Often people ask for recommendations on a skincare routine or for specific products/combinations. This might be a place to share your everyday skincare, both AM and PM. A skincare "what are you wearing" as it were. Hope this is useful.
*Age - 40
Skin type - oily/combination
Current skin condition - quite dehydrated (winter/indoor heating)*
01/17/16 - AM skincare in the order I used
1. Nude Jelly cleanser (love)
2. Pixi Glow tonic (5% glycolic toner - love)
3. Omorovicza Queen of Hungary Spritz (sample)
4. Radical Skincare Youth Infusion serum - hydrating and anti-ageing (new to me. Testing)
5. Bobbi Brown Hydrating Eye Cream (like)
6. Elemis Pro-Collagen Marine cream (really like as an AM moisturizer)
I will try to post PM skincare tonight so the post can be comprehensive.
General comments - Okay skin. Apparently the age between 38-42 is a transformational time in hormones (dehydrated skin/spots), so I am more aware of how my skin performs/reacts . My skincare definitely has more "actives" now than before.
Oh ok, thank you!
yeah toner is a loose word. but the glow tonic is, essentially, an acid (liquid) exfoliant (like the PC BHA). other toners and essences are designed more for hydration. it's safe and beneficial to use both, so long as they're not both exfoliating toners.
BHA and AHAs (like the pixi or fab pads) essentially function in the same way, but are different. my skin prefers AHAs to BHAs. so while they're technically interchangeable in purpose, you may find one or the other works better for you.......
Ahh, ok, thanks! I do use a toner & essence (Missha right now but I think my skin hates it) as well as the PC BHA in the morning and the DDG pads maybe 3 nights/week. I don't know that the PC is doing too much for me so I'm thinking of trying out the Pixi when that's used up.
Has anyone tried the new Glossier cleanser? I have tried some of their other products and they are just okay. The detoxifying mask is pretty good but that's about it.
Right now I'm using
AM/PM cleanser- Purity by Philosophy
AM/PM moisturizer - Josie's Argan Oil or Clinique DDML (oldie but goodie)
Didn't really want to start a separate thread, this seemed like a great place to ask...
I've had some hormonal breakout the last couple of months, but have pretty much just let everything clear up on its own without any specific treatment products. So besides prescription retinol products, what spot blemish treatment products does everyone prefer?
hey etscore1 ! my fave spot treatment, no kidding, is a facial oil. clarins lotus oil is my go-to for this, really. it keeps spots from getting angry; within a day they're either gone / considerably less angry, or have come to a head (either situation is ideal, really, compared to the very angry cysts i used to get). and the plus side of this is that because i'm not drying out my skin, the heal time is infinitely quicker, and i'm never left with scars.
Hey jemly! Thank you! As I was reading through this thread, I was actually noticing quite a few similarities the way you describe your skin and what I deal with on a regular/cyclical basis. So I will definitely see if I can get a sample of this.
Etscore - I've never had good luck with spot treatments. Particularly the Murad, which gets such amazing reviews - it always seemed to make them worse/last longer for me! However, I have recently tried the PTR acne dots and they seem to do a really good job for me - I wear at night when I feel something coming on and they seem to keep it from getting any worse. I haven't bought the big size yet, but I got the travel size.
I recently have been using those acne dots and also found them pretty effective in bringing down the size of a bump when used overnight!
Thank you! I'm a PTR fan, so this is good news! I'll definitely read up more on this!
I like tea tree oil for regular ones, less drying. And MB buffering lotion for cysts.
Age: 33
Type: Acne prone
PM:
Liz Earle Hot Cloth Cleanser
PTR Irish Moor Mud Mask for about 2 minutes
PTR Cucumber Mask while in bath
Fresh Floral Toner to add a little moisture while I applied body oil and tidied up the bathroom
Paula's Choice Hydralight Toner
Sunday Riley Luna Oil
Sephora Honey Sleeping Mask
My facial didn't quite go as planned, but all's well that ends well. I wanted to conduct an experiment: using the mud mask while in the bath. I applied a thin layer, started running the bath, then quickly realized the smell of the mask was going to overpower the scent of my bath oil. I abandoned the plan, removing the mud mask after about two minutes and applying the cucumber instead (I use this during most of my baths anymore). My skin feels incredible tonight!

two crazy things...
1. i put milk all over my clean face about once a week. it cleanses and moisturizes and dries in about 5-7 min. i rinse it off with lukewarm water. it does wonders for my skin
2. in the winter i put coconut oil all over my face about once a week. it seriously moisturizes my crazy winter skin.
Dehydrated... decided to layer hydration serums to see if that helps. I think it did, at least for now...

2. Fresh soy eye cleanser: ok
3. *Fresh soy face cleanser: like (old standby)
4. *Darphin Intral toner: first impression is LOVE. I have never felt strongly about a toner before, but this one is sooo soft and calming. It is all kinds of wonderful.
5. Tata Harper resurfacing mask (30mn): like. the scent is nice. It wasn't very comfortable on since it dried into a thin film, but my skin was happy afterwards. Need more trials.
6. *May Coop essence: like. It is a lot goopier than the essences i am used to (Missha, SK-II, Innisfree) but that was a plus since i didn't have any serum in my travel kit.
