagirl) the tracking number. *TRADE ON OR ABOVE the value of the item you took -don't take all of one kind of item, for example, if there are 3 of one perfume, take only 1 so that others will have a chance to try them - One in/one out rule for any drugstore cosmetics (which are limited) -post in a picture and/or text what you took and left -package things carefully and put things that could leak in ziplock bags **YOU MUST have a tracking number for your package, and it must be posted here! Once the train order is set, you need to PM the person who is sending to you your address right away, don't wait until the train is close to you! Put a post here stating you want to participate, and PM me your name/address if you want in! Edit: spacing lol
We've all been there...a bag full of unused or disappointing make up from the drug store, which I still like but without the ability to try before buy you end up with a lot of fails. Then you find Sephora and wonder, is the price worth it? You try a few things, you like a few things, you see the price tag and tell yourself: "Eh, I can go with ramen noddles for a week to afford this." And then you buy it. What was your first purchase? Why did you choose it? I always like hearing other stories like this. Share on!
I searched around and saw storage but not many vanities. I just got my vanity in today, I'm probably going to get a chest to store everything else, because these drawers are small! They also don't open all the way. This is my set up for now. Whats your set up like?
it just seems kind of serious and quiet around here lately. I am feeling a bit blah, with the heat and humidity, and reading/hearing way too much bad stuff in the news. So, let's all give a heart party for everyone on BT! A wonderful group of caring, fun, informative individuals who share many interests! I look forward to "seeing" all of you daily! Thanks for being here!
If you had $1000 to spend on beauty products, what would you buy?! I would get Tom Ford eye shadow palette in Orchid Haze Tom Ford brushes Hakuhodo brushes more NARS Sheer Glow Marc Jacobs Mousse foundation (i really want to try it) Bobbi Brown BBU palette Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette
Hey BTers! I decided to start at new haul thread for the month June. I love seeing everyone's hauls.Share what goodies you got this month. (beauty and non-beauty) Remember guys a haul is a haul big or small.
So I've been shopping at Sephora for a while and it's been my retail therapy. I love trying products and just roaming the aisle. My guy would go to another store while I shop. Now, he asked me about a cleanser and I was happy to show him a few that would be great. I think I've created a monster because now he wants more. Would this be good or bad news for you? On one hand I would enjoy having company sometimes and on the other the money we spent on his skin care would be less for my products. I know that sounds selfish but yeah, I think dollars and cents. He wants to go back next weekend to browse more products. Oh boy. What would you do?
So I'd like to maintain a board for the Canadian customers. A place where we can share our events, promos, problems etc. I sometimes see deals and info for Canadians and rather then posting a new convo all the time maybe we can just share on this board. I think it would be easier to communicate with each other if we only had one board to follow. - I recently posted that Nail Polish Canada has free shipping on any orders for a limited time. EDITED: Anyone interested in getting Tonymoly products you can contact them via their Canadian Facebook page to place an order. 5$ shipping, free over purchases 50$. I think they have a store in Pacific Mall in Markham ON Tarte now ships to Canada!
Happy Mani Friday! This Friday I'm back with another edition of Still Obsessed , this time with Butter London's The Old Bill . I'm a flat out sucker for metallic polish shades, and this one is one of my FAVES. It goes on super smooth and beautiful (this is only 2 coats!) and I love the shine! What do you think?
What are you rockin' on your tips this weekend? Do you have a favorite metallic shade? Show and Tell!
I was at a friends last night and we ended up watching episode after episode of hoarders which was shocking and frightening at the same time. Today I read a comment asking to see my makeup collection so I pulled out my palettes out of their respective drawers for a photo and realized I have more than I thought. Also I realized how anxious I was about my hubby coming up and seeing how many I own. needless to say, they went back very quickly! I'm wondering if this is too many or if I'm just sitting pretty. I do use them all save for the nars ones. how many palettes do you own? do you use them all?
I'm on vacation this week and am staying close to home.(I made raisin butter tarts for the first time ever yestarday!) Decided to go strawberry picking today. I didn't think 6 quarts (a flat) of strawberries was a lot... Until I started trying to use them up lol. Made a batch of Strawberry Cupcakes and just finished making Strawberry Jam (that produced 5 - 500 ml jars!) and I still have 2 quarts of berries left. ***drowns in strawberries*** lol
I thought I would create a series of discussion where we could all share our make-up stashes. This is just meant to be fun. How it works: Just take a picture of the stash mentioned in this post and upload to the discussion board. Feel free to tell us what you like best and included swatches. I know some people would love that Ok ladies time to share your make-up stash for your face. This includes foundations, concealers, powders, blushes, bronzers, primers, and illuminizers/highlighters. This is the 1st in a series of post I will do. There is going to be one for eyes, lips, brushes, nails, perfume, skin care, body care, and hair care. I must warn you… I’ve been a MAC addict for years and years. lol
I received the first sneak peek for Ipsy in my inbox this morning and figured I should share and get the July discussion going Sneak Peek #1 Everyone will be receiving 1 of these 2 items from bareMinerals Sneak Peek #2 Everyone will be receiving 1 of these 2 items Sneak Peek #3 Everyone will be receiving 2 of these items Sneak Peek #4 Everyone will be receiving 1 of these items
I was just looking through the "What Are You Wearing" thread and looking through the list of products I suddenly realized I very rarely use concealer under my eyes anymore. It used to be one those "will not leave the without it" items. It got me thinking back to a moment many, many, MANY years ago at a Clinique counter... I can't remember what I was shopping for (probably super double face powder because that was my HG back then. I think I was around 20 when this story happened - I'm 39 now for reference.) So anyway, the sales lady was trying to upsell me on a bunch more products of course (which, I was 20 and in college - good luck getting blood from that stone, lady) and this is what she said to me word-for-word: "Honey, you're gorgeous but those dark circles are distracting me from the rest of your face." Whhaaaaattt??? I honestly can't remember how I reacted or if I bought the product I went in for originally. I know that I did NOT buy any concealer though! Have a couple more to post but BT is being super iPad unfriendly lately! I don't want to open up any wounds with this post. Just hopefully dumb stuff SAs have said to you that you can look back on and laugh about now!
I know it's been a while since I was on here......but I just want to tell you the exciting news! I got into Northwest school of cosmetology! I'm so excited! I'm starting July 22nd. It's like I have one foot into my career goal. So excited!
that you can't stop staring at yourself in the mirror? that you want to take a bunch of selfies? that you don't want you work out/shower because you look too good? As makeup addicts, I think it's ok to be little conceited from time to time. That was me today. I haven't been wearing a lot of makeup in the past few days and today I was so bored that I decided to do my full face. I cannot tell you how many times I stared at my contour. It just looked so good!
