exfoliation??

I'm 29 and have combo skin (more oily lately) with....adult acne.  I've recently adopted a skincare ritual (am and pm) in hopes of achieving smoother facial skin.  I'm done using salycilic acid and benzol peroxide.  Used them for years, and all they did was bleach all my hand towels, and leave me with dry skin (ie: dry acne).  So i've been using philosophy's products, including help me, hope is not...serum, and i will switch off btwn a tea tree oil face wash and purity.  I feel i can't use a moisturizer because my face just feels super greasy and oily after, so i don't.  I'm sure you're wondering where my question is:  so i was just introduced to bare minerals foundation.....jury is still out, wore it today for the first time.  Wondering how effective the skincare line is??  Also, considering my skin type, which exfoliating product would be best for my skin:  philosophy's or bare minerals powder one?  Anyone have any tips??

i've become a bit of a skin care junkie, but i just want to find a regimine that WORKS!!!  ANY advice would be appreciated.

thanks!

Has anyone tried PETER THOMAS ROTH "Renova Fusion Serum"?  Hear great results !

Also has anyone found that VITAMIN C adds a "GLOW" to the skin.

Re: exfoliation??

I recommend using the clinique 3-step skincare routine it works wonders and helps my skin tons! For exfoliating i reccomend the bliss pore scrub which is $30 but well worth it! You use a tiny amount and scrub your skin lightly. This is a short answer but also if you use clinique toner then that is "chemical" exfoliating without harsh chemicals

PHILOSOPHY!  All the way. :smileyhappy:  In one month, this brand has transformed my combo/acne-cursed skin.  In the morning, I use Purity Made Simple.  After my face dries (very important!), I use the one-minute enzyme peel...and then use the Hope oil-free moisturizer.  At night, I use Purity again...then follow with Help Me.  This routine has truly transformed my face.

I assure you the peel is my best weapon. :smileyhappy:  It smells good and is much gentler than other peels I've used.  I actually watched Christina (brand owner) talk about this product on a QVC video before I bought it at Sephora, and I suggest you do the same.  She explains how the acids in the peel work to rid your skin of unwanted junk -- from acne to dry skin to wrinkles to large pores.  I can verify that what she says is true.  My dry patches are gone.  Acne is gone.  Pores are teeny tiny.  For the first time in a long time, I can go out in public without make-up...and people don't look at me like a freak. :smileyhappy:

Hope this info helps!  Good luck! :smileyhappy:

Re: exfoliation??

One product I really like from Bare Esentuals is the skin revver upper; it does contain salicylic acid as well as glycolic acid.  I think the culprit with bleaching is actually benzyol peroxide.  If your skin breaks out I do think for nighttime using Help Me from Philosophy would be helpful.  I have been using Bare Minerals makeup for about ten years and for my skin type, oily with pores that can become congested, it works really well.  I'm not sure if using the serum at your age with oily skin is necessary.  The Help may be enought at night.  But, I would look into an oil free product with SPF in it for daytime to use under the Bare Minerals to boost your sun protection.  I like oil free Hope with SPF 30.

Using "acne ingredients" isn't always the best method. The foundation of good skin is clean skin and how balanced it is with oils.  Therefore, i do not think using a full line of acne ingredients is the answer. Boscia's oil free day/night moisturizers are very gentle and controls oil. it does not contain additional acne or chemical ingredients to over dry or irritate the skin. Their Gel foaming cleanser is sulfate free and very gentle. I also urge you to stay away from any foaming cleansers that come in a tube that squeezes out like a thick toothpaste because those cleansers require a lot of chemicals to make them foam up so much! A lot of my friends with very oily or acne skin will use these cleansers because they think it takes all the oils out. Well, it does, and that's why they end up with dry/red/itchy skin. Another good exfoliator product is Amore Pacific Treatment Enzyme Peel.

Re: exfoliation??

Hello Lacnpt,

Bare Minerals Matte Foundation which is geared towards oily skin types has been reported to cause breakouts due to the BISMUTH which it contains.  I tried Bare Minerals last year and I did experience breakouts and I discontinued using it and had to switch to another cosmetic line for foundation.  However if it works for you that is great!

As for a very good moisturizer, Mario Badescu Skincare has a very effective one called Control Moisturizer for Oily Skin.   Even oily skin needs a moisturizer.  By using a moisturizer which is specifically for oily skin, it will regulate the oil output from your oil glands and your oil glands will not produce so much oil to compensate for the oil lost when you use drying skin care products. Mario Badescu Skincare and also Isomers Skincare has very effective products for oily and acne prone skin type which are not drying to the skin.  These products can be found on the websites which have their names as listed above if you are interested.( Just an FYI both of these skincare lines do use salicylic acid but do not use benzoyl peroxide in their acne skincare products).

As for controlling the acne, it could be that you were using the wrong type of products and that does have an affect on your skin's ph level.  When the skin's ph level is off balance it is a favorable environment for bacteria to grow and spread and result in acne.    Hope this info helps you and good luck!:smileyhappy:

I have acne-prone skin and I'm in my early 20s. I use Everyday Minerals because it's natural and it doesn't have cornstarch, which can cause bacteria if you come into contact with something damp. I've read that people get breakouts from Bare Minerals. As for exfoliating product, try Philosophy first because you are using their other products anyway. I hope this somewhat helped!
