SkinCare Help Please!

I have been struggling with my skin for a long time it's slightly acne prone. I have more of a combination skin. I have quite dry parts and I get quite oily in my T-Zone. I have been struggling with my skin since I was 16. I've used harsh products like ProActiv which caused me to breakout more. I am unsure on a daily routine and which products to use. PLEASE HELP! 🙂

@KBonogofski

Proactive has menthol in it which is a skin irritant.  Please read Paula Begoun's "Beauty Bible" for sound advice.  In the meantime, use a liquid cleanser (I like Neutrogena Fresh Foaming Wash), BHA (Paula's Choice) for chemical exfoliation and to rid yourself of blackheads, mechanical exfoliation (Philosophy Microdelivery for harsh scrubbing or Neutrogena for light scrubbing), PersaGel by Clean & Clear for pimples, CeraVe PM for dry areas, blot throughout the day with oil absorbing sheets (Target makes an inexpensive but effective one).  Also consider Retin-A; Differin in the weakest form is available OTC.

Re: SkinCare Help Please!

I have combo and acne prone skin as well and if I had to recommend one staple, it'd be Belif's Aqua Bomb! It hydrates my dry areas and works well with my more oily areas.

On the topic of being acne prone, I'd like to recommend The Ordinary's Niacinamide serum. I'm almost positive it works well with my acne prone skin because I started having breakouts more than usual during the two weeks where I ran out (wasn't hormonal). Once I brought it back into my routine, my skin went back to normal.

Re: SkinCare Help Please!

Hi @KBonogofski,

I'm pretty oily/combo as well, and I get dry around my jaw line and sometimes my cheeks. I like using an oil cleanser because I feel like it doesn't strip my skin of the oils it needs to stay hydrated, in turn, producing less oil throughout the day. I swear I tell everyone this, but I suggest checking out the Tatcha Pure One Step Camellia Cleansing Oil. I also love that this cleansing oil has skincare properties that assist with preventing signs of aging, correcting any dullness, and it will also remove your makeup!

For your T-zone, I suggest trying out the Ole Henriksen Counter Balance Oil Control Hydrator. This is a nice lightweight moisturizer that also helps reduce excess oil and mattifies the skin as well. I'll use this moisturizer on my T-zone since that is where I'm most oily.

Also be sure to try your best to steer clear from products that contain alcohol, as this will dry out your skin and cause you to produce more oil. I hope this helps! 🙂

Cheers!
Nikko
