Dior Addict Lipstick in 454 6. Benefit Creaseless Cream shadow in RSVP and under all this I am wearing Neutrogena Pure and Free Liquid Sunblock SPF 50 So c'mon now...confess!
ok, story time. are there any specific trends you took part in--or habits you too part of--only to look back and think 'WHAT WAS I THINKING?!'. it may be embarrassing, it may be humorous, either way--it's one of the more entertaining elements of beauty/makeup that we can only learn to fully understand (and appreciate !) with hindsight. in the early 2000s i hated the fact i was pale, so i was often a victim of the earlish days of the self tanner craze. i remember thinking it was MAGIC, only to to notice the next day in fresh daylight that i had bright orange streaks running down my calf. and you'd think that would've taught me my lesson but i'd just pretend like it wasn't there and continued on with it for months. another was the disaster at my attempt at a glossy eyelids (posted about more thoroughly in the 'what was your first sephora purchase' thread). and i'll add more to these 'confessions' as i remember more ! just to note: this is all in good-spirited nostalgic fun, and NOT to demean anyone's tastes or experiences.
It's July!!! Time to start a new thread for all the amazing July hauls from you guys! Please post all your hauls, big or small, beauty or non-beauty...can't wait to see them all!! To start us off - here is a tiny sample haul from Dr. Hauschka
that you can't stop staring at yourself in the mirror? that you want to take a bunch of selfies? that you don't want you work out/shower because you look too good? As makeup addicts, I think it's ok to be little conceited from time to time. That was me today. I haven't been wearing a lot of makeup in the past few days and today I was so bored that I decided to do my full face. I cannot tell you how many times I stared at my contour. It just looked so good!
I haven't see a no-buy thread in a while, so I thought I'd start one up, mainly b/c I could use the support! I'm on a no-buy from now til...however long I can last! I'm taking a trip to Italy at the end of the year AND in the meantime will be taking the GRE + applying to grad school, so I'm trying to save up as much as possible for these upcoming expenses. And on top of that I've shopped like crazy this summer so I think it's time to just take my credit cards and stick them in the freezer or something. Naturally, I'm imagining this though: Anyone else trying very hard to restrain themselves?
Happy WNW! Kris is back with some great travel picks for summer. Check them out!
"Summer is coming to a peak and we’ve got the travel bug. Whether you’re looking forward to roughing it in the great outdoors or going five-star all the way (or maybe a bit of both), these new items will help you arrive in style. They’re designed to provide a lot of options without taking up too much space in your purse or suitcase so you’ll look fab wherever your adventures take you."
Sephora Collection All for One: Full Magnetic Travel Brush Set
"This travel set has a double-ended magnetic handle and six different brush heads that cover a variety of needs for eyes and face. The brushes attach with a patented mechanism that allows for excellent control. Aside from being fun to play with, the whole shebang fits in a tiny travel bag so it’s ready to go anywhere."
Boscia Tsubaki Cleanse & Hydrate Trio
"This cleansing routine to go comes with a mini cleansing oil, hydration mask, and konjac sponge infused with hydrating clay. It’s just the thing for taking off the dirt of the day while rehydrating travel-dried skin. The mask works hard while you sleep to keep skin moisturized and ready for the next day’s makeup application."
Sephora Co llection Colorful 5 Eyeshadow Palette
"These tiny titans pack in five complementary shades that look great alone, but can also be blended together. Each palette focuses on a specific look or finish, but they allow for almost infinite combinations. Each one comes with a double-ended applicator/smudge brush and mirror, so you’re never without, and they’re small enough to pack one for a day look and one for night."
What's new on the site that's caught your eye this week? Show and Tell!
Inspired by my new love for the YSL Babydoll Faux Cils mascara 100pt perk. What products (makeup, skincare, hair care, whatever) have you received samples of or perks of that have become staples in your collection?
I've been on the Ipsy waiting list, but still look at the thread. I thought we could have a shared thread from all the subscription boxes (including non-beauty ones likes underpants and lifestyle such as Wantable and POPSugar). That way we can live vicariously through each others goodies! (I know there are unboxing videos on YouTube, but I do not have the patience to sit through a five minute video about someone apologizing for the state of their hair. And I know there are blogs where I can see photos, but everyone usually gets different items in their boxes)
I've always loved makeup. I took Cosmetology back in 2002-2004 because I thought there were more makeup lessons involved, but there wasn't any. I am tired of my 9-5 desk job and I'm thinking of making a big change. I'm 28 and to the point where I need the extra push. They just opened up the first and only makeup school in NJ; Robert Fiance Makeup Academy and I am really thinking about attending! They offer a "Journeyman" program, which includes freelance makeup and theatrical. What do you guys think???? Has anyone ever gone to one?
So I've been shopping at Sephora for a while and it's been my retail therapy. I love trying products and just roaming the aisle. My guy would go to another store while I shop. Now, he asked me about a cleanser and I was happy to show him a few that would be great. I think I've created a monster because now he wants more. Would this be good or bad news for you? On one hand I would enjoy having company sometimes and on the other the money we spent on his skin care would be less for my products. I know that sounds selfish but yeah, I think dollars and cents. He wants to go back next weekend to browse more products. Oh boy. What would you do?

We had so much fun on the previous train (and it moved so fast!) that I know this will be great! I would love to keep this train moving quickly, I am putting more stuff together/reorganizing it as we speak. If you want to officially be on the train, you do need to send a message with complete address to me! I am borrowing most of the rules from a previous train. This will ensure that this box is largely of higher quality cosmetics (While still allowing for some variety). There will be just a few drug store items per box *** For new mascara, dip lip gloss, you must tape them up so they cannot be opened/swatched en route. Once the train order is set, you need to PM the person who is sending to you your address right away, don't wait until the train is close to you! Put a post here stating you want to participate, and PM me your name/address if you want in! Edit: spacing lol
Has anyone downloaded the Summer 2014 playlist from Sephora? I had it but it got deleted so I'm trying to find the correct track listing that Sephora had listed on its website. I just need the correct track order they had listed. Thanks.
For all the beauty junkies out there: I don't understand how a woman can leave the house without fixing herself up a little -- if only out of politeness. And then, you never know, maybe that's the day she has a date with destiny. And it's best to be as pretty as possible for destiny. ---- Coco Chanel
A while back I had made a look using the colors of the stray cat that took shelter in my home, I've fed and given her water ever since. This is the second time she's had kittens, unfortunately the last litter didn't survive and from what I know she only had two this time but only one has made it to the barely opening eyes stage. She had them on July 1st. I haven't named the kitty yet, but here's a picture of his(I'm thinking it's a he) cuteness. Taken today.
Are there any phrases and/or words that you think are overused and are starting to bug the heck out of you? The one that is getting on my nerves the most is "curated". For example, "this makeup line was curated by our beauty editor." I just feel it's so over the top and pompous. Also, the word "sweet" instead of "cool". I actually heard a woman who had to be at least 75 years old using it. I laughed so hard I almost fell over.
hey ladies, have you heard about this super awesome program by Dior. i think more companies should have this kind of reward system for their loyal customers (hello Chanel and YSL, I'm looking at you). What is the Dior Diva program? Every dollar spent on a Dior Beauty product equals 1 Diva Point. Once you reach the desired point level you send your original receipts and the redemption form in to the address provided on the form. Note: sales tax isn’t included towards points and all points sent in must be within a 12 month period. Currently there are five levels to the program. (When it first started there were only three levels!): ■Adorable Diva (100 points) – you’ll receive deluxe travel sizes of Dior best sellers in a mini Dior shopping bag. ■Fashionista Diva (250 points) – you’ll receive the Little Dictionary of Fashion written by Christian Dior plus three deluxe minis for your handbag. ■Charming Diva (500 points) – you’ll receive a Dior charm bracelet packaged in a Dior couture box plus a deluxe Miss Dior Cherie miniature. ■Divine Divas (1000 points) – you’ll receive a couture inspired black makeup pouch finished with a little shimmer and shine and full sizes of Serum de Rouge in Rosewood Serum, Diorshow Browstyler, Diorshow Extase Mascara and a travel size One Essential. ■Lady Diva (2500 points) – you’ll receive a Dior Brush Set complete with Foundation, Blush, Eyeshadow, Brow and Lip brushes nestled in a black D-charm pouch and packaged in a Dior couture box. Also includes a full sized One Essential and Diorshow Lash Maximizer. ■Diamond Diva (5000 points) – you’ll receive a Dior Couture Accessory complete with deluxe minatures for touch-ups: Diorshow Extase Mascara, 5-Couleur Eyeshadow in Stylish Move and Rouge Dior Lipstick in Rouge Blossom. I can only dream of reaching Diamond Diva. lol. Cza
Have you ever tried a shadow (or other color product) color that you thought would be awful and turns out that you love it? I recently got the Too Faced Bonjour Summer palette for the nice compact size and the Mermaid shadow color (I love anything mermaid!). I tried the color Firefly today, it looks orange in the pan, and it turns out I'm in love! How 'bout you all? Have you accidently found something fabulous?
OK, in reading though the makeup regrets of the past, it made me wonder if there are makeup faux pas that some of us may be doing and we are not even really aware that they are god awful. I need to know LOL. I will admit that sometimes I match my eyeshadow to my top - is this horrible? Like if I'm wearing a coral top I'll do a coral look on my eyes - not INYOURFACE coral, but say better than doing blue and totally clashing, no? I also own (although haven't worn in a long time) MAC's High Strung which falls into the silvery-pink category. It's brand new and unsed. YIKES! Guess I should consider adding that to my Back to Mac stash. So lay em all out here - and let's see if anyone is brave enough to own up to them. :-) I just owned up to 2!!
Come and let everyone know if you've done a trade with someone or they've been an awesome TSB contributor! Let's give kudos to our BT BFFs! So a post could be one persons feedback on another, how a trade went, did they ship quickly, etc. and others could reply if they dealt with the same person and how their trade went.
"In the near future, we are going to be expanding our international shipping to start including other countries and in order to do this, we will need to start charging duty on all orders including those shipping to Canada. We truly apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your understanding."
I know there are many ladies on here that qualify as beauty addicts and product junkies and I was wondering, "How do I compare?" So let’s take a count (if you dare)! How much do you have? Foundations/TMs – Primers/Luminzers - Powders - Blush - Lipstick/lipgloss – Eyeshadows – Eyeliner - Multi-use Palettes -
I'm sooooo excited! I just bought Bobbi Brown's Beauty Manual in Barnes and Noble the other day and loved it. I just happened to take a peek at her actual website and saw that she's got a team of makeup artists that hold workshops. I was thinking...how am I getting to CA or NY for these?!?!? Then I found out it's right at the Bobbi Brown Studio in my State! (NJ) I didn't know this place existed. Just so happens that the Basic Beauty workshop is being help next Friday from 4-8pm. It's $200 ($100 redeemable in product) If any of you are from NJ and have the $, maybe you should come with!! I'm overly excited about this ;-) Happy Monday <3
I know this may sound harsh, but I really dislike all drugstore makeup. I'm sure there are many products out that are of great quality, even better than some high end makeup, but I have never found a drugstore product that I have liked. I've tried primers, foundations, powders, eye shadows, eye liners, mascaras, lipsticks, lip glosses, and lip stains, but each product has left me disappointed. I've also tried makeup removers from the drugstore, but they also left me disappointed. Does anyone else dislike drugstore makeup? I've stopped trying drugstore makeup all together now because every product has left me disappointed; which led to quite a bit of money being wasted. I only get high end makeup now because I am rarely ever disappointed with my purchases.
If you had $1000 to spend on beauty products, what would you buy?! I would get Tom Ford eye shadow palette in Orchid Haze Tom Ford brushes Hakuhodo brushes more NARS Sheer Glow Marc Jacobs Mousse foundation (i really want to try it) Bobbi Brown BBU palette Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette
Hey girls, So ever since I visited my guy in Ohio I have had a new found love for ULTA. The store is like Sephora of drugstore brands and some higher end brands you can't necessarily get at Sephora. I asked the girl at the cashier desk about why they don't ship to Canada or have stores in Canada. She was baffled to hear about this and asked the store manager. She too couldn't believe that we don't have the ability to shop in store or online from up here. I've tried contacting them and they keep saying they don't ship to Canada but never give me a response I deem satisfying to me. I wish they would give us the ability to shop without having to drive to Buffalo to go there. Cities like Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver ect would benefit from a franchise opening up.
We've all been there...a bag full of unused or disappointing make up from the drug store, which I still like but without the ability to try before buy you end up with a lot of fails. Then you find Sephora and wonder, is the price worth it? You try a few things, you like a few things, you see the price tag and tell yourself: "Eh, I can go with ramen noddles for a week to afford this." And then you buy it. What was your first purchase? Why did you choose it? I always like hearing other stories like this. Share on!
