For those of us that love lipsticks and have several of them, do you rotate or reach for the same few? I wear some more than others. And some have been neglected a lot (although they are very pretty). I thought of holding myself to wearing a new lipstick everyday for 30 days. Lets see how long this will last. with all the limited edition items that are released and the shark frenzies that follow, I'm interested in seeing what items my fellow BTers have snagged over the years that are now those coveted hard to find unicorns. Those beautiful things we wanted but missed out on. Basically, I want to see pictures of those Beauties I cannot have, just like I wznna see pictures of those hunky men in harlequin romance novels I can never have. Running to grab a box of tissues and some popcorn! Oh and as a sneak preview, here's my first self-deemed unicorn. This picture is from the Omotesando cosmetic boutique. The blusher in the middle is the real unicorn. It was only available at this one store location to celebrate its opening. I went in to snag one for someone else and they were sold out. See the sold out sticker? They sold out in a week and STILL had the darn set on display one month later!!! Why????
It hit me a few days ago that Black Friday 2014 would be here soon!!! I happen to just love love love Black Friday shopping. I am not a morning person, a total night owl actually, so I've enjoyed that the last couple of years there have been more stores opening late on Thursday. (I don't support folks having to work on Thanksgiving just so I can shop but I won't wake up at 3 am to be at a store for a 4 am opening - I'd rather just stay up and hit a midnight opening - just a personal preference). Last year Sephora branded their Black Friday deals as "Dealtopia". As in years past, they had some amazing $10 deals. Some were online only and some were available both in store and on-line. On-line, we were limited to two items of each deal, but many of us made multiple orders. In-store, some locations held to the two item limit of each deal, and some didn't and they let you buy more. What is always the great mystery for on-line shopping is the exact time that the deals will go live. I want to say that it was midnight EST time. Last year, the online shopping was a bit of a nightmare. Anyone remember entering the "queue" where you were advised not to hit the back-button, or refresh, else you'd lose your place in line? With some patience, many of us were able to find our desired deals. My local store opened at midnight and when I got there at about 11:45, I was about the 15th person in line. There was only one "aggressive" shopper, who was behind me, but went kinda crazy when the doors opened. She knew what she wanted and by gosh, she wasn't afraid to nudge you out of the way to get there! Other than that, it was crazy busy but nothing horrible. They had many of the deals sitting on the main front display, but they also had some employees who had rolling carts with some of the items. Finding that "one" item you just had to have was tricky if it wasn't on the main display. To get an idea of what the deals were in 2013, I recommend googling "Musings of a Muse Black Friday 2013" to see the great details she posted including great pictures. Captured below is the list of deals from 2013, as found on The Musings of a Muse site. In addition, I just took a photo of the ones I bought last year that I still haven't used or given away. I think my favorite $10 item was the Josie Maran set, which included her Bare Naked Nail Wipes (20 count) and a 1 oz. Whipped Argan Oil Hand Cream in Vanilla Apricot. I think the "hot" item was the Philosophy Purity wash. What was your favorite? Note that Sephora did most of their Black Friday advertising using Pinterest and Facebook. I do not remember how many days before Black Friday they posted what the deals would be. Do any of you remember? All I know is that I am really excited for 2014!!! Hey guys ! It's a new month so you know what that means!! New haul thread time whoop whoop!! With the sale coming up soon at Sephora I know you ladies will be hauling so show me what you're getting!! I'll add in my additions soon !
Okay I know this isn't sephora related but I have to get it off my chest. I just watched a secret deodorant commercial. It had two women in an interview wearing headphones. The headphones played louder music for the smellier you are. Of course they have the attractive (or in societies eyes at least) woman not smelling, but the heavier less attractive one has music blasting. Funny. Not. I wish I knew how to upload on my mini iPad but just look it up...I feel like that commercial was just ridiculous.
trying new products can be...overwhelming. do you love a product because it works ? can you tell right away if it's performing the way you want it to ? sometimes i'm so happy to finally try something and let my enthusiasm blind my actual impression of it (at least at first ) it takes time to come to proper conclusions ! particularly when it comes to skincare, but makeup too. so here's a thread where we can discuss our experiences while trying a product for a first time. it can also be a place that people can reference if they're considering a new product. right now i'm trying a sample of the REN v-cense night cream. i've only used it for 2 nights so far, but i LOVE IT. i love it so much i'm tempted to go ahead and grab it up, but i need to make sure it doesn't break me out over time (it contains shea butter which *can* be a breakout trigger for me, but not necessarily). it smells of frankincense which i adore, but i know for some people would be a turn off. i'm also checking out the VICHY aqualia thermal serum. i really love the CAUDALIE vinosource s.o.s. thirst quenching serum, and prefer the texture of it to the VICHY, but think the caudalie may break me out slightly (i also was probably overusing it...i was very enthusiastic). so i'm just trying to figure out which i prefer. how about you ?
As I walk the puppies, I'm freezing here in Florida. It's not supposed to be this cold here. Just wondering what the weather is like in your area. I see lots of areas seem to be getting inundated with severe amounts of snow, and I'm so thankful we don't have to worry about that cold fluffy stuff anymore. Hope everyone stays warm!
So I feel like doing my makeup, but it's raining so I don't think I'll be going out. That's not the point of this status though. What kind of music do you prefer on a rainy day? Mine goes from classical music, to the beatles, and of course - David Bowie! Edited to include the picture I took the other day.
I was at a friends last night and we ended up watching episode after episode of hoarders which was shocking and frightening at the same time. Today I read a comment asking to see my makeup collection so I pulled out my palettes out of their respective drawers for a photo and realized I have more than I thought. Also I realized how anxious I was about my hubby coming up and seeing how many I own. needless to say, they went back very quickly! I'm wondering if this is too many or if I'm just sitting pretty. I do use them all save for the nars ones. how many palettes do you own? do you use them all?
Now that the weather is getting colder (in most places) more of us are switching to hot tea, coco, etc. So lets share - who is drinking what (from teas, to coffees to even wines, etc), post a pic if you would like ; other wise just specify the name of your beverage and continue to enjoy it My husband woke me up with a hot tea for breakfast. It was Green Mint Tea - now I feel refreshed, awake but still not ready for this day !!!
With many of us talking about some of my favorite shows, The Walking Dead and Once Upon a Time, I thought I'd get the ball rolling. Put up your lists everyone! 1. The Walking Dead 2. Once Upon a Time 3. So You Think You Can Dance 4. Sherlock 5. Pride and Prejudice (with Colin Firth)
I've been on the Ipsy waiting list, but still look at the thread. I thought we could have a shared thread from all the subscription boxes (including non-beauty ones likes underpants and lifestyle such as Wantable and POPSugar). That way we can live vicariously through each others goodies! (I know there are unboxing videos on YouTube, but I do not have the patience to sit through a five minute video about someone apologizing for the state of their hair. And I know there are blogs where I can see photos, but everyone usually gets different items in their boxes)
Hello there, ladies and gents! Keeping in line with all the fun and interactive threads asking about your most recent halls, items you have your eyes on, what you're currently wearing, what's your hair routine, and more, I've decide to branch out and ask: "What's on your plate?" The beauty world doesn't just stop at skin care and cosmetics, it also goes hand in hand with your overall health and well-being, so with that, I'm curious to see what we're all chowing down and snacking on be it for breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert, or inbetween! For those with apps that help count calories or to those who just want to keep a log, here's a place to share, possibly find and share some recipes, and even tips on maintaining a balanced diet. Don't just share food items, but even drinks! I'm a huge fan of tea and at least have a cup of green tea a day (anti-oxidants) and drink plenty of water. For lunch today, I had: -Brown rice -Steamed egg -Steamed red snapper with green onion, sesame oil, and black pepper -Gai lan (it's a type of Chinese vegetable/greens) Now, tell me, Beauty Talk world, what do you have?
So, one of the things I like best about BT is our capacity for kindness and positivity. I know that whenever I have a question someone is going to take time out of their busy day to answer it and that is great. I thought maybe it would be nice to start a thread where people post appreciations for other. Like if someone recommended a product that became an HG product for you or if a thread made you smile you could post here to appreciate them. I think it would be a great way to celebrate our community. One note: I know that sometimes things like this feel like popularity contests, and if people are anxious about that happening here I will definitely take the thread down because that is not my intention at all. If this becomes a popularity drama festival it will not stay up. But back to positive! I vow to post once a day about something someone did that I appreciate and I challenge everyone to participate at least once. Appreciating people feels good! I'm gonna post my first appreciations as a comment rather than in this post. Yay appreciating people!
So I've noticed that every time I look at the reviews of a product there are at least a few unhelpful (sometimes they're a little helpful) but hilarious reviews. What are your favorites that you have seen so far? Here's one I saw while browsing through UD Naked Skin reviews:
In a market flooded with options, what has lasted the test of time? Bonus points if it's still your favorite/go-to/HG product. For me, I think it's Aveda Hand Relief. Either that or their Lip Saver. Still my favorite colorless, hydrating, nourishing balm. Both are going strong in the 15 year range.
With Thanksgiving just over a week away, what are you thankful for? I am thankful for my mom, good health, a job, a place to live, food, a reliable and safe car and that I only live five miles away from my local Sephora with wonderful sales associates.
One of Birchbox's LE seasonal boxes, A Vanity Affair. I have been gazing at it since it came out and have yet to pull the trigger. It's $100 (meep!), but if I hurry my slow butt up, I can still get 20% off. Thoughts? It includes: BY TERRY Baume de Rose – Travel Size Chantecaille Luminous Gloss – Lychee or Passionfruit JINsoon Nail Lacquer – Coquette JINsoon Nail Lacquer – Nostalgia Maison Caulières Perfumed Bath Oil – Travel Size MAKE Calypso Palette Rosanna Alhambra Medium Vessel Serge Normant Dream Big Instant Volumizing Spray – Travel Size SHU UEMURA Art of Hair Essence Absolue Oil-in-Cream – Travel Size Stephanie Johnson Tinseltown Gold Jewelry Tray Sunday Riley Good Genes Treatment – Travel Size Tata Harper Volumizing Lip & Cheek Tint TOCCA Eau de Parfum, Margaux – Travel Size
One of my all time favorite BTers crossed the big 5k mark. She is always helpful and friendly. This is the reigning Queen of Pink. With all of her new Jill Stuart items, she will reign a lot longer, too. Here's to Leah, and may she receive many, many more hearts as everyone else realizes how awesome she is.
Lately I have been going over my purchases and I noticed a tiny trend - I am obsessed with some things more than others. So what are your 5 things/products that you are obsessed with lately (it could be anything - from food to clothing to makeup, etc)? Mine are: - Skin care (Algenist, face masks, and serums) - Purses (bought 4 purses in one year, and continuing to look .. smh) - Starbucks (holiday drinks) - NARS creamy concealer - Bite Beauty
I saw a lot of people posting in the "Found in the wild New" post about Lime Crime now being sold at Sephora. It seems like there are a lot of strong opinions because of the controversy surrounding this brand so I thought it would be fun if it had its own topic. So what are your thoughts on Lime Crime now being sold at Sephora? edit: I want to apologize for creating another thread on this. I didn't realize it had already been talked about! I should of looked it up first, so again, I'm sorry.
it just seems kind of serious and quiet around here lately. I am feeling a bit blah, with the heat and humidity, and reading/hearing way too much bad stuff in the news. So, let's all give a heart party for everyone on BT! A wonderful group of caring, fun, informative individuals who share many interests! I look forward to "seeing" all of you daily! Thanks for being here!
This will be US only. I had a lot of fun [in a stressful kind of way I suppose] last year and wanted to see if anyone would be interested in doing this again! ❤❤ The Rundown ❤ Same as last year, we will be using elfster do conduct the exchange. It's very easy, convenient, does a random draw, lets you make a wishlist, and allows for the asking of anonymous questions so you don't have to wonder 'will they hate this color or not...'. You will have to add your address to elfster, but no one will see it except for the person who is your santa. Let me know you are interested and I will message you the group URL. ❤❤ Gifting Rules ❤ The minimum is $35 and there is no max. Now note, it doesn't have to be a single item that is $35. It can be multiple items from off of the persons wishlist that total up to be $35. ❤ Feel free to add random goodies to your box to make it more personal, not a requirement, but just throwing it out there that you can. ❤❤ Deadlines ❤ To Sign Up: November 4th. Names will be drawn on November 5th and elfster will send you an email with who you got. ❤ To Send Gift: December 12th. Gifts will need to be sent by or on this date. If you have any questions feel free to post them here or shoot me a PM. Thanks everyone! Looking foreword to it.
Are there any types of makeup you just don't like? I don't mean a particular brand, but just an entire type. For example, I stopped buying lipstick when I realized that I almost never choose to wear it. I love stains and balms and glosses, but lip color in stick form is just not my thing. Another thing I don't wear too often is powder blush. I wear blush nearly every day, but it's usually a cheek stain, because I think cheek stains both look and feel better on my dry skin. So do you all have any quirky dislikes like I do?
I just renewed my drivers license yesterday and made it a point to do it in person so I could retake my picture. The last picture I took had been unexpected and I had no chance to prepare. Fingers crossed this one will come out better. How does yours look? Any good stories out there?
One of my all time favorite BTers has finally achieved her long overdue Hall of Fame Status. She is friendly, helpful and a wonderful asset to our community. I know she's touched my life, and I am guessing she has touched quite a few of you as well. We all envy her amazing eyes. Please join me in showing her the love she deserves. Congrats, Meaghan! BT loves you!!!
