Often people ask for recommendations on a skincare routine or for specific products/combinations. This might be a place to share your everyday skincare, both AM and PM. A skincare "what are you wearing" as it were. Hope this is useful.
*Age - 40
Skin type - oily/combination
Current skin condition - quite dehydrated (winter/indoor heating)*
01/17/16 - AM skincare in the order I used
1. Nude Jelly cleanser (love)
2. Pixi Glow tonic (5% glycolic toner - love)
3. Omorovicza Queen of Hungary Spritz (sample)
4. Radical Skincare Youth Infusion serum - hydrating and anti-ageing (new to me. Testing)
5. Bobbi Brown Hydrating Eye Cream (like)
6. Elemis Pro-Collagen Marine cream (really like as an AM moisturizer)
I will try to post PM skincare tonight so the post can be comprehensive.
General comments - Okay skin. Apparently the age between 38-42 is a transformational time in hormones (dehydrated skin/spots), so I am more aware of how my skin performs/reacts . My skincare definitely has more "actives" now than before.
Ladies
I hope you can help me with a doubt I have. I've been using DE Glycolic, then Marula Oil and I top it off with Lala Retro, so far so good.
However after I wash my face (Ren overcalling cleanser) my skin looks horribly dry and dull, sometimes I feel I'm just masking it with all the oils and creams because when I wash it off my skin doesn't look good.
I read that the oils only lock in the moisture you already have and that if you are dry you should use a hydrating product before the oils (I've been eyeing Josh Rosebrook hydrating accelerator) but it's just aloe water and vitamins.
Is that true? Do I need a hydrating mist before using the oils, creams? I live in Connecticut long dry winter.... should I run a humidifier every night?
Thanks in advance and sorry for the longest question ever 🙂
You can try a hyaluronic acid serum! I just introduced a cheap, but effective one from Deciem's Ordinary line. I really recommend trying this out. My skin was so dehydrated from the winter months and adding this to my routine (before moisturizer) really helps!
@YoiFran Layering hydrating products has been the key for me this winter. Since I've started layering a hydrating serum or toner under my cream moisturizer, my skin has no longer been dry or flaking.
You might also want to try switching the order of the Marula Oil and Lala Retro. The Marula Oil may be forming too much of a barrier, preventing Lala retro from moisturizing fully. Using the oil after will lock in the hydration from the cream.
I saw your comment below about the MAC toner - let us know how it works out for you. I haven't tried the mac toner but have heard good things about the Lightful C line.
Your skin seems dehydrated, which isn'y unusual at this time of year. It has warmed a lot where I live and I forget that the rest of the country still has a winter.
Layering hydration and is a great way to battle it. A hydrating mist, hydrating serum, oil, then a cream (if you still think you need some).
I have oily skin that gets quite dehydrated in winter (with indoor heating). An I often layer like this...
@greenchilli please send us your spring!!!
I just found a moisturizing mac toner from the brightening c line in my forgotten skincare drawer. I will start spraying it on my face before the face oil. Thansk!!!
Hi @YoiFran!!
I always had the same issue and I wasn't able to get rid of dry patches around my nose, on my chin and between eyebrows whatever I used. When I started accutane treatment, it became worst and I started to use Chanel Micro-serum with a lot of hope (steep price, but a little goes a long way). It is a really miracle product for me. I'm still on accutane and no dryness around. My skin is supple and well hydrated. I also use Amore Pacific moisture bound spay before and I love it.
Thanks for the suggestion! I definitely need to add an extra step. I will try to find samples of the products that worked for you. If they wroked for accutane dryness they are good!
@YoiFransounds like you and I are having a similar issue. I was using all of those same products in the evenings with a different morning cleanser and but was having the same result. I tried adding B Hydra with a spritz before in the mornings and evenings and didn't see any change. I think my skin needs a more occlusive moisturizer at night. We're having a long dry winter in Colorado as well with high desert altitude. I started using Charlotte Tilbury's night moisturizer (some love it and some hate it so I got samples first). It seems to be doing the trick to hold the moisture in my skin so that when I cleanse in the am I don't go right back to being dry.
@shells72 thanks for the suggestion. I will look for samples of the CT night moisturizer. My skin looks and feels good until I wash it and I'm only washing it at night so it doesn't get even drier. I'm afraid I'm just masking the issues and underneath all the dryness problems are still there :s
Tonight's skincare missing Amore Pacific treatment enzyme peel that I use on my neck because PMD feels harsh on meck and I can't just leave it my neck behind so all my chemical peels are getting in use there.
I am still going through samples of cleansing lotions and balms. Opened this sample of Clinique Balm but not sure after first use if I love it or not.
@greenchilli you always give excellent recommendations, so i'm looking for some help! i have been using SR luna, good genes and Paula's Choice BHA liquid every other day (it dries me out too much when used daily.) I have noticed a decrease in acne scarring and a more even tone, but i still have texture issues, especially around my mouth and chin. Do you have any suggestions on what I can add to my routine? I do exfoliate a few times a week with the tatcha rice powder, and use a REN glycolic peel/Glamglow tingle mud once or twice a week.
Hi @unfungirl
Seems like you have exfoliation and acids incorporated into your routine that you like. All the right steps to prevention and maintenance.
Is the texture around mouth and chin clogged pores/tiny comedones or is it just dry skin?
If it is clogged pores/comedones, a good extracting facial will do wonders. It will just speed up the process and your skincare will maintain the upkeep. Some facialists will also give a deeper exfoliation that will help as well.
Your skincare is doing all the right things, just slowly. A good facial can give a nice boost.
that's good to hear @greenchilli! i'm glad i am on the right track.
it is a combination actually of clogged pores and the occasional dry patch. i've cut back on chemical exfoliants and that has helped with the dryness, but i will look into extracting facials! we have a new medi-spa in town that offers microneeding as well, and the esthetitian suggested that on my first visit.
thanks so much for the info!!

I am so happy someone else is using and loving the Son & Park Beauty Water. I can't stop raving about it because it has changed my life!
How is the Pixi Glow Mud Cleanser and the Drunk Elephant stuff? I've been thinking about trying but not sure.
I am not ready for Monday. I need it to be Friday....from a month ago.
AM skincare 02/03/17
Age - 41 by a thread
Skin type - oily and a bit dehydrated (weather related). Otherwise fine.
I have incorporated some new products from brands I already love. And they have worked out well...who woulda thunk 😉
1. Tata Harper Purifying Cleanser
2. Pixi Glow tonic
3. Zelens Z Luminous Brightening serum - almost out of it.
4. Farmacy Eye Dew.
5. Tata Harper Rebuilding moisturiser - Just started using this. This will be excellent for me in Spring/summer. It is already Spring in Texas. This is a light lotion (not cream), hydrating without being heavy. I am surprised how much I like it.
28- dry. AM:
Water cleanse
PTR unwrinkle toner
Erborian water lock mask
SR good genes
Shisedo power infusing concentrate
Caudalie premier cru eye cream
SR tidal moisturizer
Skin was happy with the hydrating mask and getting a good nights sleep and feels good. Lips on the other hand are waging war. Dry, tight, uncomfortable. Thankfully not blistering. They've been known to hate on products after a while, so will be spending the next few days detoxing them from everything and trying to figure out what it is. Really hoping its not bite masks, they have been working SO well for me.

27, I'm pretty happy with my skin in general right now. *knock on wood*
Tatcha Camellia cleansing oil * I think I'm going to go back to Clinique TTDO after this bottle, I like a creamy balm better, just personal preference. Also Clinique is cheaper
Nude Omega Jelly ❤
DDG retinal + ferulic acid peel
The Ordinary Hylauronic acid

Mostly same skin care routine but I want to share a new addition. I bought Patchology eye gels on impulse just because they had Caffeine.
I am going through a flareup so my eyes are mostly swollen after uncomfortable nights. I use these eye gels and leave them on for 15 minutes instead of recommended 5 minutes and wow! Does it help?
I can see my eye bags pretty much inflated and eyes look visibly less tired.
For now I am using them every morning. Once this phase passes I'll see if I use them every other day or so.
I don't mind using every morning if they keep giving me same results.
Just thought to share as eye bags aren't a rare problem and many of us suffer from them to varying intensity.
