Maltipoo Makeup Look: Ocean Blue Smokey Eyes

Hi everyone!  I was inspired by the gorgeously pigmented blue shades of the Sephora Pantone Universe eyeshadow palette to create this blue smokey eye.  This look can be pretty intense, but can be toned down (but still dramatic enough) to be completely wearable for an evening out.  There are many optional stopping points for this look, so you can take it as far as you like.

1. Apply a pale sea green/pale turquoise eyeshadow to the inner 1/3 of the eye and the tearduct:

2. Apply a bright turquoise to the middle 1/3 of the lid (don't worry too much about blending yet-we'll do that in a minute):

3. Apply a darker turquoise to the outer 1/3 of the lid, and blend it into the crease as well (this is where you can blend the shades together-you should start to see a nice rainbow of colors):

5. I wanted to go a little darker, so I added a dot of dark blue shadow to the outer V of each eye.  Then, I took my pale turquoise shadow and patted it under the inner 1/3 of the bottom lashline.  I lined the middle 1/3 of the bottom lashline with the bright turquoise, and the outer 1/3 of the bottom lashline with the deeper turquoise:

6. You could leave it there and add some mascara, but I wanted some more definiton, so I lined my top lashline 3/4 of the way in with a mix of a navy blue and a black shadow.  I then lined the outer 2/3 of the bottom lashline with the same shade:

7. So again, you could just leave it there and add some mascara, but I still felt like something was missing...I added a pale highlight shadow on the browbone, and then decided to take a cool, medium purple (with strong blue undertones) and apply it just at the edge of my crease color.  This created a more dramatic rainbow, and I loved the effect.  I added a touch more of the purple just underneath the blue on my lower lashline, too.  Add some mascara and you're done!  Here's the finished look:

Hope you like it!  It looks more complicated than it actually is (blending is the key!), and I realized it pretty much follows the format of my grey smokey eye I posted recently, just with different colors.  Do you have a specific format (certain # of shadows and specific placement) when it comes to smokey eyes?  Talk to you soon!

Love it.  Excellent blending job.  I especially like the touch of purple.

I'm with Dianabt on this one, and I think this is your best look yet!  I've been playing with UD's Deep End, so I'm into blue at the moment.  Your looks are making me want to add that palette to my list lol.  Last time I was at my nearby Sephora, the tester was in a glass case.  How are customers supposed to swatch it when it's in a case?! lol

Hi Maltipoo66,

I have to say I think this is one of your best looks yet! I really love how you added the pearly looking sea green shade to the inner corners and how it makes the rest of the colors stand out! Very mermaid-like and gorgeous considering blues and greens are the two shades I have the toughest time mixing and using. Looks gorgeous and really makes your eyes stand out :smileyhappy:

Cute look!  Since I have been on my turquoise fascination, I've been wanting to try the blues in the Sephora + Pantone palette, now I have no excuse not to!  Did you see the article in Aug Allure about this palette?  It gives a bunch of ideas for the different colors in the Sephora + Pantone palette.

I'm going to try your idea tomorrow if my left eye is better.

Thanks for all your hard work.

@prettyinpa: I did see that article-it was so helpful, and very inspiring for creating new looks!  I hope your eye feels better soon.

@diana: thank you so much!!
