bare bones makeup/skincare routine
I have a lot of blackheads/whiteheads and have small breakouts often, so I usually lay on a ton of makeup. I want to move towards improving my skin so its healthy and glowy and fresh so I can pare down to a really simple makeup routine. Should I switch to a BB or CC cream in lieu of foundation? Or try natural products? Or invest in one of those expensive skin cleanser brushes? I don't know where to start.

Suncreen issues due to retinol
Two weeks ago I stepped up my retinol game at night from the Algenist Retinol Firming and Lifting Serum to Paula's Choice Clinical 1% Retinol Treatment Cream and went through peeling, redness, and especially sensitivity (I was accidentally blending this up under my eyes and onto my lids when I put my eye cream on and my eyes were having none of it - water burned and the only thing that I found that didn't irritate them was Neosporin). When I was going through the adjustment, sunscreen was adhering to my skin increasingly poorly, which I just chalked up to the flaking and dryness. Now that my skin has adjusted to the retinol, which I am able to use daily, sunscreen will barely adhere to my skin. I've been using the same amount of the same formulas (Kate Sommerville Waterlight, Supergoop City Serum, MDSolar Sciences SPF 50, Bioderma Photoderm MAX, and Neutrogena Dry Touch SPF 45) as well as the same skincare, but they don't blend in and don't stay put. If I don't wear makeup, they look obvious on the skin becasue of the streaks they leave, and if I do, then all of the formulas just ball up when I try to blend anything out. I think that it is becasue my skin texture has improved by leaps and bounds, but am not entirely sure. Has anyone else encountered this problem, or is it just a 'me' thing? I would love to hear any suggestions for sunscreens that you all think would work as well. I would like to avoid using waterproof, but, as of now, it looks to be my only feasible option .

SKINCARE HGs !
i've seen this type of question asked more generally, but i wanted to ask it specific to skincare. not only is it interesting to see what has really worked for people, but it'll maybe highlight some products others are interested in trying !   so: what are specific  products that would cause you to hyperventilate were you to run out ?   mine currently are: CLINIQUE take the day off cleansing balm FIRST AID BEAUTY facial radiance pads CAUDALIE beauty elixir AVEDA botanical kinetics hydrating face lotion edited to add: CAUDALIE vinoperfect enzymatic peel mask MURAD essential-c toner i have steps that i would never skip that are not represented in the above list, but the products i use for those steps tend to be more interchangeable.   additionally, a couple products that may reach HG status soon, but need a bit more time in my rotation: FIRST AID BEAUTY skin rescue purifying mask w/ red clay CLARINS blue orchid facial oil CAUDALIE vinosource s.o.s. thirst quenching serum

Ole Henrikson vs. Eve Lom cleansers
I received a few samples of the Eve Lom cleanser a while ago and really liked it, but I'm having trouble justifying almost $100 for a cleanser. I looked into the OH Melting cleanser, which seems like a decent dupe, but the reviews have been mixed. Does anyone have ideas on their similarity? I know the Eve Lom is a hot-cloth cleanser and the OH doesn't seem to be, but the "feel" of the melting cleanser seems to be the same based on description. I've used the Liz Earle hot-cloth cleanser as well, but that seems much creamier than the Eve Lom.

I currently use a generic version of Neutrogena makeup remover cleansing towelettes. While they do a great job of getting off all my makeup, they sting the heck out of my eyes. Glamglow: Overhyped or miracle product?
Hello ladies and gents,   I have been looking for a good face mask. I suffer from acne on certain parts of my face. Lately I've been using benzoyl peroxide products (5%) alongside my Murad Intensive C Radiance Peel, which I've found is helping. It seems i have some deep blackheads and other gunk that I've found it difficult to treat and draw out though. Would Glamglow be a good product to use for this purpose? Want to add something to my skin care routine when I'm 20
Hi all! I wish to add some skin care products to my list since I’m about to be 20. I’m just so excited to welcome my 20 years old birthday and want to take care of my face. I just use cleanser, toner and lotion. I’m looking for eye gel and mask now. I wonder if it’s a little early to use them. My face is a little sensitive and slightly oily on T zone. I used to use Clinique, Jurlique, and Kiehl’s. I find Fresh Lotus Eye Gel and Rose Mask might be a good choice. Can you leave me some suggestions? I would love to know other choices, and also if you are the same skin type with me, can you tell me what skin care products you use?

Dry, acne-prone skin. Need routine help please!
Long story short, I had mild/moderate acne through my teens that I probably treated wayyy too harshly and never really resolved. When I was about 20, I gave up on everything and was just washing my face with a Basis cleanser morning and night and nothing else. At this point, I think due to a combination of getting older and BCP, my acne was significantly reduced. Since then, I get mild hormonal breakouts once a month but not much else.   Now, at 22, I realize just washing my face probably isn't the best idea long-term, so I've been trying to figure out a routine. After a week or so of mild breakouts (purging?), the below routine seems to be working great for me. My skin is clear and toned and feels good. My problem is that in the morning, I feel like I'm well-moisturized but a couple hours later, my skin looked parched and my makeup settles in every pore and line. I don't know if I need a thicker moisturizer, or maybe a primer? I recently had a facial and they told me to try a toner to make it less dry, but I was under the impression that toners are drying? Again, my skin is still acne-prone (although clear right now), so I'm worried about adding thicker creams or anything that could potentially make me break out. I also fly 2x/week so that probably isn't helping with dryness. Other skin concerns include some mild indented scarring and I'd like to start preventing aging.    AM: Splash face with water and lightly exfoliate with washcloth La Roche Posay Effaclar Serum Kate Somerville D Scar Serum Origins Plantscriptives Anti-Aging Eye Treatment Nuxe Creme Prodigieuse Bobbi Brown BB or Supergoop CC (plus a little concealer + mascara)   PM: Simple cleasing wipes  Philosophy When Hope Is Not Enough Serum Neutrogena Healthy Skin Night Cream (retinol) Origins Plantscriptives Anti-Aging Eye Treatment Nuxe Creme Prodigieuse   Extras: Kiehl's Microdermabrasion Scrub 1-2x/week Kate Somerville Eradikate when I get a zit   Like I said, this is working for me except for the dryness issue. I know wipes aren't the best cleansing option, but I travel Mon-Thurs for work and really can't fit many more liquids in my little baggie...any wipe recommendations? Or cleaser recs, I can try to squeeze one more bottle in! I'm not loving the Simple wipes and I didn't like the Boots ones either. Is anything else missing? I'm clearly new at this and getting a little obsessive Thanks!

Q. What skin care brand/products should I try?
Hello! I'm nearly done with my skincare products, and I need some help choosing! I have had a lot of pimples, black spots, pores, scarring for about 6 years now. The first time I really felt like the products I used were working I used Biotherm Biosource mousse and the toner, serum and moisturizer in the same range. At some point it stopped improving my skin, and I wanted to try something new. The cleanser felt a little bit stripping, but that was the only downside about the cleanser. It felt AMAZING on the skin otherwise. I moved on from Biotherm (even though I still love the brand and products...) and went on to using the Ole Henriksen On the go-cleanser, toner, serum and night creams. They do the job, the cleanser cleanses REALLY well (thumbs up!), but can feel a bit stripping sometimes, and I don't like the anti-aging part of the range because I'm 18 and doesn't need it yet!   Recently I started using tea tree oil on my pimples, and Lush Magnaminty mask/exfoliator. They have done wonders for my skin - love them!  So, a little bit about my skin: Combination, but more oily than dry. Have a lot of pores in the t-zone where I get oily. Get pimples all over my face, but mostly on my chin, cheekbones, and a little bit on my nose. My nose has gotten more oily the past couple of months (because of the warm weather I think...), and it's hard for me to exfoliate or wear make-up over my nose because I get dry+oily at the same time, and the makeup seperates and gets all gross.  How my skin is right now: Pretty oily. Can only use a very, very thin layer of foundation over my nose, but I dont have that many pimples, and the scarring is less visible. I finally feel comfortable (at least compared to before...) not wearing make-up. I've been thinking about Boscia or First Aid Beauty. I prefer all the products to be in the same range. I don't want something too harsh on my skin. I want something light, that will help improve my skin without doing too much, if you know what I mean. For example, I hardly ever use moisturizer on my skin (only after exfoliating, or after a long vacation and a lot of sun-exposure), and I have the softest babyskin - I never get dry skin, and I think that is because I have never been the person to use moisturizer regularly, and my skin produces everything it needs for itself. Anyway, a lot of words here! Do you guys have any recommendations for me? Thank you!

What is your regular skincare routine?
I live in a mild climate, where it can be slightly humid, but otherwise it rains continually for 3/4 of the year. I have normal-to-combo skin, meaning I don't really have any major dry/oily spots, but I can get dry or slightly oily in my t-zone occasionally.    I use the Boscia Detoxifying Black Cleanser twice a day (ok, usually I only manage to use it once a day), and I moisturize with Ole Henriksen's Nurture Me and Bite's Agave Lip Mask twice a day (religiously). I exfoliate with Exfolikate twice a week, and I use the Boscia Black Luminizing mask all-over once a week, and in my trouble zones up to three times a week. I use the GLAMGLOW Powermud once or twice a week, and I spot treat any incoming blemishes with the GLAMGLOW Supermud as needed. I also use the Boscia Purifying Pore Strips on an as-needed basis as well.    What is your skincare routine?

Hey Ladies!    I was hoping to get some input on these 2 product lines?  They are both on the pricier side of skin care products and I was looking for something to amp up my routine.   I have combination skin - dry cheeks (some dryness/flaking above eyebrows, cheeks and nose) but oily t-zone.  On top of that I have sensitive/acne prone skin that has very red cheeks due to irritants/sun/acne.    Any thoughts on these two lines would be greatly appreciated.  I would love to hear from those who have used either or both thoroughly!   Thanks a ton!

Ole Henriksen Ultimate Lift Eye Gel
Thank you Sephora and Ole Henriksen for the sample of Ole's Ultimate Lift Eye Gel? I actually applied to my husbands eyes the past couple of nights as he works 24 hour shifts and had developed some serious bags and puffiness. This morning the swelling and lower eye tissue had tightened up so much that I would provide before and after pictures if only he was an active participant. I am very impressed with this product. I tried it myself last night and thought it was a little sticky until it dried. It does provide a nice cooling feeling immediately. I will probably keep this in the refrigerator for future use. I can say with complete certainty this will provide relief from swelling due to allergies, being sleep deprived, or a tearful evening.

To "tone" or not to "tone", that is the question!
Hi everyone!   So it's been, like forever, since I last posted on here.  Oh, how I've missed this beauty realm!  Anyway, I have an interesting topic I'd like to share and hear your thoughts on!   I grew up as the niece of a Mary Kay consultant, and from day one I was always told that every beauty regimen consisted of "cleansing, toning, and moisturizing".  In attempts to combat my acne-prone skin, I researched and researched the best ways to achieve clear skin and realized that toning isn't always the key to healthy, acne-free skin--everyone's skin is different, and sometimes being too harsh or using products that are too drying can actually CAUSE acne.  I had finally found a routine and products that worked and, through trial-and-error, discovered ingredients that aggravate my skin (which I now avoid).  Before, I had been using Murad's AHA/BHA Exfoliating Cleanser twice a day (I can already hear the gasps) and my skin was clearer than it had been in a while and my skin seemed to tolerate the exfoliation.  However, I'm moving to Florida in three weeks and was just recently there to scout out the area.  MAN, had I forgotten how HOT, HUMID, and MUGGY it is! Phew!! Guess what happened?  Of course my skin was constantly oily, and instantly began to break out.  And my Murad cleanser instantly seemed to stop helping and began aggravating my skin.  So when I returned home (Ohio), I realized that I really need to rethink my skincare routine and LISTEN to my skin.   ANYWAY, long story short, I re-visited my toner, Sea Breeze Original Formula.  I used this long ago, but stopped due to the fact that I was afraid of drying out my skin too much and therefore causing my skin to produce too much oil and therefore creating acne.  **ugh, the deadly cycle**.  So I've been using a gentle cleanser morning and night, followed by my Sea Breeze toner (I hate that they call it an *astringent*...it sounds so....harsh), followed by a gentle, basic moisturizer or my beloved Argan Oil.   Honestly, my skin improved overnight.  So I wondered, am I really CLEANING my skin enough?  Today, I experimented with just that!  I had nothing to do today (and by nothing, I mean NOTHING!) So that meant no makeup, nada. I cleansed, toned, and moisturized this morning at around 9:00.  It's 7:00 pm now and I was feeling grimy, so I cleansed my face then just took a few cotton rounds and toner and swiped them on my face.   OH. MY. GOSH....THE DIRT!!! It's unbelievable!! And this is from literally doing anything and not wearing any makeup!!! I'm just stunned by how much dirt and grime my toner and cotton pad were able to pick up, and it has really made me reconsider the methods in which we "clean" our face.  I know toners aren't for everyone, and I've been against them ever since I did my research on clearing acne-prone skin.  But my golly, I'm just stunned so I had to share this with you all, pictures included!!  I used it several times, the first cotton round being the first swipe, and the last one being a clean, un-used one (just so you can see the difference).   How do you feel about toners, and if you use 'em, which ones do you prefer?   P.S.  Sorry for the super. Incredibly. Long. Post.  It's been way too long, and I felt the need to be thorough.  Plus, as I said, I had NOTHING to do today, which equals boredom.  Which equals this post.

Q. Should I purchase a Clarisonic?!
Hello all -   In high school and college, I suffered from really bad cystic and hormonal acne. I used Proactiv during that time and for the most part it helped to clear up those breakouts. However, I feel that after 5 years of using the system, my skin wasn't progressing. I now have uneven skin tone, enlarged pores, hyperpigmentation, and severe post acne scarring. I also get blackheads around my nose and cheek area which are under the skin. I want to extract them, but I'm afraid of further scarring. Most days, I wear foundation (Lancome's Teint Ultra in 430 Bisque C) to conceal my uneven tone and scarring. I decided in January of this year to invest in new skincare products. I stopped using the Proactiv and switched to Clinique's Acne Solutions Kit. Along with the kit, I use the following products:    - Kate Somerville Oil Free Moisturizer (morning and nightly) - Murad Oil Control Mattifier SPF 15 (every day before makeup application) - Kate Somerville ExfoliKate Intensive Exfoliating Treament (2-3 times a week) - Kate Somerville EradiKate Acne Treatment (spot treatment as needed)  - Glam Glow Supermud Clearing Treatment (1-2 times a week, sometimes right after using ExfoliKate)  - Murad Post Acne Spot Lightening Gel (nightly)  While I love all of these products, I find that now in July, my face pretty much looks the same as it did in the beginning of the year. I don't want to feel discouraged, but at the same time I want to trust that investing so much money and time in these products will yield results. I follow beauty bloggers on the Internet, and many of them rave about the Clarisonic. I've been intrigued for many months now and I'm wondering whether I should purchase it. Will this be the answer I'm looking for? Will it finally help me achieve even toned, clear, and bright skin? Can you recommend any other products that deliver visible results? Do I need to stop using one of the above products? Any skin product life savers? Any help, advice, and product recommendations would be fantastic. Thank you so much!
