what makeup products do you carry in your purse?

I cant put this in the Lounge board, so I chose makeup. I realized that I carry an enormous amount of makeup in my bag and hardly use most of it. I tend to have to throw it out before its nearly used. I realized this after attempting to downsize my purse and realized that I need a bigger bag than normal bc of the makeup bag I carry. Its easier to downsize my wallet than my makeup bag unfortunately. I tried to get rid of some things, but theres always the what if I need it? mentality that keeps me from getting rid of it. I carry foundation, mineral setting powder, 3 eyeliners, tweezers, about 10 lipglosses (my addiction), blush, mini eyeshadows and brushes, concealer, a tube of lipstick, a compact, hairspray, 5 sample tubes of mascara, about 5 or so samples of perfume, various bobby pins and hair ties, hand lotion and face moisturizer, manicure kit, and I just found the lip plumper I bught but forgot where I kept it. Im sure Im leaving something out, but still...this is too much. Very rarely do I need to completely start from scratch and do my makeup outside of my home when going somewhere. HELP! what do you keep in ur purse?

Tinted moisturizer or BB cream, mini-mascara, and several lipglosses are the constants. I recently bought the Smashbox Decades of Style set, and it has everything needed for a few different looks - I just have to grab my blush brush and double ended eye brush! Also love Benefit's concealing sets for on-the-go, and Urban Decay's powder is the best for application with no mirror thanks to the built-in sponge!

Edit: And a rollerball - how could I forget! Lately it has been Acqua di Gioia.

I always try to carry as little as possible in my purse, and I rotate the colors around depending on the season and the look I'm currently into. I can't go without two lipsticks, one lipgloss-- Couture Shine Liquid Lipstick in Trend Setter right now, currently, a neutral palette eyeshadow for touch-ups-- currently Starry-Eyed Baked Eye Shadow Trio in LORACstar along with a smallish travel brush, Lancome dual face poweder, my current tester size of mascara, and a black eyeliner pencil. It all fits pretty nicely into a smallish makeup bag. On top of that, Ihave to have a brush, bobby pins, and a hair clip. I have horribly thin, fine hair, so not matter how I start out, the hair always goes up by mid day.

Hey! Oh my gosh carrying a makeup bag with me has become and ABSOLUTE essential. I would feel naked without it! I have a medium sized bag that I always have with me, I keep inside 1x concealer, 1x mini blush brush, 1x mattifying pressed powder because I get oily during the day, 1x mattifying mist to prevent oiliness as much as possible,2x lipgloss, 2x lipstick, 1x black eyeliner, 1x eyelash curler, 2x mascaras, 3x min-sample perfumes, 1x primer, 1x foundation, 1x blush, a dozen bobby pins, and hair elastics AND i think that's all! PHEW! There are people who carry a ton more than that but these are my little essentials for now! They change constantly so who knows!

Great topic makeupobsessed! :smileyhappy:

I carry Laura Merier Smooth Focus Pressed Setting Powder and C.O. Bigelow Mentha Supreme Lip Shine (available at Bath & Body Works) in my purse. I carry whatever lip gloss I'm wearing that day in my pocket.

About 500,000 lip products. :smileyvery-happy:

I keep a little atomizer of perfume and some lotion in there too, as well as this nice hand sanitizer I got from Conscious Box a few months ago before I cancelled.

Right now I  also have the little Origins VitaZing & Dr Jart BB cream from the sun safety kit and some blotting papers in there as well.

Re: what makeup products do you carry in your purse?

What a great topic!

There are times when I look at my vanity table and wonder how in the world I managed to accumulate so much stuff.  It used to be a real struggle not to take darn near everything with me to work or to not become paranoid whenever I traveled for fear I left something behind that I really needed.  I've managed to downsize to a smaller cosmetic bag and simplify things a bit.

It really helps that a lot of things now come in sleek packages or tubes which make them easier to carry and less bulky.  For everyday, I typically keep my Boscia oil blotting papers inside of a leather case with a mirror in my purse so that I can get to it rather quickly.  In my cosmetic bag, I usually have a powder like the MAC Mineralize Satinfinish natural for quick touch-ups; my NARS blush;a tube of Clinique line smoothing concealer; MAC lip pencils and Lipglass; a tube of Estee Lauder High Gloss; Clinique Superbalm moisturizing gloss; a retractable lip pencil by MAC; a blush/bronzer brush; and the MUFE kabuki brush which has its own little carrying case; and a miniature or sample of my favorite fragrances.  I never worry about my eye makeup because it lasts all day thanks to the great primer I'm using.

If I'm attending an evening event and carrying a small clutch, I typically have my oil-blotting papers, a lip pencil, a lipstick/gloss and a miniature of my fragrance.  Most of my clutches come with a mirror so that's one less thing I have to pack.

Now when I travel, I'll include an eyeshadow palette that's versatile enough to take me from daytime to evening looks; eyeliner pencils; mascara; tweezers; setting spray; setting powder; mascara; makeup brushes; hairpins; a scarf; a flat iron and dry oil for sheen.

Re: what makeup products do you carry in your purse?

a flat iron!

Thanks missjr. I've been meaning to buy one not only to fix stray hairs, but also because it can be used to iron collar and between the buttons where actual irons won't fit. It annoys the hell out of me when I have to wear button down shirt and it's all sleek and smooth except between the buttons and collar cuz I was lazy about hanging it up.

Re: what makeup products do you carry in your purse?

Oh, I totally forgot I carry a baby flat iron in my bag also. I guess after reading some of ur posts, I don't feel quite as bad as I did. I also used to do my makeup and never look at it until evening, but when my friend ntroduced me to Sephora, that all ended. I find myself getting a bigger purse to accommodate my makeup bag. I will definitely downsize by starting with a smaller bag and going from there.

This is a fun topic! I recently tried to switch to a smaller purse and smaller makeup bag. It just means I cram in EVERYTHING super tightly together hahaha :smileyhappy:

-mirror

-blotting sheets

-pressed powder

-powder brush

-lip balm

-lipgloss

-lipliner

-eyeliner backup

-lipstick

-extra sharpener

-hand cream/lotion and sanitizer

-qtips for smudging and fixing makeup mistakes

Re: what makeup products do you carry in your purse?

Oh fun topic! I always have my emergency stash because sometimes I leave my house entirely too early to do my makeup.

This is one of the reasons I LOVE the minis.

BB Cream

mascara

eyeliner

bronzer

eyeshadow

2 eyeshadow brushes and 1 bronzer brush

Then I usually have a few choices of lipcolor because I always forget to switch them out.

Re: what makeup products do you carry in your purse?

Love the topic, I'm actually just going through a purse 'transition' from big bags to small-medium sized ones so my products really change on a daily basis.

When I have a medium or larger sized purse I typically carry:

Pressed powder

Makeup brushes

Eyeliner (nude & black)

Lipsticks (usually I forget to switch my lipsticks out so it's not uncommon for me to have 4-5 tubes)

Mini lipgloss (Buxom's Leslie, which typically looks great on top of any lipstick)

Lip balm

Mascara

Dior lash plumping serum

My brow kit (includes tweezers, brow pencil, brow powder, stencils, and brow gel)

When I have a smaller purse/clutch:

Pressed powder

Lipstick/gloss

Eyeliner (if I have room for it)

Whimsically yours,

Re: what makeup products do you carry in your purse?

I have a small(ish) makeup bag in my purse, and believe it or not, all of the following fits:

Powder

Eyeliner
Mascara

Blush

Lipstick

Eyeshadow

Most of the time, I have 2-3 lipsticks / glosses, two shades of blush, a few eyeshadows, etc.

When I absolutely have to pare down (for instance, if I have a clutch and can't take a makeup bag), I will always have:

Powder (or blotting sheets, if I have them)

Lipstick

Eyeliner

(and mascara if it fits! I leave out blush compacts, which can be bulky; lipstick can always be dotted on the cheeks in a pinch).

I know how you feel.  I used to carry my makeup bag everywhere I went and I never did my makeup anywhere except my home.  Here's what I did to help myself:

1) get a smaller sized bag than the one you carry now but know the size you need (say if you go to school and you need to carry books and stuff)

2) dump everything out of your bag, just turn over and dump don't take them out yourself b/c you run the risk of loosing focus on what your goal is when you start looking at your stuff (recipts, keys, shiny pens, the hair clip you've been looking for for like a week, etc.)

3) ready the bag you plan on using and take the stuff you actually need out of the pile (keys, wallet, checks) and start placing in the bag

4) if you have room then start with things for emergency such as bandaids, sanitizer, extra set of house keys, deoderant

5) if you still have room either allow yourself to add something like perfume or lotion or maybe a lipgloss or chapstick

This helped me really just take the stuff I needed and since I've broken the habit of taking extra stuff with me.  Anytime I feel inclined to add something I don't think I need I ask myself "Do I need this?" and then picture myself digging out my wallet in front of people with all the extra stuff I have.

Now I just keep a Victorias Secret Bombshell spray (which I'm gonna switch to a deodarant mini spray from Dove), my wallet, my checkbook, sanitizer, eyedrops, and a small medicine bag for asprin, heartburn, etc.  Hope this helps!

I tend to just bring any lip product as long as it's somewhat moisturizing, a hair tie or two, and hand cream! That's all I really need!

[ Edited ]

Ha, I used to just do make up in the morning then ignore until at night. But now I have a make up kit stashed at the office for impromptu social functions. The make up kit consist of:

- sheer matte pressed powder (even out skintone, keeps my combo skin matte and finishing powder)

- mascara

- lash curler

- red lip pencil and moderate sheer lip gloss (lip pencil + balm for a lipstick look for business social, lip gloss for fun social)

- 1 palm size eyeshadow compact (an Estee Lauder GWP that goes great with my brown eyes)

- 1 black eyeliner (if I want lighter shade, I'll just apply a thin line of the darker eyeshadow instead)

+ multiple Q-tips

+ some kleenex/nakpins.

- facial spray, refreshing, sets make up, but mostly because office is really really dry in the winter

Stuff I actually keep in the purse:

- lip balm with SPF15, great for the flaky spot on the face that you only see after a make up application.

- lip gloss

- hand lotion

- some perfume samples I liked.

- 1 black hairband and 1 black hair clip

So there's my office drawer kit and on the go kit. I carry both when occasion arises. Any more elaborate than that, I do at home.

If by help you mean advice, here's my 2 cents:

- since you've got concealer, leave foundation for at home application. Some make up artists actually use concealer as foundation.

- anything you need to do with a tweezer and manicure you can do at home no? so leave them at home, except maybe taking a nail file for emergency snags.

- depends on your complexion, you may be able to use lipstick as a substitute for blush.

- I'm sure you can reduce down the lip gloss or mascara to just 2 or 3 (business, casual, party or something).

- leave facial moisturizer at home. Use facial spray to moisturizer and set make up. If the cheek is dry, I just apply lotion to hand, then pat/press my cheeks.

- For stuff you want to have on hand but don't want to carry, leave them in your office drawer or the car.

I generally have hand moisturizer (I have dry skin and my hands get dry and crack very easily otherwise), a couple of hair elastics, Clinique Almost Powder foundation for touchups, Supergoop Sunscreen Swipes or a powder sunscreen, and a ton of lipglosses and/or lipsticks.  Probably about 10-15 in there.  I think I might have a nail clipper in there somewhere, but I'm not sure.  That's pretty much it.  I still have to use my big Coach purse lately though, since I'm pregnant.  I need somewhere to store a bottle of water and a couple of snacks just in case!

Really though, out of everything you listed, you really only need a powder compact, a couple of lip colors and the hand moisturizer.  Sunscreen too.
