Overused Words/Phrases

[ Edited ]

Are there any phrases and/or words that you think are overused and are starting to bug the heck out of you? The one that is getting on my nerves the most is "curated". For example, "this makeup line was curated by our beauty editor." I just feel it's so over the top and pompous. Also, the word "sweet" instead of "cool". I actually heard a woman who had to be at least 75 years old using it. I laughed so hard I almost fell over.

I would also add swag to the list. I was over that term almost immediately. LOL

Boo.  As in "Me and my boo...".  I know it's a term of endearment but I hate it.

I sometimes call my husband boobear (we don't use each other's first names unless we're mad) and I hate myself for it.

I know it's not a popular opinion but I can't stand the word 'hubby'. It's like the suburban version of Bae. Makes my skin crawl, lol.

Girls actually do say OMG.  I couldn't believe it when I heard it.

I hate it when people talk, like, bad or whatever.  (Three for the price of one there!)

It's actually painful to listen to a sentence like that!

Re: Overused Words/Phrases

Good one.  It's bad enough when young people do it, but I dislike when older, educated people speak this way.

"I could care less"

Ok, then care less? Or did you mean could not care less? I heard this in a movie recently too and I was surprised by the mistake...unless it was to make the character look stupid.

I am guessing it was intentional.  The writer was trying to make the character look dumb.  Works in real life too.

Sounds like it worked lol

Re: Overused Words/Phrases

I'm more bothered by misuse of apostrophe's than any phrase's.  <----  Like this (cringing).  Confusing plural and possessive is more annoying.  Not trying to be the grammar police, but I just couldn't think of any phrases that bother me that much :smileyhappy:

Re: Overused Words/Phrases

The same people who use extra apostrophes tend to ignore commas.  I just want to take the "comma" from the top and move it to the bottom where it's needed.
