Gas Prices

We all have had this conversation with people in our daily lives, but I haven't seen a thread about it on here.  So, how about those gas prices? lol.

Normally, gas prices in my hometown aren't as bad as other places.  Living in a small town has its perks.  However, it looks like summer prices are arriving early.  Lanndan said yesterday he paid 3.6-something per gallon of regular.  During the Fall, gas prices were dropping.  When I was coming home for the weekend last semester, it was almost $3.00 even.  Seeing that was like a welcome home sign lol.  When I went to Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge last week, the prices were almost matched with the ones back home.  Last year, they were cheaper than home, which was beyond weird since it's a tourist place.

If the prices go to 4 or 5 bucks a gallon in the summer, I may not be gassing up my dirtbike as much as I would like.  My car comes first, but it gets great gas mileage.  I drive a 2001 Toyota Corolla.  It's used-squared lol.  My parents bought it used many moons ago, and when mom got the 2007 Camry, they passed the Corolla down to me as long as I kept my grades up and didn't get in trouble.  Thus, used-squared lol.  On one of the beach trips, we found out it got forty-some miles per gallon on the interstate, so I'm happy lol.

Dad gets the best mileage of all because when it warms up he'll be on his motorcycle.  I'd say they'll increase in sales.

Re: Gas Prices

Case in point, I was driving yesterday and wanted to put gas in my car since it is almost on empty (whoops) gas was anywhere from $4.45 to $4.75. At that point I was just in a hurry to find a parking spot to leave my car in until I could get in the garage and still didn't fill up the tank! LOL let's hope it goes down or that I don't need my car for another week or two hahaha. One of my best friends spent $62 filling up her car from the empty sign to full. Way too much! That could be a mascara or three... or 4 Sephora lipglosses, a face serum.. upsetting!:catsad:

@Kimmi I can only imagine having to fill farm equipment up as well as my own car! This is how much of a city person I am, I first thought "wait.. a tractor needs gasoline...?" Let's all pretend I never said that and told any of you now. :smileywink:

Re: Gas Prices

@dianabt - you are a mind reader, as you were talking about how much it cost your friend to fill up, I was counting in mascara's and lip floss too!!! I'm so glad I'm not the only one. It also took me a second when I read kimmi1115 mention gasoline for the tractors, duh, you're not alone. I hope your next trip in the car and to the gas station is mostly down hill so you can coast. Good luck and make sure you have your hair and makeup done, just in case you run out and some white knight comes along to rescue you. Have a good night.

@prettyinpa - I agree, hope more people avoid those.....buttheads. I love my cashback, I have earned way too much cashback and I'm with you, I'm sure as heck not gonna just give it away, and then some.

I think the way they get around the fact that they must post both prices is that they put a special sign by the street advertising the lower price. Then they post both prices at the pump. They're working on changing that. It just amazes me that they do that.

One of my brothers got rid of his truck for that very reason, and he has never driven anything but a truck, it hurt him to do it, but it hurt more every time he was at the pump. He drives about 2+ hours daily and it was costing him a fortune. My other brother still has his truck but also has a car, he rarely uses the truck. Man, $10.00 used to go a long way, didn't it? I agree, states that produce oil and gas should get some kind of price break. It seems pretty obvious. What's wrong with that picture?

Re: Gas Prices

@keelybt - it's pretty rude charging all of that extra $$$. Who the heck do they think they are? Trying to cut into our Sephora budgets!! The nerve. :smileytongue: :smileyvery-happy:

Re: Gas Prices

@keelybt - I know, isn't that insane? It is something new but more and more places are doing it, Luckily, since people are becoming more and more incensed they are being forced to address and hopefully forbid this type of thing. Not that long ago stations all around here used to encourage credit card usage so their employees didn't have to deal with cash and so they didn't have all that cash lying around. (I've always lived in really nice, low-crime areas so it's not like that was the reason stations didn't want cash on hand - now they want all cash) I don't know. I hope more people will chime in and let us know if this is happening all over. The sad thing is there are a lot of people who don't have cash, they're forced to live off of credit cards. I'm hopeful that they will put a stop to this though.

Like you said, you don't mind that much if it's a nominal charge, but they've gotten a little out of control. I hope and pray for change. Soon. Thanks for your response keely. Have a great day.

Re: Gas Prices

Gas prices in the bay area are super high right now. Although I do have my license I don't currently have a car. Public transportation in the city and in neighboring cities is really good here, so I don't really miss having a vehicle. I am considering getting a Fiat...I guess my theory is 'the smaller the car the cheaper it'll be to gas up' when in reality I'm sure I won't be filling up my tank for less than $35 :smileysad:.

Whimsically yours,

Re: Gas Prices

Gas prices are ridiculous!  It's around $4.50 here and it's probably still going to go up.  I remember the good old days when I could fill up my tank for $20. :smileysad: I don't think I've ever seen it go over $5 (or I've repressed those memories).

Re: Gas Prices

@keelybt - okay, you know this is a serious matter because I am about to give out some information that will seriously date me. Here goes.....I can remember going out with a friend and she'd put $3.00 worth of gas in her tank. Yes, your eyes are not deceiving you, $3.00! Of course I don't remember it clearly as I was in a car seat at the time. Oh, and when I said friend I meant babysitter. Not working, is it? Little to late to back peddle? Well, it's official, it's out there. I'm old!!!! Old-ish. Old-er (than I was, than I'd like to be)

Oh, and when I get my hair colored it is most definitely to cover grays. I'm just enhancing the natural color of my God-given auburn locks. Atleast that's what I tell myself to make me feel a little better. I'd like to put a smiley face here but they don't make one that says smiley-LAME.

LOL I too remember when less than $10 made a difference in the gas tank.  When I first started driving, I paid $1.17 a gallon and if you couldn't afford to fill it up, adding a few dollars would at least take you through the daily errands.

@keelybt - I remember that. We'd put in a few dollars (3-5-8-10) and it would get us to the mall, movies, diner. Well, basically, anywhere there were boys!
