Dupes

This is kind of branching off from the Splurge or Save topic posted a little back, I figured since there we got to post the products we love to spend and save on, and give an opinion as to how we felt about the products, that we could also share products that we've found in brands that are practically dupes that could also save us some money.

Keep in mind, that if you share dupes, the products have to be similar, in other words if you post mascaras, the higher end product and the lower cost product must fit in the same category (ex. curling mascara/curling mascara, it can't just be any type of mascara in general), this will help those who want to look up color specific items easier. :smileyhappy:

Here are some of mine, feel free to share some of your fave dupes!

Blush/bronzer combos:

High End: NARS Highlighting/Bronzing Blush Duo in Orgasm/Laguna

Lower Cost Dupe: E.L.F. Studio Contouring Blush & Bronzing Powder (one shade)

Although Orgasm appears to be more pink, the E.L.F blush gives a very similar pink flush and in fact may compliment paler/fairer complexions even better, the fact that the E.L.F. costs $3 is just something you can't beat!

Nail Polish:

High End: O.P.I. Onyx (black)
Low Cost Dupe: Wet N' Wild Black Creme

I've found the O.P.I. formula to be a little more watery than the Wet N' Wild formula, and I love that the Wet N' Wild one is super opaque and is 99 cents! Anytime I'm trying to hide any nail polish chips or mistakes of other colors and am in a rush for an event and don't have time to remove and start colors all over, I grab for Black Creme and do one coat, bam, instant chic dark nails!

Lip Liner:

High End: MAC lip liner in Spice
Low Cost Dupe: Ulta Contour lip liner in Spice

The Ulta one costs half as much as the MAC one and is usually on a buy one get one or buy one get one half price sale, plus it comes in a regular, sharpen it yourself pencil or an automatic twist pencil.

HD Powder:

High End: MUFE HD Microfinish Powder

Low Cost Dupe: E.L.F Studio High Definition Powder

The E.L.F one is jsut $6 and it's a huge jar! Although the MUFE feels smoother and more finely milled if you rub the product between your fingers, one applied with a fan brush or stipling brush, you can't tell the difference one its on, I've worked professional photo shoots with both products and you can't tell the difference on camera either!

Eye Shadow:

High End: Urban Decay Eye Shadow in Black Out (matte black)

Low Cost Dupe: NYX eye shadow in Black

The NYX eye shadow costs about $3/$4 (always on sale at Ulta, too) and is soooooo pigmented! I know with matte shadows getting an even color pay off is tricky, and although Urban's does a wonderful job, NYX is a very impressive player in this round. My boyfriend works haunted houses during the Halloween season and only uses actual costmetics to do his make up and SFX looks (no cheap grease paint for him), and when he was looking for a matte black shadow, I turned him on to NYX and he can't be happier! It even shows up without a strong primer, but def looks even better with!

I love the E.L.F.  POWDER ...it's so much cheaper than MUFE...I agree no one can tell the differnce once it is on but your pocketbook can. I don't think their palettes come close to Sephora's holiday ones though.

I agree, to me the E.L.F. palettes are like the Coastal Scents Palettes, but I even think the CS ones are better, def not up to par compared to MUFE or Urban Decay, but something fun to play with. The pretty colors get me, but I keep telling myself my giant stash of eye shadows doesn't need to grow any more! Ha! :smileyvery-happy:

Great ideas. Thank you!! Will have to try some of them, especially the ELF blush! What a great deal.

No prob! I'm glad to share and one can never beat a bargain! I mean sure, some products we just find to be our faves and it's a must-have, but other times, if you can find a deal, it's even better!

The blush/bronzer combo is really pretty, and it's even got write ups in plenty of beauty magazines as a dupe for NARS!
