Ok so it's way off topic but... A Florida shelter is closing it's doors and needs to find homes for about 40 animals (cats and dogs). Please check out the website life with dogs. It's one of the top stories called Adopters Needed for Florida Shelter Closing it's Doors. EDITED: If you can't find the story PM me I'll send you the link.
I thought I would create a series of discussion where we could all share our make-up stashes. This is just meant to be fun. How it works: Just take a picture of the stash mentioned in this post and upload to the discussion board. Feel free to tell us what you like best. I know some people would love that Ok ladies time to share your skin care stash! This includes everything that you would use on your face. There will be another post for body care. This is the 6th in a series of post I will do. Still to come: body care, hair care and brushes. Might do one with samples as well. For the new comers also check out the face, eyes, lips, nails and fragrances series. ************************************************** **** Really into The Body Deli! Love this company. It smells so good and fresh especially the melon cream I also like to try out new things and try to stick to natural brands.
Happy Mani Friday! I went simple and festive for the weekend with a red and gold manicure using Deborah Lippmann Red Silk Boxers and OCC Polish in Cruising .
What are you rockin' on your nails this weekend (and for the holiday!)? Show and Tell!
With holidays going on, I think stores doing a good job through the chaos deserve recognition! 1) Which sephora is your fav store? 2) What is it about this store that makes it so special? 3) Do you have a favorite employee? 4) Ever gotten a makeover done there? 5) Do they give you samples at checkout? LOL ************************************************** ******** 1) Sephora @ South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa, CA 2) I have 4 Sephoras around me that I could choose to go to but I love this place in particular because it's huge and always stocked and they never give you trouble with returns. Most employees are so helpful and nice too. It's in an affluent area surrounded by colleges so a bunch of rich people and students flock in here. No matter who needs help, they don't distinguish between the rich people and students and they NEVER get snobby with anyone 3) No I don't have a fav. employee (yet!) but that's just because everyone's so equally helpful and nice 4) Got a makeover twice here. First time, not so great. Second one was today and LOVED IT. Girl named Sandy worked on me today and listened to exactly everything I wanted. I have monolids and the last time they didn't do a good job with my eyeshadow, so today I just asked for winged liner. Sandy pointed at her own perfect wings and I knew it was fate. 5) Unfortunately, They don't just toss in samples. I've been too scared to ask for them too However, if you ask them to make you a sample of anything in the store, they do it with no hesitations.
I purchased the Benefit Advent Calendar through Sephora and as some of you know, I ended up receiving the wrong product on day 1 of the calendar (should've got a coralista blush and instead got the a-lister gloss). I spoke with a customer service representative from Sephora and they suggested I speak with Benefit since it was clearly an issue during the processing phase at Benefit. For the record, Sephora offered me a refund but since they were sold out of the calendars that was my only option and I really did want to keep the calendar. So I contacted Benefit. They immediately tried to pass the buck off to Sephora and say that it was their problem. So off I go again talking to Sephora. The customer service representative from Sephora was wonderful! She contacted Benefit on my behalf and offered them proof of purchase for me in hopes that they would be able to assist me. Back to Benefit once again, I spoke directly with a manager. I told him that I didn't want money, or a brand new calendar, or to make out like a bandit. I just wanted the coralista blush sample that they manufacture and that I should've got in my set to begin with.I had already e-mailed them a picture of my missing item and the item I got in it's place (on the day I should've got the a-lister gloss, the door was empty). I then gave the manager my order number from Sephora (to again, prove I purchased this legitimately) and I mentioned the Sephora representative who contacted them on my behalf. Again, Benefit claimed there was nothing that they can do. I told him that they obviously don't stand behind their product as there was a mistake on their end and they weren't even willing to make it right (I even offered to pay shipping for them to send me the itty-bitty blush)! So because they were unwilling to remedy this situation and wanted to hold on to a blush that cost them a miniscule amount to make, they will lose out on much more since I will no longer be a Benefit shopper. Sorry for the long rant, but bad customer service is something I can't stand and think people should know about.
Howdy ladies! After all the good deals this yr I've completely exhausted my spending and any reason to buy anything. I will be on a no buy until mid-Jan (if Jan really is skincare month then that means I've still got 15 days after that for whatever promo, no excuse!) My Christmas/New Year resolution is to spend just enough to qualify for VIB for the rest of the year , and I'm going to try fund most of it through Swagbucks/Bing Rewards/Ebates (PM me if you want to know more about those sites). With that said, this is a no buy thread for the first 30 days, a palate cleanser if you will, for next year. Anyone/everyone is welcome to join me. This is not meant to bash any particular products, but if you post then I'll give you reasons why you should delay the purchase, consider the alternative, or why you don't need it. I will keep all my disabling to this thread, so please, ladies, let's not turn this into an enable thread . =P Now then, will I succumb to exciting advertisements and fancy packaging? or will I hold onto my will power and succeed in actually saving some money?
A year ago I transferred units at my company. After working in so many different teams with varying personalities, I had no expectations of making friends at work. Then I met my friend, Pearl. The first time she invited me to lunch, she had just returned from maternity leave. We walked around for half an hour before she realized that the restaurant had closed down while she was away. I was 26 when I met Pearl, years out of college, and just thought that there was no way I was going to meet a new good friend--much less a best friend! To my very pleasant surprise, she is my best friend in the whole world. She's the sister I always wanted (and I have 3!) In celebration of best friends, show us what you're getting yours! I am off-loading my ENTIRE stash of samples to her and I've been helping set up her 1 year old's princess room by going around town for the perfect furniture pieces and commuting an hour to her place every single weekend, To best friends! They make champagne more bubbly and heartbreaks less painful.
Am I the only weirdo that will unlove something and the love it again just to move it to the most recent spot in my list? Love list wishes from Sephora: - make them like Amazon wish lists where we can have multiple and make them public or private - make it so we can make notes (again like amazon) - make it so we can choose a priority (again like amazon) - make it so we can filter by purchased or not purchased (amazon again) What would you like the loves list to be able to do? What other website suggestions do you have for them? - I would love it if when I go to a product page it tells "you purchased this product on 7/12/13 (amazon again -- sounding like a broken record). - don't make all the promo codes and point perks so hard to find that we have to constantly maintain and update a list on BT. If it's available then have a page that tells us that. Sometimes finding a code is like trying to find buried treasure and not as fun.
Thought I would try my hand at questions this time. Here goes... 1. Do you celebrate Christmas or some other gift-giving holiday this time of year? 2. Have you purchased anything from Sephora to give as a gift? If so, what? 3. Share one good thing that's brightened your day today (it's OK to say nothing if you've had a particularly crappy day). 4. What's your favorite mascara? 5. What is your ideal career? 6. Do you have any siblings (half siblings count)? If so, do you get along with them? 7. Share one of your favorite holiday traditions (if you have any). Here are mine: 1. I celebrate Christmas. 2. Not so far... 3. A text conversation I just had with my mother in walkie talkie lingo, where we addressed each other as "[work name] slave." 4. Right now I'm digging Sephora's Full Action mascara but I can be swayed. 5. Recording artist (preferably with my band) 6. I have a sister that I mostly get along with, even though she's my polar opposite in almost every sense. 7. One of my favorite things to do is go for a walk with my entire family on Christmas night to a particular street where everyone owns a huge house and the Christmas lights/displays/décor is insane. One house is so completely covered in lights it's dizzying to look at. Ok, enough of me. Let's hear about you!
I live in a major city in the usa about 2000000 in population and we only have 2 sephoras. And there quite far from my side of town, I wish there was more ! Anyone else In a major city experience this problem ? I wonder what there criteria is for sephora opening a store.
So I like to use make up brushes to paint with because they can smooth out oil paint and mix the colors really well. I don't like to spend a lot on these brushes because even the expensive ones don't hold up to the solvents very well. I really need some new brushes and was wandering if y'all have any suggestions for brush sets that are around $10 and have poofy brushes like blush brushes in them? Drug store brushes are completely fine too. Thank you!
As 2013 comes to a close, I'm looking at the 20 pounds I've gained since moving to the big city, and I'm not happy about it. Since I'm also getting my tonsils out on Monday, and my darling boyfriend is giving me a juicer for Christmas, I need some recipes! Are there any you love/swear by? One of the clients at the salon I work at mentioned getting your tonsils out can be a decent way to lose weight, mostly because you can't eat anything! (I'm not getting the surgery for weight loss, I had antibiotic resistant strep complete with abscesses so they HAVE to come out.) Also, any suggestions for a 2 week couch surfing adventure?
So earlier today I bought a new Clinique CC cream on the website because they were giving away 3 minis and I thought, what the heck, I can always use more CC cream! And I've been dying to try the Black Honey lipstick. BUT JUST NOW I noticed Lord and Taylor is doing a big GWP with a $30 purchase and I was like nooooooo I could have just bought it from them instead! So I filled up my little cart with about $45 worth of stuff and then went to check out and...THEY WANTED TO CHARGE ME $7.95 FOR SHIPPING. The outrage! The humanity! I could kind of justify spending $45 to get a bunch of stuff I don't really need but somehow when it came to $52.95 I found myself backing away. I think it was the paying for shipping that got me off the ledge - I just can't do it any more. Most companies have some sort of free shipping threshold and I always try to reach it, but Lord and Taylor's shipping costs actually increase with the MORE you spend. I ended up saying to myself, "I don't reallllllly need any of this stuff. Even if that free lipstick in the gwp is really nice looking. And the case is totes cute. But I don't need it!" At least not enough to pay $8 to ship. Unfortunately (or fortunately) there aren't any stores near me so I can't run down there and buy it either. Do you remember the last time you actually paid for shipping for cosmetics? Does it bother you the way it irrationally bugs me?
I received an order today that I've been so looking forward to...a sculpting palette and brush. Upon opening my "present" I found my brush in two pieces...um...it's only supposed to be one piece! and on a side note...why doesn't Sephora carry IT cosmetics? Wish they did! Oh well...life goes on!
Hey there gals! Thankfully this is not the early 20th century and we can discuss of feminine concerns openly and freely (whew!) So i recently received my first prescription for birth control pills and i was curious to know your experiences with pills, or any other form of contraception such as the shot or rings. Though i know every woman reacts differently to hormones and have read numerous reviews on the pills i am prescribed, let me know your successes and or failures and how it may or may not have affected you!
Why did I have to look at the sale section? Not like I needed anything and I was making myself wait til January to buy anything else anyway...but I couldn't pass up the Philosophy festive favorite set on sale...even though I just bought the set a few weeks ago and I've totally restocked for the entire year! Guess my sister gets an extra Christmas present! Oh well...could have been worse...there's lots of stuff in the sale section I wanted to add to my basket!
I was wondering if anyone else here does this? Tarte is constantly having 30% off and Stila has it's warehouse sales. Many offer free gifts on your birthday month, F&F, point rewards and free samples. I was surprised when Sephora added The Body Shop (even though it was brief) because they are always having 50% or BOGO online and in stores. I saw women picking up Body Shop products at Sephora stores and wanted to shake them and tell them to go across the street! Are there are any other product lines that have great deals on their websites?
Something I've been wondering lately. How much trust do you put in beauty vloggers/youtubers? A lot of them have the products supplied to them for free. How much do you trust that they're giving an honest review based on their actual use and how much do you think is promotion because they got it for free? What made me think of this is Haute Look had the Whitening Lightening/Dial a Smile thing available again last week. So I started doing some research and googling. There were a few very well known beauty vloggers who raved about it and said it was so fab, so wonderful, works great, yada, yada, yada, but they got it for free. Upon doing some further searching I found a bunch of online posts about it being a scam product. I came across a youtuber FromBrainsToBeauty who slammed the product as terrible and doing nothing for her. She even claimed how disappointed she was in some of the more popular vloggers for saying it was so great and that their claims were what prompted her to buy it. I knew who she was referring to and it made me wonder about all that person's other recommendations. Were they all massive exaggerations as well because she'd received things for free? What do you gals think? Sorry for this being so TLDR.
How long did it take you to get your first subscribers? And how do you promote your blog to attract new subscribers? I just started my blog a week ago and I know it will take a long time to develop a following, but I am just curious about anyone else's experiences regarding beauty blogging. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated!
In the tradition of BT, and because who doesn't love a good haul? I saw that beautytester provided Notorious November for us, so I wanted to continue with the alliteration...so many options for December. I debated decadent, delicious, divine...dangerous won out in the end because with sales all over the freaking place, it seems the most fitting! My wallet hates me right now Here's what I got when I went home over Thanksgiving weekend: Eve Lom cleanser (So many raves, so many rants...what do YOU think? I don't have an opinion yet, it's too early) Buxom Lashliner in Leatherette (My first gel eyeliner!) YSL Rouge Volupté Shine in Pink in Confidence (New MLBB, love this!) Dior Crème de Rose (Repurchase. Best lip balm ever, period.) Laura Mercier Artist's Palette (I agree with the hype on this palette, and I'm in love with African Violet, which you can purchase separately) Art of Shaving Starter Kit (One of the Black Friday $10 deal for my boyfriend ) So, what's on your wish list--and on your vanity--this December?
I wanted to start a discussion about VS return policy. I know they allow a max of 7 items to be returned within 90 days WITH receipt and they swipe your ID to keep track of it. I've worked at a giant retailer so I understand trying to keep track of returns without receipts because there are a lot of scammers out there. But why limit the amount of returns with a receipt? You are only going to get back what you paid... I sometimes buy things without trying them on because the line is long, or I change my mind later on, or I buy them as gifts but end up getting them a different gift. Even if you exchange an item, it counts as a return. I hate the limitation because I could potentially be stuck with this item if I've returned 7 items within the last 90 days already. I feel like if you have a receipt, they should allow you to return the item. I really like VS as a store, so I'm really torn with their policy. Sorry for this long rant. Has anyone else experienced this or is frustrated by their policy?
it's my birthday today my boyfriend is cranky, my big kid is moody and i'm babysitting. i kind of want to bury myself in blankets and hide in my bed for the rest of the day lol. hey, i still get a free coffee from starbucks at least, right?
This morning I woke up to snow and VIB Rouge! Last night I was in Sephora and they said I needed to spend 150$ more to hit Rouge, but I guess they were wrong. Also, we hardly ever get snow here and I hope it sticks until christmas
I was about to make a post and share with everyone but it sold out in seconds! I panicked at the price and just snagged one without thinking. $23 for a $700 dress??! What?!?!? As you can see, the dress is still being sold on Neiman Marcus for the full price. If anyone wants an invite to Rue, send me a PM. You cannot afford to miss these deals.
I just saw Frozen and it was great! I wish Sephora would sell palettes for Elsa and Anna! Elsa's song "Let it go" was probably the best song of the movie along with her building her awesome ice castle. I found the whole clip with the animation on Youtube and I keep replaying it. Also if you go to see it there's a clip after the credits of Marshmallow. The next Disney Princess movie looks like it will be Moana a Polynesian but it won't be out until 2018. The main character will be Moana Waialiki, a sea voyaging enthusiast, and the only daughter of a chief in a long line of navigators. When her family needs her help, she sets off on an epic journey. The film will also include demi-gods and spirits taken from real mythology They did release a picture of concept art and I read it will be computer generated like Frozen and Tangled.
So I'd like to maintain a board for the Canadian customers. A place where we can share our events, promos, problems etc. I sometimes see deals and info for Canadians and rather then posting a new convo all the time maybe we can just share on this board. I think it would be easier to communicate with each other if we only had one board to follow. - I recently posted that Nail Polish Canada has free shipping on any orders for a limited time. - I forgot to mention that The Bay will be hosting Beauty Gala's this coming week. You have to buy a ticket but out of the 10$ 2 goes to charity and 8 towards your purchase. Some counters give free stuff when you buy the ticket from them. You get your make-up done too at that counter I'm going and very excited about it! EDITED: Anyone interested in getting Tonymoly products you can contact them via their Canadian Facebook page to place an order. 5$ shipping, free over purchases 50$. I think they have a store in Pacific Mall in Markham ON
It may be a little bit early but I am already thinking about my resolutions for the New Year. Wondering if others are doing the same? Here are a few of my top resolutions: In 2013 I obtained a lot of makeup and learned application. For 2014, I want to work out and eat better so my insides are as beautiful as I try to make my face and hair. I am going to work a bit more on staying on budget. I can get lured in pretty quickly by sales and limited edition items. That will still be fine in 2014 but I will have an amount I have per month I can do that with. I want to "pay it forward" more, and just practice more random acts of kindness. I am surrounded by wonderful people in my life and I love my friends here on BT - I feel very lucky and want to share, even in small ways, with others. Wishing everyone a safe and happy holiday season!!
