Softest clarisonic brush head
Hi ladies, I want to get a gentler/softer brush head, because the sensitive brush head that comes with my new Clarisonic feels literally scratchy on my face. Maybe I am hypersensitive?   Which Clarisonic brush head is softest? I'm thinking between Delicate, Acne, Radiance, and Cashmere. TIA!

Skincare routine during a summer vacation
A question for my high-maintenance BT ladies.   I'm curious if any of you minimize your usual skincare routine when you travel, particularly to a sunny place for a week or more. Would love to know details, if you don't mind!   When I went to the Bahamas a year ago, I'd continued my usual skincare routine with retinoids. In hindsight, that may not have been a wise choice, as I did a lot of swimming/diving and beach/water activities, so my compromised skin was continuously exposed to the sun without adequate reapplication. Perhaps it's better to just forgo the usual exfoliation (retinoids, AHA, BHA) we do in our daily routine so that our facial skin is not as sensitive to the intense UV rays we expose ourselves to when vacationing? Do you guys agree?   I've also did some traveling around Asia a few years ago during the summer and remember forgoing all makeup and SPF on most days, because the weather was just too hot and humid. Everything on the skin felt suffocating so I limited my routine to just a cleanser and gel moisturizer. I'm pretty sure these negligent decisions are going to haunt me as I get older though...

Mourning my Clarisonic Mia 2
I was putting some new PC skincare items away when I noticed my Mia was somehow in the sink. Weird, since we had just gotten home and I don't remember knocking it over in the morning. As I finished putting things away, it turned on by itself and would not turn off (respond to the power button) until the 1-minute cycle was done. I could still switch from high to low power though. So somehow it must have turned itself on during the day and vibrated into the sink! I tried adjusting the brush head and plugging in to charge but it would flash, pulse vibrate and repeat, which made me think it was its way of telling me it wouldn't charge.  the response to the power button got worse and upon closer inspection I noticed that the grey rubber/silicone button cover had detached and was no longer sealed.  Water must have leaked in through the button and damaged the electrical components. And since it is more than 3 years old I doubt Clarisonic will do anything based on what I have read.    I Was devastated to lose it and I dreaded having to buy another, but I have been wondering how my skin would do without the Clarisonic because even though it improved my skin 3 years ago, I can tell my skin has been changing to become more sensitive than before. This was the perfect time to try something else so I went out and bought myself a large konjac sponge for $5. I'm hoping my skin won't make a turn for the worse! I have been using a smaller sponge for morning cleansing and have not had problems so hopefully it will work well for my PM routine as well.    i am a little nervous being "off" of the Clarisonic so it makes me wonder...who else has stopped using the Clarisonic after a period of time to switch to another cleansing method? What did you do and did you see your skin improve or get worse at all?

Q. What do you use with your Clarisonic?
I just started using the Clarisonic Mia and am interested in seeing what everyone does with theirs.   1. Which Clarisionc do you have? 2. How often do you use it? 3. What products work best for you? Cleanser? Exfoliator?  4. What is your skin type?   I hope something like this hasn't already been posted recently.

THANK YOU for your expertise
I just wanted to share my skincare success story...it's still a work in progress, but I'm definitely heading in the right direction! I definitely couldn't have done this without the tips and suggestions from the knowledgeable ladies here on BT.   A month or two ago I noticed my foundation was getting patchy around the nose and easily wiped off my face around mid-day. When I posted my problem here, I would have never thought it would relate to a skincare issue...I just thought I'm oily and there's really no way to fix it.   I was given a few suggestions on BT, I did my homework and went to talk to a few Sephora reps, did research online...and a few product mishaps and a few rounds of breakouts/reactions to new products later, I think I've finally found what makes my skin happy. I believe the root of my oiliness is using products that are too harsh/drying to battle the oiliness, making me even oilier. I have always thought I had iron skin towards combination-oily, but I'm starting to think that I'm actually a 3-way combo: oily t-zone, normal jawline/outer cheek, and slightly dry inner cheek. I was getting oily on my t-zone, but if I smiled a really big smile or wrinkle my face, there would be tension lines on my inner cheek. They're there when I'm moisturized, but as the day goes on it gets a little worse. Here's my skincare routine transition:   Old Routine AM cleanser - none (I shower in the mornings and only exfoliated) AM exfoliator - St. Ives' blackhead and blemish scrub AM Moisturizer - Clean & Clear dual action moisturizer or Benefit SPF 15 Triple Performing Emulsion PM cleanser - Soap & Glory face wash, Boscia Tsubaki Oil gel were recent ones before I changed my routine. I rotated cleansers a lot. PM exoliator - none PM moisturizer - Benefit Total Moisture Cream   New Routine AM Cleanser - Sum37 Miracle Rose cleaning stick AM exfoliator - none AM Moisturizer - JM argan oil light and JM argan milk treatment, infrequently the Benefit SPF15 on top PM Cleanser - first step NUDE cleansing oil, second step CeraVe foaming facial cleanser PM exfoliator - Paula's Choice 2% BHA liquid, once in a while with NeoStrata 5% glycolic renewal lotion on top PM moisturizer - Tarte maracuja oil and Boscia night cream   Since changing my routine I've noticed that the clogged pores are slowly getting unclogged...some nights I'd be using the NUDE cleansing oil and little sebum bits would come up to the surface of my skin. I'm currently dealing with a previously clogged pore which I think has come up to the surface but has turned into a pimple...but I'll deal with it. I'm just happy it'll be gone. As a result, I'm less oily during the day, my foundation is no longer breaking up at the nose, and my skin overall just looks more radiant, especially without makeup on.   I'm so happy with these changes and what they have done for my skin. And I couldn't do it without you gals here. THANK YOU!

If a skincare product turns your face red for a short time, what's happening?
Yesterday I used the new deluxe sample of Origins Serum and it made the area around my cheekbone red for about a half an hour.  I did not feel a burning sensation, but the discoloration was obvious and then went away.  Is this the serum "working" or am I having a reaction to it?  I used it again last night with no problems.

Thinking of returning my Clarisonic... Thoughts?
Is the Clarisonic terrible? No. Absolutely not. In fact, I do enjoy using it. Did it make me break out? No. Did it take away the dry skin that I wanted gone? Yes. (However, so did my light exfoliator scrub before that.) Did it make me feel smooth? Yes! Is it fun? Absolutely.   BUT...   A week ago I had to exchange my Clarisonic due to the body brush stopping mid cycle, wether it was low in charge or charged. The girls at Sephora were great, got it exchanged, no problems! (I truly love Sephore, all the super nice and helpful workers, and the customer service!! :] ) Yet, it's still doing it. I charged it for 24 hours before using it first. I don't drop it. I keep it clean. But the body brush just doesn't seem to like me. Now I know, easy fix, just charge it all the time. Fine. Doesn't seem hard... but for $200? Yeah, no.   The biggest reason I think I am going to return is because I noticed fine red lines that upon searching are called Capilliers? I've NEVER had these pop up, and now from reading I understand only lasor surgery can treat them? What? I didn't press down with the Clarisonic, barely feeling a tickle.   I'm really at a hard place, because I want to love it, but I am afraid to cause permanent damage. I have very sensitive skin, this also being proven by the array of cleaning  products that I have bought and returned.   Anyone else have any of the same or comparable experiences with the Clarisonic?

What's your nightly skincare routine?
What's your nightly, skincare routine? Feel free to ask me any questions about any of the products I use or reasons why I use them!   About me: Soon to be 28, Upstate NY climate, combo skin that's becoming more "normal".   Night routine:   Cleanser: I switch it up between GlamGlow "Youthcleanse", Ole Henriksen and Cliniques green bottle. I use to use Murad and I loved it! I think I'm going to buy some more because I don't think I quite using it for any reason.   Essence: Yes,this is an Asian skincare step, feel free to ask if you're not sure what I'm talking about. Missha's "Time Revolution".   Toner: Biologique Recherché famous "Lotion P50" , phenol free version. When I feel like I need more Salicylic acid, I will apply Clinique's "Acne Solutions Clarifying Toner" on top of the BR "lotion P50"   Serum: Algenist "Genius C Serum" around eyes and whole forehead. Ole Henriksen "Truth Serum" on my cheeks, chin and nose. Algenist= super expense but awesome with the wrinkles/lines. Ole Henriksen- super plumping, evens out skin tone, but not great for lines . Retinol: 2-3x a week I skip the Genius C Serum and use Paula's Choice "1% retinol" mixed with my moisturizer. I read somewhere that the Retinol and Vitamin C Serum work effectively at different PH levels, so in order to not cancel them out, you shouldn't use them together. No idea if this is true but I'm not going to experiment when Algenist's Genius serum is $115 an oz.   Moisturizer: Cerave PM- hyaluronic acid, ceramides and niacinimide- yeah, all for less than $15 a bottle. LOVE. In the winter, I layer Nature Republics "Super Aqua Max Combination Watery Cream" on top of my moisturizer. I will also use this alone during the summer time when I need cooling hydration.

PocketDerm - Online Dermatology for Anti-aging and Acne!
I recently shared a bargain on the Deals thread for PocketDerm, a service I started using recently. I know several BT members were curious about it, so I'm starting this thread to share my experience, my ongoing results, and so on. Feel free to ask questions, chime in if you're using PocketDerm, and share your experiences and results if you decide to start!     My PocketDerm Discovery Spoiler (Highlight to read) I was reading the FutureDerm blog which often has posts about teledermatology (dermatologists practicing remotely, using patient-supplied photos to diagnose and prescribe), and I became curious and went on a Google jag (anyone else do this?). I stumbled upon a Reddit AMA with the founders of PocketDerm-- two dermatologists who seemed determined to make dermatology more accessible. I thought the idea was brilliant, so I checked out the site.   I attempted to sign up, but it wasn't available in my state yet (the dermatologists need to acquire licensure in every state in which they offer services). I requested that PocketDerm contact me when it was available in Virginia, and I received notification six months later. I signed up without hesitation. I signed up without hesitation.   How PocketDerm Works Spoiler (Highlight to read) In the beginning, you must choose from either Acne treatment or Anti-Aging treatment; if you feel you require both, PocketDerm recommends subscribing to  the Acne treatment service and talking with your assigned dermatologist about making your prescription reflect your interest in anti-aging as well. You submit a minimum of three photos of your face: two profile shots, and face-forward shot.  You complete a personal history, outlining your current medications, skin care routine, previous use of dermatological prescriptions, and any concerns you may have. Your dermatologist looks at your photos, requests more if necessary, asks questions, and either prescribes a PocketDerm medication or sends an Rx to your pharmacy. You submit new photos every 90 days. You can contact your dermatologist with any questions you have along the way. You can customize shipment frequency to your specifications. It costs $20 a month (billed $60 every three months) to cover a formal consultation, all questions and troubleshooting, and a customized medication. It costs a different amount if you'd prefer only the consultation and the Rx from your pharmacy. I have to say that I abuse her! What I mean is, I contact her a lot. Anytime I'm interested in a new product, I consult her about whether it will work with my medication. She is so helpful!   I initially told her I had been using Paula's Choice 1% Retinol, so she started me on a higher percentage of tretinoin to start. The formula was very gentle, but I still started by applying it every other night to work up my tolerance. My skin took to the medication like a champ, and I requested a tretinoin boost the very next consultation. I'm at 0.07% now, and my skin is very happy!   So far, with my five months of using their medication, I have noticed a reduction in fine lines. It's not drastic, but it's definite. More results than I've seen from any other anti-aging product. I even noticed a reduction in blemishes and scars, and when I do get the occasional (hormonal) pimple, it heals quickly.   I'm definitely sticking with this stuff. Exfoliating Powders!
I really love to use exfoliating cleansers. I truly loved, loved, loved the Laura Mercier, Flawless Skin Face Polish, and gave used it for about 4 years.  I was so very disappointed that it has been discontinued.  I would like to know, has this product only been discontinued in the Sephora stores or by Laura Mercier completely?   When I found out I could no longer get this product I started looking around on this web site and I found, "exfoliating powders", there were only a few of these powders but they were quite pricy!  Then I found the Sephora brand...Metamorphosis Exfoliating Powder, only to find out that this has been discontinued!  I bought one of the jars, immediately went home and tried it, then went back and bought 3 more jars and if I see a jar in the stores ever again, I will buy it until they are completely gone from the stores!   This powder is so great!  You can mix it with your regular cleanser and you can even mix it with a little bit of water!  It is even better than the Laura Mercier product that I used for so long.  Now I have to find another exfoliating product!  I'm guessing that these 2 products are being discontinued because of poor sales...that's just to bad...they were so good!

I have combination/oily/sensitive skin and my chin gets easily congested (I know it's hormonal based and I am taking birth control for it, but it still gets congested). I can get cystic pimples pretty easily there. After using it for 3-4 days at night only, I've been getting a pretty bad reaction to it. My whole face burns, and bumps are appearing on my face with some white heads too. The area around my lips also became super dry. Anyone else have this kind of reaction to it? I've also been trying Thirstycleanse and that hasn't given me any reaction at all, it's quite nice actually.

I don't think you should get the Supermud mask since it contains many of the same ingredients that the cleanser has. They even smell the same. I think you should get a s... see post
Sunday Riley Good Genes? Can dark skin tone use high % of lactic acid (40%)
I have been using Sunday Riley luna sleeping oil for almost 2 months now, and I really like it. Now I am interested in trying Sunday Riley Good genes. I heard it work well with Luna. However I also heard that deeper skin tone should not use gycolic or lactic peel. My skin tone is tan-dark, and since Good Genes is 40% lactic acid, I am wondering if I can still use it.  I combination skin type which tends to be really oily during the summer. My skin is not sensitive

New Glamglow FLASHMUD mask to be released this summer!!!
New GlamGlow Flashmud mask to be released this summer in June according to the sneak peak/tease that was posted on their facebook page!!!   UPDATE!!! GlamGlow facebook page just posted a link to a InStyle dot com  review on this product.   Some of the things they wrote are:   "Flashmud is jam-packed with potent ingredients like white birch leaf, white wild rose flower, lactic acid derived from sugarcane, and white peony root among many other glow-inducing actives, which give an immediate luminous effect as soon as you wash the mask off."   "The mud itself has tiny exfoliating granules blended into the formula, which act as a pre-mask scrub; you can literally work the mud in circular motions on your face to open your pores and allow more ingredients to be absorbed, then allow your complexion to soak in its magic for 10 minutes"     What are your thoughts ?

GIVE YOURSELF A FACIAL (COLD WEATHER EDITION)
ok, so i've been thinking of what 'angle' to take for this thread. i'm not talking anything too hardcore, here. but i figured it could be a thread that inspires and informs the little "treats" we can give to our skin with the products a lot of us have at home.   with the massive shift in weather this past week, my skin freaked out. it was so, so thirsty, as the cool air mixed with dry blasts of hot hair sucked all the moisture out. it was a double whammy for me because this cold front coincided with my skin's most vulnerable time of the month (if ya catch my drift).   so when i got home from work yesterday, i...got to work. i wanted to hydrate hydrate hydrate, and soooothe. this is what i used:     took makeup off with a balm. shown here is my usual clinique take the day off balm--i ended up using my boots botanics balm as it's just a bit more rich, which is what i wanted for these purposes. any balm would do though ! removed with warm water and a washcloth. dried skin then second cleansed with an oily non-foamy cleanser. my current FAVORITE cleanser, NUDE  omega jelly. god i love it. massaged for a couple minutes then rinsed. (not pictured, but) i think did a VERY LIGHT exfoliation to ensure my skin was rid of any dead skin hanging about after being dried out. i used AVEDA botanical kinetics exfoliant (a liquid with salicylic acid) PETER THOMAS ROTH cucumber mask. what i love about this mask is how soothing it is. it's NOT hardcore. i put this on then proceeded to watch a movie or something. you can leave it on for as long as you'd like. i think i had it on for 30-45 minutes. then i took it off with lukewarm water and a wash cloth. my skin already felt so. much. better. i then used my new murad hydrating toner. i could've used this before the mask. but what's cool about it is that it helps your skin retain moisture as well as help balance pH levels. but any sort of hydrating toner / floral spritz would do. (caudalie beauty elixir, a rose water, etc) serum. i wanted to use a "hydra" serum--any sort of serum that helps with retaining water. i used this vichy aqualia thermal. caudalie s.o.s thirst quenching serum is also fantastic. oil -- i used my beloved clarins blue orchid oil. i put it on my drier cheeks, but actually...i also used it for a bit of spot treatment. i was getting a pimple below my lip, and now, no more pimple ! moisturizer. as my skin was severely dehydrated (rather than dry) i used my aveda botanical kinetics moisturizer: the first ingredient is water (hydrating) and the second ingredient is aloe (soothing).  hours later i spritzed some beauty elixir and applied more moisturizer before bed. and today my skin is back to normal !!   so...this is a sort of routine you can loosely follow (plug in whatever products into the steps) if you're skin is needing a bit of help with feeling tight / dry / thirsty.   i'd like this to be a sort of thread people can use for a reference to see others' product recommendations or methods. all skins are different, so what are your tricks ?

Cleansing Milk Showdown!! What's your fav?
Skin story: Oily T-zone, but since Im prone to acne, I tend to overindulge in cleansers/creams (w/ Salicylic acid) that leave my skin crazy dry. To combat my mistakes in life, I rely on cleansing milks to remove my makeup and leave my skin soft and moisturized.    I used to be an avid user of boascia's cleansing milk, but that line got discontinued. I then started using sephora soothing milk cleanser. It was ok.. but I wasn't in love. Now I'm searching for a new milk cleanser. Below are what I'm considering. What's your vote? What other suggestions do you have?   Candidates: Ren ever calm, Clinque cleansing milk, Caudalie, Bliss clog dissolving.   ***needs to remove make up and moisturized skin.   Thanks! xx
