The Question Thread: Because not all questions need their own thread.

I'm making this thread because I simply don't want to create a new thread for every little question that pops into my head, nor do I think that most questions need a separate topic.

I had previously just dropped whatever random question that came to mind into the Random Thread (thanks jemly!), but I had been thinking about starting this for a while and figured I'd give it a shot to see if it could be of any use.

I'm well aware that the people who could best utilize this thread will likely remain completely oblivious to it, but if it can consolidate even a small fraction of questions -- and maybe even generate some interesting conversations both beauty and non-beauty related -- that seems worthwhile.

Official thread mascots: The Curious Puppies.upload_5938777889175560105.gif

Official thread anti-mascot: Lucille Bluth.

It probably would've been wise of me to have a relatively inane question to use as an example and kick this thread off...

Well, since I apparently don't have any pressing questions, I'll start with this two-parter:

What's your favorite drug store nail polish shade AND which official mascot puppy is your favorite? Bonus/Extra Credit: What's it's name?

Re: The Question Thread: Because not all questions need their own thread.

@kromance I have used it and have combo skin (more normal in winter). It is good for a temporary hydration boost. The mist is very fine and cooling (extra nice in the summer). It doesn't make me more or less oily and the water on my face will absorb/evaporate in 5-10 mins.

@bonafide11

Thank you for the reply Smiley Happy.. I think if anything i will probably purchase the smallest size to see how it fares with the my skin.   Do you recommend any other facial mists - specifically to use after acids treatments to help combat the dryness?

@kromance I really like Josh Rosebrook's Hydrating Accelerator. It's great for anytime. Recently picked up the Dr Dennis Gross C + collagen mist and enjoying that so far.

This is a random question, but I need help from DIY people! I know if I want a lighter color, you should mix white.

If im making a custom lipstick, how do I make the color brighter? Not lighter.

For example, less say it's a muted pink color, what colors/pigments should I add to make it a bright (not lighter) pink? I hope this makes sense. Thank you!

Re: The Question Thread: Because not all questions need their own thread.

@pinyo hopefully someone else can chime in with a better suggestion, but think yellow is what you're looking for!  Estee edit bas a lipstick brightener called "turn up" if you wanna google before/after photos. It's baaasically a yellow lipstick. The thing is.. it seems to still lighten the color a bit Smiley Sad Not sure how to fix that

Ohhh maybe it is yellow! I'll have to buy some yellow pigment and give that a try. Thank you @whitepolkydots

Re: The Question Thread: Because not all questions need their own thread.

@pinyo If you're wanting to make pink brighter, add a brighter pink. You're totally right that white will make it lighter. Yellow will make it a orange. Pink is red and white mixed, so if you think of adding yellow to red, you get orange. Pink and yellow will make a form or orange depending on what pigments you use, a quite muddy orange to a coral. So in your case, you're going to want to amp up the pink with a brighter pink.

Ever since getting the sample of Peony the other day as a promo code I've been transfixed on this brand. I want to get a full size bottle but don't know which scent is the best. I saw Amazon had a sample set for like $35 but I've had bad dealings with Amazon in the past, and that's for household stuff. Should I risk not getting an accurate read on the brand going through Amazon or does anyone else have any ideas on how to sample her scents? I went to my local Nordstroms and they do not carry the line in store. The closest place to me is Richmond and that's a bit of a hike just to smell some things. Any recommendations would be appreciated. I cross posted this in the jo malone thread because this one gets more traffic but the other one might help others if someone answers my question?

@liv545

If you're in no rush to try them and this may not be helpful, but I suggest going on the trade thread to request for samples. I know nordstrom sometimes has jo malone in the sample section but it comes and goes.

Edit: Check out @Madeline7's post on the deal thread

Also, if you need help, go to the Fragrance thread

The ladies there are wonderful and helpful!!

Re: The Question Thread: Because not all questions need their own thread.

@lisainprogress that is a great idea!! It isn't a rush by any means. I won't die from lack of immediate smellygoods. I'm going to check my stash for tradeables when I get home and then post on the trade thread. We're currently en route back from the airport.

Has anyone else tried the Ulta full coverage waterproof concealer? I used it yesterday for the first time and WOW it covered everything and didn't crease at all the entire night!

Gift Card Users - Buyer Beware!

I don't know if it's a Canadian only thing, but if you make an online purchase with a gift card and need to return the item the stores then the store will only issue STORE CREDIT and will not put it back on your gift card.

Just learned that the hard way when returning a birthday prezzie.I had the receipt, I even had my gift card with me because I had a remaining balance. Both the cash supervisor AND the store manager said it was now their policy.

Re: The Question Thread: Because not all questions need their own thread.

Not sure if Sephora store credit is the same as Ulta store credit where it can't be used online. But I had a similar issue with Ulta. Used a giftcard from Christmas to order something online at Ulta not available in stores. Color wasn't for me, returned it and was given store credit and told I could use it online to purchase a new color. Not true. Thankfully, I called customer service and they were able to re-issue the amount to an e-gift card so I could use it online. Worth a shot to see if Sephora would do something similar!

Re: The Question Thread: Because not all questions need their own thread.

Although I haven't contributed to BT in quite some time, I've continued to follow a number of threads and am confident that I'm asking advice from the right kind of folks here. Smiley Happy

ANYWAY, I'm looking to order (during the sale, of course) the best black lipstick that Sephora has to offer.  Haha, big dilemma.. I know. But I've more or less narrowed it down to two: KVD Witches, and UD Perversion. Although I'd be down to try another brand/formula, these two seem to be the top-runners.

Would anyone care to weigh in their opinion? I really enjoy KVD's liquid lip formula, but I also like that the Vice formula (comfort matte, bullet) gives me the option to reapply if needed.

TLDR: ISO black lipstick from Sephora website. Nothing says spring like a matte black lip, right?

Thanks in advance! Smiley Happy

I'd go with the Kat Von D. The formula lasts forever, and it doesn't smear which is a fear I always have with lipstick. I also think the KVD is more opaque and bold, and it won't need to be reapplied. I also prefer the matte finish for a black lip, but it's up to you.

Re: The Question Thread: Because not all questions need their own thread.

@AllysonJo I'd go with Kat Von D. Her liquid lips don't transfer the way regular lipstick can and with a black lip that may be more relevant of an issue to consider? Just my opinion though.

There's a few Tom ford lipstick and boys I want.

I'd prefer to buy them during the November 20% off sale, but I can't decide if I should get them in the upcoming 15% off.

Will the collection be around until late November? Smiley Happy

Re: The Question Thread: Because not all questions need their own thread.

@pinyo that's debatable.

tf refreshes the lips and boys in November, usually around thanksgiving.

in previous years they have kept 25 of the bestselling shades, retired the other 25 shades and introduced 25 new shades (because there are always 50 shades total)

so, it probably depends which ones you want. If they're some of the 25 most popular, chances are they will still be around/brought back again.

You could also grab them from Saks when they run one of their higher % off codes if you're worried about them not lasting until November.

@Mochapj Thank you! I'm most interested in getting jack, Ryan, and snowdon.

Those 3 probably aren't the most popular 25 in the collection, right?

Re: The Question Thread: Because not all questions need their own thread.

@pinyo those 3 were all part of the 'new' boys released in 2016, so I'm not sure whether they are popular sellers yet.
