Why does sephora want to kill trees with so much paper in everything?

Why does sephora want to kill trees with so much paper in everything?

Hi ladies!

Thank you for the feedback. :smileyhappy: This may be a bit random or off subject but I take the paper included in our shipment boxes and put them in my boots.. as in,tall knee high boots.  It helps to keep their shape! PLUS its great to use for packing away fragile items I have at home.

We'll definitely pass on your feedback for the paper and do appreciate your concern and passion for the environment! :smileyhappy:

A good use for their tissue paper: use it as a blotter for your face.

Tissue paper makes an expensive blotter for oily skin. Just separate the 2 ply (plies?) and blot (don't rub) on any oily areas!

I have had makeup come from other companies that didn't send the product well protected and my makeup was broken and a mess. They wouldn't even replace it for me! I appreciate the way the products come when mailed and I recycle myself so it never goes to waste.

I agree some companies, including Sephora, go overboard with the tissue paper and oversize boxes.  I recently ordered a lipstick and facial primer and it came in a box the size of shoebox.  Really?  There where no smaller boxes or padded envelopes?  That, and people who buy bottled water drive me crazy.

hmmm...perhaps Sephora could try to send a prepaid manila envelope so people could mail back the packaging paper? I would take the time to flatten out and fold the paper to send it back. This seems like it might end up saving them some money and trees.

I think Sephora does a fine job of getting the products to me unbroken and not crushed, and I can't say the same about other companies.  I reuse or recycle the packaging material.  Don't you think sending everyone a manila envelope to return the packing material is a waste of resources?

I agree with anaa 100%. Makeup breaks so easily during shipping and if Sephora didnt package their products the way they do now they would lose a lot of money because everyone would be returning broken items. The delivery people throw packages around like its nobody's business, the words "fragile" mean nothing to them. And its not just makeup that can easily break, skincare thats packaged in glass or tubes can break/spill as well. I remember once ordering a cream from ebay, it was in a tube and the person sent it to me in a paper envelope with no padding and I got a cream soaked envelope in my mailbox. And I ALWAYS reuse their packaging to mail Christmas/Birthday gifts so I dont think they are killing trees....I used to buy those cardboard shipping boxes at Target or Walgreens for 5 bucks each but I havent had to do that in awhile. I just save the boxes I get from ordering stuff online and put them in the garage until I need them to mail gifts.

Thank you Sephora for taking the time to package the items so well!

It is a lot of packaging, but at the same time I appreciate my makeup not getting to me in a million pieces.  I choose to recycle, so at least I am happy knowing that the packaging used will be reused in another form.

What are the alternatives? Maybe you can suggest something that they may consider. I get shipments from Amazon.com with air filled plastic pillow-like packing but that takes peteroleum to make, so I don't have a suggestion. Maybe you know a better way?

I'm not sure where you are referring to their paper use- is it in packaging?  I understand your concerns but I would be more worried if they didn't package their items well for shipping.  It'd be heartbreaking to receive a blush or eyeshadow palette that crumbled because it wasn't packed well!
