I've just gotten home from a quick trip to the doctor, and even though it was just to get some meds for a sore throat, I was dreading it for the same reason I always dread going to the doctor: I have to be weighed. As usual, the number wasn't one I like. I've struggled with losing and accepting my weight for years. It's like there's this voice in the back of my head that's always telling me how fat I am, and how I'll never find love in a body like this. You know, the typical thing. I'm really bad at turning to friends and family for help in this area, mostly because I feel like they don't understand. (I mean, how could my friend who complains about too many boys wanting to date her understand what it's like to be fat and unlovable? How could my sister in law, who works out for fun understand my lack of motivation?) So, I thought, maybe a support thread would be a good idea for all of us, because I know I'm not alone in this. Use this for whatever you feel the need. Whether you're looking for support on your weight loss/gain journey or you just want to spread a little love. Feel free to share you stories, good or bad, and maybe we can all help each other be a little more accepting of ourselves.
**I wrote this a while back but it kept saying there was profanity so it took me a while to find the one word that was preventing this from getting posted.** To be totally honest, I really wasn't expecting to actually LIKE Formula X, let alone develop a major crush. I thought that Formula X, being Sephora's in-house nail polish brand, would be equivalent to bad drugstore nail polish. And that I wouldn't waste money on such nonsense. And then, courtesy of Sephora and Formula X and BeautyTalk, I received a mystery package. You guessed it, it was Formula X's The System To Go (with colour shade Alive). I told myself I had to try it because I wanted to be on the anti-hype train. But the opposite sort of happened. For a Xmas mani, I decided on trying out The System with that VIB Rouge Formula X renewal shade from who even knows how long ago. So this review is about everything except the colour in this set. Cleanse: I thought this could be better. The brush was way too small but perfectly sized in all the other bottles. I thought it was essentially nail polish remover. It strips the nail of oils so that your base coat sticks right onto your nails. I could use the bottle of crappy nail polish remover I have sitting around for this instead of spending 13$ on a little polish jar. For the price, I expect to have a large bottle of it. Even my favourite OPI remover costs less. Prime: I actually really liked this. It applied very well to my nails and it dried quickly (and clear). It did a great job of prepping my nail for colour application. The colour caught on to the base really well and wasn't streaky. I'm still wearing my mani but I'm hoping my nails won't be stained when I remove it. I think I like this as much as I love my all-time favourite Essie base coat!!! VIB Rouge renewal colour: So I haven't tried Alive, which came with my set. I went for red because I wanted to have a Xmas vibe going on. The polish applied really well and stuck right onto the base coat with no hassle. It was even pretty darn opaque with just one coat. With two, it was perfect. No streaky mess. No bubbling! Yay! I have to say I really really love the polish. Shine: I usually have very bad experiences with top coats so I wasn't expecting much. I applied two coats just to be sure that it was indeed "fast-drying". Which it actually turned out to be so yay! I didn't wake up with smudges or blanket fluff on my nails!! It sealed in the colour quickly and dried quickly and thoroughly, which is what I need in a so-called fast drying top coat. Also, no bubbles, which is a huge plus. It didn't do any of that weird shrinking of the polish stuff when it dried. I have the perfect mani. My all-time favourite top coat is Essie's Good To Go and this is the first time that any top coat has even come close. I did my nails around 5-6 days ago and I only have slight chipping on the very edge of the nails that isn't visible. My nails still look like I just did them, except for the little bit where my nail has grown out lol. All in all, I quite enjoyed this set a lot more than I thought I would. For some reason, my mother and I just had this impression that Formula X would be awful and we were both so very impressed with the performance of these polishes that we might actually start buying them. The only con is the price point. I can get polishes with the same quality for a lot less. Formula X ranges from 13-18 and I can get Essie for 8-9 and OPI for 10. I just don't think it's feasible unless they have a very unique colour that I can't find elsewhere. The high price is a turn-off for me. As for this set, it could have been a bit cheaper but was still a decent price if you are like me and didn't want to take the full plunge into the sea of Formula X. If you have nothing to lose, get the full-size version of The System because you save a lot more $$$.
I had a bad injury and can't really go to school, and was wondering if anyone knew if this is actually a useful site? Is it sufficient enough to get lets say a job at sephora? Now I am aware that you do not need to be a certified MUA to work at sephora, but will it help, and with other job opportunities as well?
Hello ladies, I recently just completed the course requirements for my bachelors degree. Today I got a call from a job that applied for and they want me to come in for an interview! Eeeeee!!!! I'm so excited and so scared (I REALLY want this job). I've only had a few interviews before and this is the first one I've had for a full time permanent position. If any of you have some kind words of advice to help me prepare, I'd appreciate it very much! <3
When you’ve been strong for too long and need some support and advice, I’ve found that third party sources from a trusted community is one of the easiest and best ways to receive that. As some of you know, in October last year I got engaged to my boyfriend of three years. Last night was the conclusion to a steep decline in our relationship. Last year, he became very depressed and had a psychotic episode to which we got him help for. He was admitted to the psychiatric hospital for about two week which seemed to ground him and bring him back to the man I fell in love with. The root of this cause was alcohol and very low self-esteem. Though he was on the upswing for about a week, there was a rapid decline in his mood. He has developed an aggression toward me which has made me feel very unsafe to be alone with him. He was advised by a doctor to avoid alcohol at all costs while on this medication as the side effects are severe. Over the past few weeks he has lied to be about his whereabouts and I found out that he was going to bars alone and drinking (and driving). Last night we had an explosive argument and decided to call it quits. I thought I would be more angry than sad at this point, but I just can’t believe that he would choose something like alcohol over someone that you want to spend the rest of your life with. It is heart wrenching to see someone who is generally so loving and caring transform into an aggressive, angry, violent man. The next few months are going to be extremely difficult. We bought a pre-construction home in Oakville together and now have to begin the painful process of parting ways. I’m only one person and there is only so much I can take. I’m not looking for attention, just a way to openly vent about the situation. Thanks for listening.
I have wanted to dye my hair purple since I was in middle school (started 6th grade in 2005) first I wanted a plum purple but for the last 6 or so years I have wanted lilac. And now I am also wanting to go for a dark sapphire blue. The thing is I am too much of a scaredy cat, I have never done anything to my hair. I love my natural colors, and I really need to work on nursing it back to health from too much hot tools. I have been thinking about getting a wig or two and dying it/them. Where should I start? I do most of my shopping online, so if I could get a wig online, that would be ideal. I know I need human hair to be able to dye it (plus that looks better) and I would really like one relatively close to my length. I have pretty long hair, it goes down to my belly button.
Thanks for all the hearts. It's neat how I realized BT was a 'thing' only a few months ago and now I'm completely addicted. Lately I haven't been so involved due to personal things but thanks so much for all the hearts and making me feel so welcome and involved in the community! I really love BT for discussing makeup, beauty, and everything in-between. It's so cool. Just wanted to say thanks and it's nice to know there is a community where people can ask questions and not feel 'dumb' nor feel excluded....<3 Cheers!!!
Hello, people! With 2016 already being a fact, what are your personal makeup goals for this year? Experimenting with techniques you haven't tried out yet or maybe giving a go to a new product? Share your thoughts here!
Hi BTers with glasses I have a question, my prescription is gonna be renewed soon so that means new glasses, any recommendations for glasses types that don't hide or even enhance your makeup looks? are there any shapes/colors/materials you've found work well with your varied makeup looks or any that didn't work at all? Personal stories and pic are definitely welcome. Thanx for any help you can provide!
Does anyone have any thoughts on this program? It's an online program costing around $300 to become makeup artist certified with famous online coaches like iluvsarahii and patrickstarrr. The part that tempts me are all the pro discounts they say you can get afterward: anastasia, becca, bobbi brown, cover fx, giorgio armani, illamasqua, koh gen do, laura mercier, mac, make up for ever, nars, tarte, urban decay, ysl, etc. which are between 10%-50% off. Anybody have any experience about this or know if its worth the money? Thanks!
I'm doing a project for a school subject about statistics and i need to know what the benefits of buying a designer brand such as Sephora is better than buying drug store brand makeup and how it's worth the money that it's being sold for.
So, recently (as in 2 days ago) I packed my liquid like a pro, but I still got pulled over for a complete carryon check (purse and suitcase.) The offenders? Rouge G lipsticks. Apparently too heavy, and have a menacing shape Seriously LOL, UP NOTE - got through after the agent realized the whole automatic mirror thing is brilliant, not threatening. In fact, she loved it so much, she showed everyone in the (small) airport how genius it really is. Except for the part of triggering a potential international situation. LOL!!!!! Anyway, what's your hilarious airport security holdup?
Hi all! Hope you babes are having a wonderful New Year!! So I am taking my first vacation in several years (read: 8) and am super excited! In late April I'll be leaving for Gatlinburg, TN. So far, I know I'm packing my shampoo/conditioner and sunscreen, but that's about it. I need a super quick/easy hair and makeup look I can pull off before I leave the hotel without looking too shabby (think model-off-duty). I'm naturally fair skinned (but will be tanning before I leave) and my hair isn't not straight but it's not wavy so it's hard to wear natural. (I'm thinking about trying Bumble & Bumble Don't Blow It Styler). What do you lovelies recommend? Also, any packing tips or other vacation hacks will be greatly appreciated
Thank you Sephora for getting me those missed point perk gifts! I know there have been true complaints on customer service, but you really came through for what I had planned to call and didn't have to in the end (my December's and one November's ((or October's?)) hadn't shown up until today) . Spending points can be a tough decision and using them for a year of the 500 point perks packages made me indecisive. I got everything I was promised, so thank you! P.S. On my bucket list is to travel to N.Y.C. just to go to Bite Beauty's store and make a lipstick. Please have more of Bite Beauty point perks. I could die and go to heaven! Sincerely, Katelyn011
Here's a question just for fun, if you had one sephora related wish (like for a discontinued item to be brought back, a feature to be added to the rewards program, for sephora to start carrying a certain line/brand, or ect...) what would it be and why?
With just a few hours left in the year, I would like to say thank you to those BTers that continue to inspire me, and for those that take the time to share their knowledge, experiences and other helpful information with all of us. Thank you for another wonderful year and here's to 2016!!! Cheers!! Love Bee <3
So, I posted a pet peeve yesterday about a shopping experience. I usually like to balance my negative stuff with positive, so I don't feel quite as guilty. (My capacity for guilt is legendary.) Anywho, I thought it might be nice to make a thread where we can post about shopping experiences that wowed us no matter where they happened. While my most recent positive experience was with Julep (mentioned elsewhere on BT), my absolute best shopping experience was with Kiyonna. Kiyonna makes really cute clothing that is actually cut to be flattering to plus size women. They make a lot of styles with three quarter length sleeves. Since I'm short with proportionally shorter arms, I especially appreciate three quarter length sleeves. They're not too long and hide my upper arms, which I'm terribly self conscious about. I wrote them a note thanking them for making so many flattering, workable styles, and they sent me a free top in my size with a note wishing me a more confident next year. Such a wonderful company! What are some of your positive customer service experiences?
Just curious. Sometimes I see brand new products on the sale page and other times it seems there are super old products that you can't find anywhere else...Are these products held onto in the warehouse and then put on the sale page to lure us consumers in?
I just received an email stating that I'd been tagged in a post! I was super excited because it's about time BT had that feature. (Am I way behind on this? Has it been going on for months and I just never knew?) Anywho, I'm going to tag people just for the heck of it. @sparklekai @mariahk83 @ghkim @mafan @killahbabe @roxystar4 @jellybean917
So only a couple of days until the big reveal! What are your guesses for whats under your tree? I'm honestly very stumped this year, as I didn't think of anything to ask for!, and the shapes are nondescript. I'm hoping for some makeup (obviously lol) maybe a sephora gift card, and things for my horse. What about you? Happy Holidays to Everyone! <3
Okay Canadians what's going on for boxing day? Any deals out there we should know of? Anything exciting? ? Post away ...hopefully there will be some great deals to post! And since we have had Black Friday in Canada does the US get boxing day or nah?

Hi guys! I bought a pack of Eos lip balm today when I went to Costco with my parents. I bought them them out of impulse because people rave about Eos but I already have a million other lip balms at home that will last me for the next 5 years. I thought they'd be cute to have in my car but I ended up not really liking the smell enough to want to keep them but I also don't want to throw them away because they are brand new and have never been used. Not even to try them out on my lips. I would return them however I already opened up the packaging and knowing retail they'll probably throw it away bc the packaging was open. I know a lot of people like Eos balms so I was wondering if any of you guys would want to buy it off of me or do a trade or maybe give away for free. Delete if this isn't allowed but I figured I'd ask since I don't want these to go to waste! Thanks guys!
