--closed-- Box of awesome high end items and unicorns, show me yours and I'll show you mine, lol. While I’m not “ancient”, I’ve been on BeautyTalk WAY longer than I ever expected and have made some very good friends….as well as been enabled into getting WAY more makeup, lol. It is getting a bit overwhelming and as much as I like pretty things, my style is more minimalist, so I don’t reaaally need 6 or 7 jars of Guerlain meteorites etc. To help revamp/reorganize my stash as well as having some fun with the awesome friends I’ve made, I’m doing the LUV TB. It contains lots of makeup that I love but never use, altho I couldn’t bear to part with any perfumes or majority of the skincare, so you ladies will have to make up for it along the way. Keep it classy, with high end and preferably new or lightly used things. No drugstores. Since it’s got tons of expensive items, I asked people I trust who are interested, so the box is closed. If it goes well, I may do another one next year when I've accumulated enough treasures. =P Expand below to see the rules, taken from the awesome roxystar4 and slightly simplified: Spoiler (Highlight to read) * Please make sure every item is in a plastic ziplock bag to prevent spills. So I'd like to maintain a board for the Canadian customers. A place where we can share our events, promos, problems etc. I sometimes see deals and info for Canadians and rather then posting a new convo all the time maybe we can just share on this board. I think it would be easier to communicate with each other if we only had one board to follow. - I recently posted that Nail Polish Canada has free shipping on any orders for a limited time. EDITED: Anyone interested in getting Tonymoly products you can contact them via their Canadian Facebook page to place an order. 5$ shipping, free over purchases 50$. I think they have a store in Pacific Mall in Markham ON Tarte now ships to Canada!
A while back I had made a look using the colors of the stray cat that took shelter in my home, I've fed and given her water ever since. This is the second time she's had kittens, unfortunately the last litter didn't survive and from what I know she only had two this time but only one has made it to the barely opening eyes stage. She had them on July 1st. I haven't named the kitty yet, but here's a picture of his(I'm thinking it's a he) cuteness. Taken today.
With the Rouge Event just around the corner, and money to be spent, heres my list! My current (it could grow) wishlist : With so many holding off on purchasing, and the 4x point reward, I'd love to see what people have their eye on or what they plan on hauling at the event! So....Whats on your list?!
Hello BT! Today is August 1st and that means another month of hauls! This month is the 2x/3x/4x the points for BI,VIB and ROUGE respectively. This is a great time to stock up on points lost throughout the year! Please share your purchases! Remember, a haul is a haul no matter how big or small!
Congratulations my friend!! A great accomplishment and a well deserved one. Thank you for all your "palette recipes" Anyone who knows her, knows how helpful, knowledgeable, sweet, funny and great to hang out with she is! Grab a drink and join m3rma1d's Hall of Fame party!!!!
Happy Mani Friday! Today's look is brought to you by NARS 3.1 Phillip Lim Polishes , featuring Gold Viper, a stunning platinum gold metallic. And because I'm nearly incapable of leaving well enough alone when it comes to nail art, I added Hell Bent and Other Side to the mix. What do think?
What are you rockin' on your tips this weekend? Show and Tell!
We've all been there...a bag full of unused or disappointing make up from the drug store, which I still like but without the ability to try before buy you end up with a lot of fails. Then you find Sephora and wonder, is the price worth it? You try a few things, you like a few things, you see the price tag and tell yourself: "Eh, I can go with ramen noddles for a week to afford this." And then you buy it. What was your first purchase? Why did you choose it? I always like hearing other stories like this. Share on!
Hello there, ladies and gents! Keeping in line with all the fun and interactive threads asking about your most recent halls, items you have your eyes on, what you're currently wearing, what's your hair routine, and more, I've decide to branch out and ask: "What's on your plate?" The beauty world doesn't just stop at skin care and cosmetics, it also goes hand in hand with your overall health and well-being, so with that, I'm curious to see what we're all chowing down and snacking on be it for breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert, or inbetween! For those with apps that help count calories or to those who just want to keep a log, here's a place to share, possibly find and share some recipes, and even tips on maintaining a balanced diet. Don't just share food items, but even drinks! I'm a huge fan of tea and at least have a cup of green tea a day (anti-oxidants) and drink plenty of water. For lunch today, I had: -Brown rice -Steamed egg -Steamed red snapper with green onion, sesame oil, and black pepper -Gai lan (it's a type of Chinese vegetable/greens) Now, tell me, Beauty Talk world, what do you have?
Are there any phrases and/or words that you think are overused and are starting to bug the heck out of you? The one that is getting on my nerves the most is "curated". For example, "this makeup line was curated by our beauty editor." I just feel it's so over the top and pompous. Also, the word "sweet" instead of "cool". I actually heard a woman who had to be at least 75 years old using it. I laughed so hard I almost fell over.
I have a pretty comfy makeup station and I do love me my products and I pretty much use everything from soup (primer) to nuts (setting spray). But I've noticed that instead of getting faster, I'm just getting slower and sloooower in my makeup application. I really enjoy the process of putting my makeup on - it's probably my favorite part of the day. But I feel like it's taking me a ridiculously long time to do my fairly simple everyday look (I don't vary how I do my makeup TOO much from day-to-day). So I used the timer on my phone for the past three days: 42, 50, and 52 minutes! Yikes! You ladies have seen my makeup. Nothing on my face should take 52 minutes! I know I take a long time doing my eyebrows - they're always a trouble spot for me. I'm going to TRY and speed myself up over the next few days so I can at least have more time to walk my dog in the mornings before work. So I'm curious...how long does it take YOU to do your makeup?
I searched around and saw storage but not many vanities. I just got my vanity in today, I'm probably going to get a chest to store everything else, because these drawers are small! They also don't open all the way. This is my set up for now. Whats your set up like?
Are there any particular products/brands that you are completely loyal to? Ever since I discovered Josie Maran's brand 3 years ago, I have not switched my skincare. That is really saying something, because I am a beauty product junkie! Also, I'm super loyal to WEN since switching to it over 2 years ago. What beauty products/brands are you loyal to and would consider your ultimate holy grail?
We swatched the new Marc Jacobs Beauty Kiss Pop Lip Color Sticks to see how the colors looked on different skintones. What do you think?

It's July!!! Time to start a new thread for all the amazing July hauls from you guys! Please post all your hauls, big or small, beauty or non-beauty...can't wait to see them all!! To start us off - here is a tiny sample haul from Dr. Hauschka
I just put in an order for the Marc Jacobs gel liner just because the YourGift code was populating a Acqua Di Parma Blu Meditterraneo Sampler Box of five of their scents. After August I need to put myself on a no-buy. '>.<'
Haha, I realize this is a beauty community but I got great advice on my last OT post so I thought I might try here again...
I'm dating this guy that I met on OkCupid and I find him unbelievably attractive. He's a lawyer (not an insanely rich one, but he does well) and we have a similar sense of humor, etc. He normally doesn't date girls under 23 (He's 28, I'm 21) but since we got on so well online, we agreed to meet in person, a friendly date, just to see what happened... Girrrrrll....lol. Ever since then we've been having a REALLY good time. I haven't seriously dated before, as in I've never been in a serious relationship/had a real boyfriend for more than two weeks, so I'm sort of new to this whole thing. I've just never found anyone in my location that i really hit it off with. My romantic life has always been limited to casual dating, most of the guys being in my age range. So this is the first relationship with a guy that I've had that has actually clicked and felt promising (on both ends)! The problem : He's older. He's more successful compared to moi, a dirt poor college student. He's sarcastic, snarky, and he's a lot more mature than I am. He can be critical, sometimes on the borderline of being mean. Not in an abusive way, but more in an honest, no sugar coating way. Sometimes I feel like he doesn't like...take me seriously, you know? Like he just thinks I'm some dumb kid. I realize it is probably not the truth, since he is choosing to date me and he obviously thinks I'm worth spending time with and pursuing... but maybe it's just me that feels like I'm playing grown up? Sometimes I just detect snark from him and I start feeling like i'm just embarrassingly immature, if that makes sense... maybe it's just my insecurity showing?
Other problems: He's an anti-love angry marriage hater. (Isn't that the way Katherine Heigl worded it in 27 Dresses?) he claims not to love anyone, isn't interested in being in love and never wants to get married. He says he has been in relationship, his longest lasting three and a half years. The only reason why it stopped working was that she hated the fact that they were in an open-relationship; she just couldn't deal with the fact that he was openly seeing other women and did not want to fully commit to just her. They lived together as well. I asked him why he chose to live with her and even be semi-exclusive- why be in a relationship with someone if you want to openly see other people and want her to as well? Why not just date and not be in a relationship? That comment above really makes him sound like a jerk... but honestly he is one of the most honest people that i've ever met. He doesn't lie and he always says what he's thinking, and he is very honest about what he wants. It's just a little...intimidating.
Right now we're having a lot of fun. My problem is that I'm falling for him a little bit. When he texts me, I still get really nervous and i get butterflies in my stomach. We've been talking and doing this whole thing for months and I still get really excited to see him. It's hard because I know the way he feels about love and relationships. I want to keep seeing him, but it's tough not letting myself fall for him. I don't want to fall in line with his old girlfriends who tried to change him, got angry that he wouldn't commit, etc. So in spite of that, I find myself doing everything I can NOT to be like them. I pay for dates as much as I can, I don't nag him, I don't text him every five minutes to ask where he is... I just find myself doing everything I can not to alienate him and repeat behaviors of his past girlfriends. I'm honestly not trying to get him to love me... I just find myself wanting to please him and that is confusing. This post is all over the place, but basically, I'm not sure if I should continue with him. While we're having fun right now, I'm concerned that I might want more from him in the future, ie: living together, wanting something more exclusive, etc. Presently everything is perfect & we're enjoying the honeymoon period, but I'm just afraid I will get attached to him and then in the end be hurt. But he is a man set in his ways and I don't for a milisecond think that I can change that, nor do I want to... So should I just continue on or cut him loose? It's finals week here at my university and I'm pretty stressed out. This is not making it any better!
Not sure what board to post this at, so sorry if I'm in the wrong place! I just moved to Canada and where I'm originally from, tipping isn't common. I don't want to seem like a cheapskate and tip the right amount haha, so how much do you guys usually tip? What is (in)appropriate? And what about low cost services like a brow wax, do you still go with a percentage or just add a couple dollars? Do you still tip for a service you're not all that happy with? Sorry for all the questions, I'm curious!
I haven't see a no-buy thread in a while, so I thought I'd start one up, mainly b/c I could use the support! I'm on a no-buy from now til...however long I can last! I'm taking a trip to Italy at the end of the year AND in the meantime will be taking the GRE + applying to grad school, so I'm trying to save up as much as possible for these upcoming expenses. And on top of that I've shopped like crazy this summer so I think it's time to just take my credit cards and stick them in the freezer or something. Naturally, I'm imagining this though: Anyone else trying very hard to restrain themselves?
I have been picking my skin ever since I was a teen up until now. I didn't know it was an ocd trait. I didn't even know that it had a name - Dermatillomania. It feels strange to put a name to such a habit that I feel is so hard to stop. All I've known for many years is that I have to stop, that this "condition"? was not only harming my skin, but my self confidence as well. Now I'm on a mission to let my poor skin rest and get back to health. Also apparently you can be addicted to sugar. I kind of already knew that I have one hell of a sweet tooth but what i've found just confirmed my suspicions. This habit (disorder?) makes it impossibly hard to stick to a healthy way of eating, which I need to do - in order to lose weight - in order to feel better. ( Not just confidence wise, but health wise too) I've just been stumbling into a lot of interesting, complicated and deep subjects recently. I should probably start (and maintain) a blog lol. What have you found out?
So I've been shopping at Sephora for a while and it's been my retail therapy. I love trying products and just roaming the aisle. My guy would go to another store while I shop. Now, he asked me about a cleanser and I was happy to show him a few that would be great. I think I've created a monster because now he wants more. Would this be good or bad news for you? On one hand I would enjoy having company sometimes and on the other the money we spent on his skin care would be less for my products. I know that sounds selfish but yeah, I think dollars and cents. He wants to go back next weekend to browse more products. Oh boy. What would you do?
I've been on the Ipsy waiting list, but still look at the thread. I thought we could have a shared thread from all the subscription boxes (including non-beauty ones likes underpants and lifestyle such as Wantable and POPSugar). That way we can live vicariously through each others goodies! (I know there are unboxing videos on YouTube, but I do not have the patience to sit through a five minute video about someone apologizing for the state of their hair. And I know there are blogs where I can see photos, but everyone usually gets different items in their boxes)
