If you could invent a cosmetics line, what would be in it?

I would make a line that not only had awesome packaging, but that delivered results. I think mostly makeup with some skincare, but my makeup would have some properties in it that help your skin when you wear it(like the Neutrogena skin clearing makeup). There would be a lot of good lip products because I love lipgloss, really good mascaras that lengthen and thicken well, and definetly sparkly/shimmery stuff because it's fun! It would be priced between drugstore and high-end store prices so that everyone could buy it and it would be called something like BePretty or maybe Shine Cosmetics. I thought this was a fun topic for all you guys so tell me your good ideas:smileyhappy:

Re: If you could invent a cosmetics line, what would be in it?

I love this topic!

My line would be called La Femme Fatale and would feature cosmetics, skincare and fragrances.

1)  The facial cleanser would be a fragrance-free oily, yet dissolvable cleansing balm for the face and neck, which removes makeup and dirt (similar to Clinique’s Take the Day Off cleansing balm)

2)  My line would also feature a soap-free, gel-based cleanser that is gentle, yet cleanses skin so effectively that there is no need for a separate toner

3)  A gentle multi-purpose exfoliating scrub comprised of brown sugar, lemon juice and jojoba oil for the face, lips and décolletage

4)  SPF moisturizers formulated for all skin types

5)  Customers would be color-matched based on the four seasons (Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter) and then have a foundation and a concealer custom-blended for them based on their actual seasonal skin tones, undertones and other variables such as eye color, hair color, age, skin type and weather.  In addition, the foundations and concealers would be formulated to treat skin problems as well as conceal without exacerbating problems that already exist.  The custom-blended foundation and concealer formulas would then be kept in a database which would allow customers to re-order as needed.

6)  Similarly, customers would have the opportunity to have powders, lipsticks, glosses and lip stains custom designed just for them based on their color match.  This way the line would be able to appeal to anyone.

Ready-to-wear foundations, concealers, powders and lip products would be available for customers who don’t necessarily want a custom-blended formula.

7)  Fragrances would have a warm or cool base so that when applied, the scent will automatically adjust to the customer’s body chemistry.  For a few coins more, customers can have a scent created especially for them and their formula will be kept in a database.

Of course, all products would be cruelty-free and paraben free and come in sophisticated, eco-friendly packaging.

Wow! I really wish these existed! I don't know if I'd ever purchase from another line again:smileyhappy:

I would love to make natural makeup that was long lasting, delivered results and didnt put toxins into your body. I know that artificial SPF gives me breakouts so I cant use most makeup/skincare so I would love to have good makeup/skincare with natural SPF that delivered promised results.

I would name my line Lily Belle Cosmetics.

Re: If you could invent a cosmetics line, what would be in it?

If I were to invent a product line, it would have to be products that saved time by doing double duty or that had two products in one, such as a mascara and lip gloss stick, where one end was the masacara and the other end the lip gloss. That way it would save space in your bag. The products would be ideal for the gym or school bag, and be waterproof so you could get away with keeping it on if you worked out, and be reapplicable afterwards. There would also be a mirror attached so you could apply it on the run. Nothing too out of the ordinary, but I think stuff like this would make lives more convenient.

Re: If you could invent a cosmetics line, what would be in it?

I would make a cosmetic line that is super organized and varied, so that the products are easy to find, and so that there is always a shade for everyone.  For example, for foundations I would offer a large variety of skintones, with each basic shade offering in various undertones.  (like fair yellow, fair pink, fair beige, fair-light yellow, fair-light pink, fair-light beige, etc).  Not super exciting, but very efficient, since everyone is entitled to a perfect shade match.  I would use the same system for concealers.

For shadows, I would do single shadows with a huge range of highly pigmented colors (like Urban Decay), and then also offer duos and custom palettes.

One thing I would offer is a creat-your-own value set option.  This would be a discounted price for buying multiple shades within a product.  Sephora has several of these value sets, but many times they don't have one or two shades that I would use-it would be much more practical to pay that same price, but substituting shades you would definitely use.

I'm sure I'd have a blast coming up with product and shade names (but not like the slightly inappropriate Nars ones...)!

Re: If you could invent a cosmetics line, what would be in it?

With so much selection already out in the market, it would be a very long and thought out process before launching a new brand.  Lots of questions to ask as well.  To save complexity, everything that would need to be addressed from conception to distribution.  The big picture.

There are so many brands that do well with certain individual products that it would be a challenge (and expense) for a new one to stand out.  Word of mouth is great but would it compensate for marketing, distribution, contracts, etc.?  Would the outcome have a healthy and proportional  Liquid:smileyvery-happy:ebt ratio?

So for this exercise, there are a few things that I tend not to buy but would love to see improvements in the coming years:

Easy Lipstains.  I love my lip balms and the one from YSL is fantastic.  However, the rest of it makes me cringe.  The lasting power without the side effects, dehydration, and allergic reactions.  Flavors: none; it's not food nor sickengly sweet dentist's office.

No fragrance in certain facial products.  I've seen some skincare lines who proclaimed never to put it in their products cave to the pressure.

Cooling sensation without menthol (mint) products.  This one especially because it is hot but at the same time, not have it completely dry out the skin.

Concealing products that have a good shade range.  Maybe even focus on the very light and very darkest of shades.

Facial quad:  Highlighter, Blush, Bronzer, Contour.  Cream or Powder format.

Limited Edition Makeup Brush Sets that were either focused on an area (face, eyes) or a mixed variety.

Limited Edition light natural based fragrance in purse spray size.

Eco-friendly, recyclable, sustainable packaging (as much as possible).  Small incentives for returning/recycling emptied products.

Lastly, travel goody-related makeup but more on a high end scale.  Quality in mind but still sleek and functional.

I love these ideas!

I think I would invent a long wearing lipcolor that actually hydrates your lips without having to add a top layer to it or bottom layer under it. It would actually make your lips more conditioned after using it, but would stay on throughout the day. It would have to have a pleasent scent (vanilla or mint) and in a huge number of colors for every skin tone. I'm so disappointed by the "long wearing" lip colors out there. The closest thing to this are the lipcolors that leave a slight stain so when it comes off you retain color. I think Makeup Forever does this pretty well and your lips aren't dried out.

Re: If you could invent a cosmetics line, what would be in it?

I was venting about this in another post...but I would love to see a cosmetics/skincare line designed for sensitive skin/rosacea that DOESN'T contained ingredients that may trigger allergies.  I have noticed that many products designed for sensitive skin/rosacea contain ingredients such as chamomile, feverfew and bisabolol.  These ingredients are suppose to be calming and there is research to back this up.  However, they are also all part of the ragweed family.  Over 20% of people in the USA suffer from ragweed allergies/hayfever.  I have noticed that with many of these products, in the review section there is always a small percentage of people who have a bad reaction to the products.....which may seem confusing if the products are designed to be soothing and calming.  Maybe the allergies can account for these negative review and bad reactions, I don't know.  But I would invent products specifically designed with allergies in mind.  I suffer from mild rosacea and I cannot purcahse any of the products meant to help with this condition because they ALL contain some form of chamomile or related ingredient.

Re: If you could invent a cosmetics line, what would be in it?

My line would be called Polished and would feature user-friendly, multi-tasking, long-wearing, makeup in versatile, work/day/school-appropriate shades that make it quick and easy to look pulled together in just a couple minutes on weekday mornings. I am NOT a morning person but I have always had to get up super early for class or work and anything that lets me sleep in a little bit longer is a big plus for me. When it comes to makeup, I love multi-tasking, time-saving products and find that I use those the most, and I know I can't be the only one. The goal is to look polished but not overdone; professional but not flashy, and my line would help you achieve that. After all, this is the makeup we spend 40 hours a week wearing--it's important that we get it right!

For blushes and eyeshadows, I'd do lots of flattering neutrals and nudes in radiant satin finishes, with the goal of helping you look well-rested and fresh, even if you're faking it :smileywink: My products would be richly pigmented so you wouldn't have to waste extra time builiding them up on your face. They'd also be very blendable to help you achieve a natural look. Satiny finishes are perfect for work and school because they give you a glow while still looking professional and polished.

My line would also feature the essentials: an undereye concealer with excellent coverage that won't crease in fine lines (a must!), a top-notch anti-shine setting powder that wouldn't need touch ups later in the day, and a very natural looking highligher with extremely finely milled shimmer so you can achieve a nice glow without worrying that you look like a disco ball at the office.

I'd also feature one-step lip products-- a smoothing primer, moisturizing lipstick, and satiny lip gloss all in one, so that all you have to do is put this one product on bare lips and you're good to go. Again, no visible glitter/shimmer, just a satin finish.

My products would be fragrance free and would avoid any known allergens/irritants and skin-clogging ingredients. If you're going to wear them all day, every day, they need to be comfortable, gentle, and skin-friendly!

For skincare:

-A non-drying, all-in-one cleanser that gently exfoliates and gets off every trace of makeup without extra MU remover or a washcloth/cotton pads so that it's easy to use after a long day and saves you extra steps.

-An all-in-one primer-moisturizer-SPF 30 day cream to save you extra steps in the morning.

-An anti-aging and nourishing night cream that gives your skin lots of vitamins and anti-oxidants while lightweight but deep moisture so your skin stays comfortable through the night and you wake up looking fresh, not oily:smileyhappy:

So yeah. That's my dream cosmetics line :smileyhappy:

A time-released SPF moisturizer! The moisturizer will contain SPF 15-30 but also time-released molecules of SPF that activates after 2hours of sunlight (sort of like time-release retinol on the market). It should also have a serum consistency so the SPF will sink into the skin and provide actual antioxidant benefit and as you sweat/swim or the SPF on the surface becomes ineffective, the serum SPF will be drawn to the skin and provide a 2nd or 3rd surge of SPF. Thus, one application should last 6-8 hours.

An all-in-one cleanser. It will be oil-based liquid like a cross between Clinique's purple make up remover liquid and cream and have small beads/bubbles of deep cleansing cleanser. The liquid gently dissolves ALL make up and dirt on your face and as you rub it in gently while the bubbles work as gentle exfoliation. Then as you rub it in, the bubbles of cleanser breaks and release the cleanser that deep cleans your skin, removing the oily/greasy make up remover liquid.

A smart lip stain/stick. Since the skin on your lips is different from skin on your face, the composition of the stain will make it sink/grab onto the lips but unable to stick onto the facial skin (like if you draw a circle with vaseline and drop colored water in the circle, the water doesn't stain the vaseline or spread beyond it). This way you can apply without looking then just dab/wipe and wah-lah, perfect lips, and the color doesn't seep or travel throughout the day. It will be a super pigmented lip serum so the color and vitamin/nutrients seep into the upper layer of the the lip surface (like how serum disappears into the skin) for super long staying power. The colors will be all-natural so it's ok if it seeps deep within your skin (red from cherry, purple from blueberry, pink from strawberry extract etc).

I'm terrible with coming up with creative/nice names, so it will probably be something boring like...I dunno....something with the word Dynamic or Tech in it?
