Ladies (and gentlemen!) Since Canada seems to be getting different/fewer brands added to the website, and any cross-border new releases seem to be several days to weeks later than US releases, I thought we could use our own 'what's new/found in the wild' post. Please feel free to share any new products/brands you find on the Canadian site here.
I'm making this thread because I simply don't want to create a new thread for every little question that pops into my head, nor do I think that most questions need a separate topic. I had previously just dropped whatever random question that came to mind into the Random Thread (thanks jemly!), but I had been thinking about starting this for a while and figured I'd give it a shot to see if it could be of any use. I'm well aware that the people who could best utilize this thread will likely remain completely oblivious to it, but if it can consolidate even a small fraction of questions -- and maybe even generate some interesting conversations both beauty and non-beauty related -- that seems worthwhile. Official thread mascots: The Curious Puppies. Official thread anti-mascot: Lucille Bluth. It probably would've been wise of me to have a relatively inane question to use as an example and kick this thread off... Well, since I apparently don't have any pressing questions, I'll start with this two-parter: What's your favorite drug store nail polish shade AND which official mascot puppy is your favorite? Bonus/Extra Credit: What's it's name?
I know many have noticed lately that Sephora has fallen off the wagon in regards to samples. In a major way. Today I received yet another order without the samples I requested. So I wondered, exactly how bad has it gotten? Since Nov. 6th I have placed 12 orders. That's 36 requested samples. Of that 36 I have received 11. Sometimes the samples were substitutions. Other times there have been no samples at all. Now, Sephora can claim that they disclose that "substitutions will be made for out of stock samples". All very well and good, but I have been a customer for over a decade. This recent sample fiasco has caught my attention because up until now I have received the requested samples nearly 100% of the time. I am also not stupid enough to think Sephora didn't see/anticpate a problem with the samples and thus removed requested sample listings from the invoices. (This is fairly recent.) So Sephora, why are you still letting us think we get to pick our samples when in fact we do not? Why is a sample I requested not being delivered with my order but still showing up days later as an available sample? (* cough* Sephora Collection Express Eye Makeup Remover Wipes *cough* Maison Margiela Lipstick On *cough) I realize a free sample isn't something to get my undies in a bundle about... Generally speaking anyway, which is why I haven't said much over the past few months. Some of us though, live in smaller areas where brands like Maison Margiela aren't in store and we place an order specifically for that sample. When we don't receive it, it's a disappointment. When it happens over and over and over again over a period of months... well one starts to think you're either lying or you really need to get your #%$@ together.
I'd like to hear some recommendations for a VEGAN face wash that you use that is similar to Philosophy's Purity: not a milk or oil cleanser, not foaming, but somewhere in-between like Purity, that doesn't dry out your skin but still cleanses well. Thank you!
Since Glossier launched its Phase 2 set today, I thought it would be a good time to start a thread for the brand. Plus, I'm a bit obsessed with its products. PROMOS: I have a referral link (you get 20% off, PM me for it). Buy the new Priming Moisturizer Rich and the Milk Jelly Cleanser together and save $5. Sometimes there are additional discounts and promos floating around IG. Tag me if you find one and I'll add it here. NEWS: Priming Moisturizer Rich, a richer (duh) face cream than the one in the original line. The original is my HG cream, so I wonder how this one will stack up. It's already lost points with me for the jar packaging, but let's hope it can make it up on the formula and results fronts. $35, 1.7 fl.oz. (the original is the same size and $10 cheaper).
I'm 29 years old with combination skin. I cleanse, moisturize, and use a lightweight serum daily. My skin is healthy and looks great bare, but as soon as I apply foundation, concealer, or even a BB cream, I suddenly have fine lines everywhere! They're especially bad around my eyes. It's incredibly frustrating because it makes me appear much older than I am. I don't even use full coverage products, just light coverage to even out my skin tone and give me a healthy glow. Could someone please recommend a primer that helps minimize fine lines? I'm not looking for an anti-aging product since they tend to have very harsh ingredients in them that my skin just doesn't need yet. I just want something that will fill in those fine lines, not settle into them.
I'm starting a thread specifically for PLAY! subscribers that want to find more of the products they love and have a place to give away the products they don't! I think since they are samples, we really can't "sell" the products to each other. But I think asking for shipping and "handling" may be appropriate. But please let's keep things realistic (i.e $1-2 handling fees, NOT $10). Rules: 1. Paypal only. Do no gift unless you know the person. 2. Honesty. Send what you say you're going to send. 3. State clearly what you're sending/trading for. If it's half gone, say so. 4. Communicate. 5. Be fair.

Hello~ I don't live near a department store with a MAC counter or standalone MAC store. I have been wearing MAC Pro Longwear in NC30 this entire summer! Yes, it is a tad orange, but I find that it blends to match my tan nearly perfectly. I was super worried at first when I bought it in the winter (NC30 in Full Coverage is apparently quite lighter and more yellow), but it's awesome for my summer skin. I usually mix it with argan oil or my L'Oreal pro-glow, since I do have dry skin. And now, the REAL question... I'm about to reorder, and I figured that I might want to order a lighter shade for the upcoming Fall, and also because I plan on making a DIY cushion foundation with it to carry around in the Fall during class. NC25 seems like the obvious choice, but I wanted to ask if it also was equally as orange, or if it was more yellow. I'm warm-neutral, and way too many foundations are too yellow or olive on me. I tried to use Temptalia, but the only foundation that I KNOW matches my winter skin 100% is matching to NC30 (it definitely IS NOT!), while the NC25 matches to a more yellow shade in that line. When I matched all, the matches appeared very yellow in comparison to the NC30 shades. Can anyone offer insight?
I didn't see a thread started and we are already a week in to February! If someone did start a thread, I apologize! But I definitely have some favorites from the start of 2017 that I'm a little obsessed with going in to February. Atelier Cologne: The 31 Days of Perfume challenge got me really excited about a few I already have in my collection and a few I've added, and Atelier keeps delivering for me. I keep picking up samples of others in this brand haven't grown tired of my favorites, like I have with others. Kat Von D ELL Lolita 2: I think I reached for this the most during the month of January. The color is just perfect for me, and the staying power and wear is the best I've found, in her line and others. Laura Geller GlamLASH Masacra: I picked up a couple of these during the big LG sale in December, and wore it almost daily in January. It just works for my lashes, I love it. Fresh Sugar : Lip balm addict, I keep going back to this one.
Hello Sunday Riley Products are amazing and have pretty good reviews. If you have used any products from their line, can you please share your experience with us. Which of their products have you used? Did you like it or not and Why? What are the other products you would like to try or get more informations on? I am currently using Goog Gens, which I really love. to me, it is exfoliationg plumping and brightening. It just does everything to my skin Luna comes right after Good Genes. for a while I was using Luna on top of GG, but since i have started to use them as the compagny says, my skin became so much better I have also used the Ceramic Cleanser, which I did not like, don t know way, but my skin just doesn t like it. I wanted to try artemis, but it is discontinued. Now I am excited in trying Juno oil and Tidal
Hi everyone, I've recently purchased the SK-II Mid-Day Essence mist and was wondering if there was any way to open the cap. As bazar as it sounds lid does not open! I've tried everything and it is as if it was super glued on. The mist is so fine so I would like to repurpose the bottle. Any tips or tricks would be greatly appreciated!
Just looking for a new face oil and noticed the Bobbi Brown Extra face oil is priced strangely on the Canadian website. It is $30 for 15ml or $82 for 30 ml. It doesn't make sense. No one would buy the larger bottle if they could get two smaller bottles for $22 less and the same amount of product. Not to mention, the smaller bottle comes with a convenient dropper, but the larger bottle looks really messy?
I recently received a sample of the Becca Backlight priming filter, and i really like it. It works wonders with my Teint infusion foundation. However, I am not liking the price. My question is how does this compare to the Sephora Collection Beauty Amplifier afterglow primer & luminizer? Are they comparable, Sephora's if half the price. Thanks!
Hello, I'm going to be receiving a brush set this Christmas and I'm not sure whether to opt for a set from Zoeva or a Sephora set. If any of you have tried both brush brands and prefer one over the other I'd love to know. Price isn't an issue.
Ok, so this was YEARS ago, but I used to LOVE Hilary Duff's With Love perfume. Obviously they don't make this anymore, so I'm trying to see if anyone out there is familiar with that scent and can recommend to me the closest perfume that's available now.
We've all felt the pain of those items that we would have gotten, should have gotten but now must pay way to much to buy from re-sellers. Maybe collective BT minds can identify (while still in stock) the limited edition must haves. Heading into the holiday season the limited editions will likely be more extravagant and exciting. I'm eyeing Burberry and Guerlain. Anyone have any thoughts on currently available or soon to be limited editions? A lot of the holiday stuff is limited so I'm linking to the holiday thread as well : http://community.sephora.com/t5/Beauty-Confessions /HOLIDAY-2016/td-p/2454167
I just got the most beautiful box filled with Skin Laundry products from Sephora as a gift to try. I am so very excited to try. Anyone got their hands on these babies and want to share their experiences yet? As an acne-prone person who battled with acne all my life, I cannot wait to try these. They read that they are gentle which is really important to not piss my skin off further
I'm actually BEYOND gutted I missed out on this traincase I had to wait until payday to buy it on the site, but it apparently sold out the DAY BEFORE I was set to purchase it ! Lol just my luck... Does anyone know where I could find something similar? Or if someone is wanting to sell theirs? I really had my heart set on it Tbh, anything glittery or holographic would be nice !
I'm a long term skincare addict, so I was super excited to try the pillowcase, cleanser and sheet masks from the newest brand Sephora carries--Skin Laundry. Thanks for the package, Sephora! I've never heard of Skin Laundry before this. Apparently it originates from LA based spa that is inspired by laser&light facials. It focuses on gentle but effective products with simple ingredients. Sleepcycle Pillowcase It is a queen sized, 100% cotton pillowcase with 300 threadcount and charged with silver ion technology. There are scientific studies shown that colloidal gold is antiaging and copper peptides help with collagen production, so I'm not surprised that silver is antibacterial, which is great for acne-prone skin (especially if you are a side sleeper). I tried a copper infused eyemask before but couldn't stand the metallic scent, but this pillowcase has no scent. It looks like a normal white pillowcase, very soft and smooth. I rarely get blemish so unfortunately I can't attest to that aspect. It says to wash every 7-10 days and the antibacterial effect of silver ion technology should last 50 washes, so it should be effective for about a year. Because the oil and stuff on your face get smeared on the pillowcase, I usually flip to the other/clean side after 3-4 days of use, then wash after another 3-4 days. So far, it's been a very soft and comfy pillowcase to me. Gentle Foaming Face Wash This gentle cleanser aims to be gentle but effective, and it delivers. It's a clear gel with a very mild clean scent. It lathers a little but does not foam. It feels comfortable on the skin and rinses off cleanly. It leaves the skin feeling clean, but not drying or moisturizing. Ingredients-wise, its a very basic cleanser with chamomile and cucumber to soothe, shea butter/glycerin/panthenol (a form of vit B that attracts moisture) to moisturize. It's great for all skin types, including sensitive. If you are looking for a cleanser that focuses on oil control or breakouts for oily skin, or one that focuses on moisturizing for dry skin, then this is not it. It is good basic cleanser with good simple ingredients, reasonably priced at $20. Hydrating Facial Sheet Masks! Finally, my favorite part! I've tried over 100 different sheet masks, mostly Korean ones, so I'm quite excited to try this. The sheet mask is a piece of folded cloth soaked in a white milky serum with no scent. The sheet feels more cloth-like than the paper/fiber cloth sheet that most sheet masks are made of which means it's sturdy with no risk of being torn and easy to unfold, but it also doesn't adheres to the skin as closely. The serum feels cool and comfortable on the skin. If you use it when your skin is irritated or sensitive, there may be a tingling sensation for a few seconds and that's all. The serum leaves the skin feel moisturized but clean, no stuffy feeling or greasy residue at all. My skin definitely feels refreshed and moisturized. If you have oily skin you may not need a moisturizer afterward, but if you have dry skin then I'd recommend using a moisturizer to seal the good stuff in after the essence absorbs. There is ~1-2 Sephora sample jar's amount of serum left in the packet after taking the mask out. You can massage it onto neck/chest while wearing the mask, or save it to use as serum for next day as well. I would not recommend trying to reuse/rehydrate the sheet mask with it eventho the sheet is sturdy, because there's not enough serum for the sheet to absorb and you won't get an even application. If you want to wash it and soak it in ~.5oz of your other essence for a DIY sheet mask, I won't stop you. The ingredients for the sheet mask are fantastic. No junk like fragrance or paraben but plenty of good stuff. It's got Meadowfoam Seed Oil, Niacinamide, Squalane and hyaluronic acid to moisturize/strengthen the skin as well as various plant extracts for brightening/antiaging. Spoiler (Highlight to read) The ingredients weren't very readable in the picture, so here's the ingredients: Water, Glycerin, Limnanthes Alba (Meadowfoam Seed Oil), Citrullus Vulgaris (Watermelon), Lens Esculenta (Lentil) Fruit Extract, Lens Esculenta (Lentil) Seed Extract, Pyrus Malus (Apple) Fruit Extract, Niacinamide, Squalane, Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate, Sodium Lactate, Sodium Hyaluronate, Sodium PCA, Cetearyl Alcohol, Dimethicone, Potassium Cetyl Phosphate, Disodium EDTA, Sodium Hydroxide, Carbomer, Hexylene Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Caprylyl Glycol, Phenoxyethanol. Picture of it on my face, it does stick to the face, but doesn't adheres as close to the skin as possible: The ingredients weren't very readable in the picture, so here's the ingredients:Water, Glycerin, Limnanthes Alba (Meadowfoam Seed Oil), Citrullus Vulgaris (Watermelon), Lens Esculenta (Lentil) Fruit Extract, Lens Esculenta (Lentil) Seed Extract, Pyrus Malus (Apple) Fruit Extract, Niacinamide, Squalane, Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate, Sodium Lactate, Sodium Hyaluronate, Sodium PCA, Cetearyl Alcohol, Dimethicone, Potassium Cetyl Phosphate, Disodium EDTA, Sodium Hydroxide, Carbomer, Hexylene Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Caprylyl Glycol, Phenoxyethanol.Picture of it on my face, it does stick to the face, but doesn't adheres as close to the skin as possible: The sheet masks are $10 each. It's got great ingredients and if the sheet adheres more closely to the skin, then I'd say it's perfect. I do like the serum/essence very much, but I like the sheet from Karuna and When masks better. Often times brands fill their product with junk trying to look fancy, or hike up the price for being all natural. Skin Laundry has pretty simple ingredients lists filled with good stuff and appropriately/reasonably priced. My combination skin enjoys it very much. Thank you Sephora/BeautyTalk for the opportunity to give this brand a try! Skin Laundry: http://www.sephora.com/skin-laundry?node=1050055
I have red patchy skin and uneven skin tone. What are some suggestions of what I can use that won't cause my skin to break out? I have combination skin but it's slightly sensitive because some products cause breakouts. I would love to not feel like I need to wear makeup every single day to get rid of the redness and unevenness.
