My prom is on May 19th, and I was thinking about getting my makeup done at Sephora. I know that you have to spend $50 minimum, but is that on anything you want, or just on what they use on you? Also, if I want to use that $50 to buy a Bobbi Brown foundation, can I have the makeup artist use that as part of my makeup? Thanks!

You've got lots of flexibility and they are totally open to your suggestions. I got a VIB makeover coupon thing so I went just today. I already have an array of make up and tools so instead of a makeover, I just asked for a sort of beauty lesson on glowing skin/facial contouring and how to do the perfect red lips and bombarded her with questions. I also asked to try like 5 or 6 different product on my wish list.
The lady who helped me was very open. She listened to what my concerns are and what I want, then gave me her opinion on what part of my facial feature she really liked and how to do the glowing skin, smokey eye, red lips emphasizing what I liked. When I mention the products I would like to try, she grabbed the testers and we tried them and together figured out what worked and what doesn't (it's helpful to get a second opinion especially on facial make up where things are not as obvious). Throughout the make up lesson/consultation, she listened to my feedback and we adjusted accordingly. I think she was worried I wasn't satisfied since I was making all sort of faces trying to get a detailed look of the make up and trying to remember how I should do them.
Of course, you can totally just say here's the product I want used on me, here's the look I want and they will do it for you (and she will probably be greatful cuz you weren't as bossy/nitpicky as me. ha). I think it's totally fine to bring in your own product (even brushes) cuz it's more sanitary and if you like the look, you will want to replicate it anyways and you've already got the stuff you need. I also think it's good to let them pick because they are stranger and expert so they might recommend something for you that you didn't think to try but now likes.

Hellos!
Typically, you buy a $50 giftcard as sort of your "reservation" for your appointment. That giftcard you can use to purchase what ever you'd like. You don't have to use it on the products the artist uses on you.
Also, feel free to bring in your own lipstick, shouldn't be a problem if it's a color you really like and they don't have a dupe of it in a nicer brand. c:
But I would make your appointment ASAP. Slots fill quickly.

Also, if I have a favorite lipstick, can I just bring that in? I don't want to buy new lipstick, so it might be easiest, unless the one that they use will be particularly long-lasting.
