My latest skincare obsession..I absolutely love this stuff! The pumpkin mask came as part of a set of 3 masks that included a cell-renewing rose mask and a cucumber mask. Honestly the others aren't nearly as effective and if I'd known the pumpkin mask was so good I would've just purchased it alone. Nevertheless at the time the bundle was on sale for like $35 which was a great value because each mask was 1.7oz. Anyway, no store-bought item has ever felt this way on my face! I use the pumpkin mask once a week after cleaning my face and I get this amazing tingle similar to when I have a clinical peel done on my face. Not to mention the exfoliating properties are amazing considering there's no need for you to do this aggressive scrubbing to your face. I smooth it on, leave it for about 5 minutes and wash it off. My face instantly feels smoother, cleaner and looks clearer. I follow up immediately with moisturizer or I'll use the cucumber mask afterwards if my face feels a little tender. I was thinking maybe it might not be so great for someone with sensitive skin but overall I think it's amazing for someone like me who wears makeup everyday, has oily skin and enlarged & clogged pores. I hope this product never gets discontinued...did I mention it really smells like pumpkin!!
i've seen this type of question asked more generally, but i wanted to ask it specific to skincare. not only is it interesting to see what has really worked for people, but it'll maybe highlight some products others are interested in trying ! so: what are specific products that would cause you to hyperventilate were you to run out ? mine currently are: cleansers CLINIQUE take the day off cleansing balm NUDE SKINCARE perfect cleanse omega cleansing jelly toners (acids & hydrating) FIRST AID BEAUTY facial radiance pads (AHA) AVEDA botanical kinetics exfoliant (BHA) CAUDALIE beauty elixir (moisture) MURAD essential-c toner (moisture) oils and serums CLARINS blue orchid facial oil VICHY aqualia thermal serum (serum for dehydration) moisturizers AVEDA botanical kinetics hydrating face lotion masks (i like to have an arsenal for different purposes) REN glycol lactic radiance renewal mask (resurfacing) OLE HENRIKSEN lemon strip flash peel (resurfacing: hardcore) PETER THOMAS ROTH cucumber mask (hydrating / soothing; great for summer) FIRST AID BEAUTY ultra repair instant oatmeal mask (hydrates /soothes; fantastic for winter) FIRST AID BEAUTY skin rescue purifying mask w/ red clay (deep cleaning) additionally, a couple products that may reach HG status soon, but need more time in my rotation: TATA HARPER replenishing nutrient complex (oil) TATCHA cleansing oil can't believe i'm saying this but: it broke me out ???? or it was unlucky timing, but i'm too scared to keep using it. NUDE SKINCARE miracle mask (exfoliating / brightening) to be fair...i think this is a LOT to be considered truly HG. but you guys know i have a lot of steps in my daily routine, and these are tried-and-true loves of mine ! edited 2/8/15
Around this past Christmas and Black Friday I spent several hundred dollars on vamping up my skincare routine, I bought lots of sets from Sephora as well as a few other companies, one of the biggest product regrets I had was changing my eye makeup remover. I tried one from Sephora, one from Caudalie, one from Fresh and I absolutely hated them all. I just ended up going back to my original form of removal which is coconut oil. However, I hate this too because its such a big jar. Sigh. Anyone else have product nightmare stories they want to share? doesn't necessarily have to be skincare, my second biggest regret purchase was the Benefit They're Real Mascara.
with the popularity of the "skincare regrets" thread, i thought i'd make a post discussing "gateway" products that contributed to your learning what your skin likes. i have a few. for cleanser, the BOOTS botanics hot cloth balm was a revelation for me because it was the first time i tried a balm cleanser--and essentially any sort of cleanser that didn't leave my skin tight and stripped. it completely shifted my perspective of approaching skincare as skin care rather than skin punish . the AVEDA botanical kinetics exfoliant was my first acid toner i used after cleansing / before moisturizer and i saw a marked improvement. i now use primarily AHAs rather than the BHA (salicylic acid) that is in the AVEDA, but upon my first purchase i didn't even really know the difference. i was soon down the rabbit hole that is skincare and lastly, KIEHL'S midnight recovery concentrate was the first facial oil i'd ever used. it taught me my skin liked oils--and i stopped searching for only oil-free products. i woke up with skin feeling supple and i thought "ohhhhh" . i also applied it directly to a in-the-skin-never-completely-goes-away spot on my chin. within 2 hours it came to a head and i never saw it again. this eventually led me to my beloved CLARINS blue orchid oil. and the rest is history. how about you ?
So I was looking on the Foreo website about their products, and stumbled upon their Luxe and Platinum versions...for $6,500 and $8,800, respectively!!! I couldn't believe it! What is the most ridiculous beauty product you have seen? EDIT: should say FOREO..maybe I'm in a golfing mood! lol
What products have surprised you in their ability to out perform the big guns? I received samples of both the Shiseido Benefiance and PTR Complete eye creams and did a side-by-side test for two weeks - one on each eye. To my complete surprise, the PTR blew the Benefiance away. And to think I took the PTR to make the rep happy... I suspect it will be my next eye cream purchase once I run out of my OH.
I just think it would be fun to share our Holy Grail skincare products. Name 3 skincare products that would use for the rest of your life. What benefits did you get from using them. It makes my skin so soft and hydrated, and it is antimicrobial -Glamglow Hydrating masl my skin become smooth bright and hydrated every time wake up -Caudalie moisturizing sorbet it moisturizes my skin without any greasy look
Oddly, I received an email shortly after I had commented in a post about how I wasn't that concerned about not having receiving anything free from Sephora. I noted that, although it would certainly be neat to get a free thing, I certainly was not upset about not getting any. Seriously no biggie. Then I got an email that i would be receiving a Free Thing! I don't have a big wrinkle problem (silver lining to oily skin), but at age 41 I do have a few small wrinkles I'd like to address. I just wish I could use it under my eyes!
I was wondering what moisturizer is best for skin that is flaking b/c of Retin-A and additional acne medications. I'm looking for something that is fragrance free, won't cause additional irritation, and will combat the dryness that results from my prescriptions. Any suggestions?
I had a bad reaction to using self tanner on my face. It was my first time using one ever. I cleansed and dried then applied to my face and it immediately started turning bright red! I used Tarte Brazilliance Face & Body. Anyone have any insight on what I may be allergic to? I have only had a small reaction in the past to a serum and lotion that did not mix well on my face. Thanks!
Hi guys! I found an eye cream that I really liked for night time but half way through the jar I noticed after it soaked into my skin it would leave a sort of film or substance on my lashes and skin that would end up flaking off? What causes this? I've had this happen to me a couple times before with skin care products. This is the ONLY thing I put on my eyes at night btw.
I use my Jurlique Fruit Enzyme exfoliator and I love it. Sephora isn't carrying it anymore! Bad, Sephora, BAD! Has anyone used this particular exfoliator and then found a similar one? I have dry, dull skin with slight aging concerns. I wish Sephora had sets of favorite serums and favorite exfoliators, they way they do Beauty closet, and sephora favorites....I'd love try lots of new products....but I don't want to spend on a full size and discover I hate it. I'm not ANYWHERE near a store for the next six months, otherwise I'd get samples galore :-(
Seriously, ladies, this is a great cleanser. You can get a free sample with a $25 purchase. Code is NEWCLEAN. I scooped up a sample of this, and it's a great size to take on a trip and you get several uses out of it. Great product! http://www.sephora.com/checks-balances-frothy-face -wash-P297516
Hi All! I am trying to start a grown-up skincare routine for the first time. I had problems with acne as a kid, but now in my early/mid 20s I find my skin tends to be sensitive and dry, with the only breakouts being minor and "that time" of the month. Where do I start? Any recommendations? I'd love to get some glow and radiance out of my tired looking skin, but have to find very gently products. Thanks!
I am turning 27, and I can feel that my skin is aging. I just want to look young and flawless as everybody. My skin type is dry-combination. I had experienced acne last year, but thank God they are gone now. My current skincare routine is -Makari de suisse soap -Arcona Cramberry toner, -Caudalie vinosource sobert ( day time moisturizer) -Glamglow thurstymud hydrating mask Now I really to incorporate and anti aging products, serum or cream. Please can I have some suggestions
So being the clutz that I am, I accidentally recapped my bottle of Murad Renewal Cleansing oil with the wet cap (after having dropped it in the sink with running water) The oil quickly turned cloudy. Did I just ruin the the whole bottle? I was going to pick up another bottle as soon as I can but still... I was hoping someone was going to tell me something different....
I've started using Philosophy's Micodelivery Exfoliating Wash. My skin feels SO good after using it. And the stubborn spot of acne on my chin is clearing up!! (YAY!!!!) And I polled all my friends about what kind of moisturizer they use on their faces. And one of my besties (Who introduced me to Sephora! So you know she's awesome!) said she is using coconut oil and offered to give me some to try. I LOVE this stuff. It smells so good and it leaves my skin feeling SO SOFT!!! This duo is making my face super happy!! But it's only been a few days. So we'll see what happens. I'm hoping the coconut oil doesn't lead to more acne. I don't apply it too heavily, especially in that area.
I am 31 years old with very light, very sensitive skin. I have never really had bad acne or super noticeable problems with blemishes. I was not really one to wash my face more than once a day. I would take off my make up with wipes, but other than washing my face in the shower with a drug-store brand cleanser, and using an oil free moisturizer for sensitive skin, that was about it. Recently though, I have started to get bad acne/blemishes on my forehead, cheeks, chin and nose. The blemishes are extremely painful even when not touching them. Because my old routine was obviously not working, I wanted to try something new. I have fairly sensitive skin (I try to use products without fragrances, dyes, etc). I purchased Boscia's cleanser and willow bark spot treatment. At first, the cleanser seemed to be good. My skin would feel soft after I washed it and by the morning, my blemishes would be less irritated. The willow bark spot treatment did absolutely nothing. Toothpaste worked better than that stuff. Because my skin was so bad, I began to wash my face twice a day and use an oil free moisturizer on the dry areas of my face at night. But after using this for about a week, my face broke out like it has never done before. I stopped using the Boscia and went back to using my wipes and moisturizer only. Within a couple of days, my skin was starting to get better. I researched online and saw that the Murad brand was generally recommended for adult acne. I got the 3-day sample of their serum and have that my skin does seem to be a bit calmer. I had also purchased the Murad cleanser with all day acne treatment and have very carefully and sparingly started using that. So far, I am still dealing with the breakouts, but nothing like the insanity I saw after using the Boscia. So after all of that... here's my actual question: has anyone had a similar experience and if so, do you have any advice? I worry that my skin maybe can't handle any kind of skin care routine. But since I am starting to see signs of aging on my face, I really do want to start.
Two weeks ago I stepped up my retinol game at night from the Algenist Retinol Firming and Lifting Serum to Paula's Choice Clinical 1% Retinol Treatment Cream and went through peeling, redness, and especially sensitivity (I was accidentally blending this up under my eyes and onto my lids when I put my eye cream on and my eyes were having none of it - water burned and the only thing that I found that didn't irritate them was Neosporin). When I was going through the adjustment, sunscreen was adhering to my skin increasingly poorly, which I just chalked up to the flaking and dryness. Now that my skin has adjusted to the retinol, which I am able to use daily, sunscreen will barely adhere to my skin. I've been using the same amount of the same formulas (Kate Sommerville Waterlight, Supergoop City Serum, MDSolar Sciences SPF 50, Bioderma Photoderm MAX, and Neutrogena Dry Touch SPF 45) as well as the same skincare, but they don't blend in and don't stay put. If I don't wear makeup, they look obvious on the skin becasue of the streaks they leave, and if I do, then all of the formulas just ball up when I try to blend anything out. I think that it is becasue my skin texture has improved by leaps and bounds, but am not entirely sure. Has anyone else encountered this problem, or is it just a 'me' thing? I would love to hear any suggestions for sunscreens that you all think would work as well. I would like to avoid using waterproof, but, as of now, it looks to be my only feasible option .
Hi, my face is very sensitive and red. I was wondering what product would be best to reduce this redness. My skin isn't dry or oily. I just want to be confident walking out of the house without any makeup on. Thanks(:
BT lovelies what do you do for your skin while you're traveling? I was traveling recently and my lovely skin freaked out. I took my regular skincare stuff with me and followed my normal routine. I went from a warm climate (SoCal) to up north to the mountains near Seattle. My skin freaked out and broke out. Haven't had this bad of a break out in a LONG time. And then my skin dried up, painfully. I'm thinking it might have been the climate change or the water. I know we can get dehydrated while flying so I drink lots of water before/during/after the flight as well as moisturize twice as much. But this time it just didn't help. What do you guys do to help your skin cope with traveling? I'm going to be traveling again soon and I'd like to not have a skin freakout repeat. I'd like to look good in pictures without heavy make up or heavy photoshoping.
Okay! Pre-Cleansing and shaving with coconut oil and water, cleansing with ole's aloe cleanser, then sodium PCA with rose water and glycerin applied after dabbing face dry to tone, then ole's truth serum with some additional absorption time, then neutrogena break out free sunscreen, then olay's sensitive moisutrizer mixed with two drops pure argan oil for extra hydration. Doing this same routine at night but instead of serum and sunscreen I treat with Retin-A and moisturize with First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream. My skin just won't calm down, I know it may seem like I'm over-doing it but just a few hours later my skin is flaky, dry, and irritated! I read all my ingredients and make sure everything's alcohol free and as calming as possible but no matter what I do these breakouts are really just horribly irritated shave bumps followed by unquenchable dry patches with an oily t-zone. Taking care of my skin has been something I've been proud of since I was fourteen, sunscreen everyday and hour long bathroom skin routines. No matter what I do or try the unevenness, the acne, the irritation, the dryness, the oiliness, etc IT WON'T STOP Please help
Currently I'm quite angry with my new Mia. I didn't realize I purchased a "Pimple Variety Pack" along with it. I've been using my Mia for a little over a week and I suddenly have a smattering of red bumps across my forehead, dozens of little whiteheads along the sides of my nose and my chin, and worst of all two giant cysts forming. You know those painful ones you can feel forming under your skin for a couple of days before they turn into giant red cysts? The ones concealer slides right off of and it doesn't matter cause they're so big anyway? Yeah those. I'm getting two, right next to eachother, and right at the edge of my chin. It looks like I've developed a cleft chin. Stop laughing. It's not funny (Well ok it sort of is. But it's not. I'm 30 for Pete's sake.) End of rant.
