Favorite cruelty-free and/or vegan products
Hi, I thought I would start a thread where we can share and recommend our favorite makeup and skin care items that are cruelty/free and/or vegan. Sephora carries a lot of these brands. The ones I know or have been suggested by BT posters are listed below.      Available at Sephora: Spoiler (Highlight to read) Anastasia Beverly Hills Bite Butter London Coola Cover FX Dr. Dennis Gross ( vegan products are labeled) Drunk Elephant Fab Hourglass Josie Maran Kate Somerville Kat Von D Koh Gen Do Lavanilla Murad Nails Inc Nars NUDE Skincare Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Ole Henricksen Omorovicza Ren Smashbox Supergoop Tarte Tata Harper Tatcha Too Faced Urban Decay Supergoop Anastasia Beverly HillsBiteButter LondonCoolaCover FXDr. Dennis Gross ( vegan products are labeled)Drunk ElephantFabHourglassJosie MaranKate SomervilleKat Von DKoh Gen DoLavanillaMuradNails IncNarsNUDE SkincareObsessive Compulsive CosmeticsOle HenricksenOmoroviczaRenSmashboxSupergoopTarteTata HarperTatchaToo FacedUrban DecaySupergoop     Other lines not at Sephora:   Spoiler (Highlight to read) Aveda The Body Shop Chantaceille Charlotte Tilbury Colourpop Essentielle Eyeko Ilia Beauty IT Cosmetics John Masters Klairs Lush NYX Paula's Choice Physician's Formula Spa Ritual RMS Beauty Zoya AvedaThe Body ShopChantaceilleCharlotte TilburyColourpopEssentielleEyekoIlia BeautyIT CosmeticsJohn MastersKlairsLushNYXPaula's ChoicePhysician's FormulaSpa RitualRMS BeautyZoya     I really like skincare by Josie Maran especially the Argan Oil and Milk moisturizer. I have also used the cleansing oil but am not currently. For her makeup, I like the eye shadow palettes but they are limited now on Sephora. The Argan oil mascara is a nice everyday mascara. There are a lot of her products that I want to try. The only one I have tried that I haven't liked are the cheek tint sticks. I just started using the Hourglass mineral primer and it's pretty good. Tarte has great palettes and I've liked everything I have tried.   Any products you would recommend or other brands?

Non toxic make-up recommendations?
What brands are the best non toxic make-up?. The website rates the toxic levels in makeup and I was horrified whtn I realized the poisen I was putting on myself. We need more clean/pure makeup lines.  I have tried Juice Beauty (good skincare , makeup needs improvement, they coming out in Jan 16 with a Gweneth Paltrow line.)  I have tried Suzanne Somers, like the foundation but not much else.   Thanks,

Gluten Free and Oil Free Skin Care
I need some help, I've been using this Japanese line "IPSA" is water based, whitening effect, and SPF 40 in the moisturizer as well, I've never had any acne breakouts.   Ever since I became Celiac had stopped using this product line, have problems finding the "Right" cleanser, toner, moisturizer, antiaging serums, etc.  I have milia spots on my cheeks, acne cyst keeps appearing the hairline follicles etc,.. Dermatologist draining my savings account from: chemical peel, microdermabrasion + blu u, IPL, more facials.  Once I stopped treatment everything comes back, its a bandaid effect.   I used Cetaphil facial cleanser, my face had an allergic reaction, it burned and face was peeling for weeks.  Very sensitive. I've been to Murale, Shoppers, etc and sales rep mentioned "you're using it on your face; it's not like your absorbing the product in your body. it doesn't need to be gluten free"   I've been researching for weeks now looking for reviews on Gluten Free, water based cleanser, toner, daily moisturizer, anti-aging serum helps erase wrinkles.  Any recoomendations? Also scent-free or lightly scented? (allergies & asthma) If any of you or your family/friends have good results of product lines, please let me know.   Thanks

Dangers of Josie Maran Argan Oil on Face
*EDIT*  This is a really old post, almost a year old, but I'm happy it was revived because it means people are using the search bar. Yay! HIGH FIVE! I'm not going to edit my previous post, because that would be wrong. I may have written it quickly & jumped the gun. Not all oils are bad, and not everyone will have the same results as me. Everyone's skin is different. Sephora & their employees like to overly promote the "flavor of the week". When this post was written, they were pushing Argan Oil non stop & I got a little frustrated with all the pushing of something Dermatologists weren't keen on.  I would like to add that, I am not using PTR oil-less oil, it's 100% squalane that is sugar derived (not sharks) and it works really well for me.    What I've recently found out though is that a lot of people are applying oils the wrong way . We were always taught to apply face products in order of thickness: toner/softener-> serum-> treatment-> moisturizer. The thing is oils are heavy, a lot heavier than most moisturizers even though they feel "light". Oils form a barrier and block Hyaluronic Acid and other benefit ingredients from penetrating into the skin . So really, you should be applying your oil last, to lock in all the moisture and benefits from your serums & moisturizer.      *ORIGINAL POST*  I've been using Argan Oil on my hair for years & never had a problem Recently I got the 500 pt perk that included her Argan Oil. Everyone raves about it's benefits on the face, so I figured I'd give it a shot since this cold weather has been brutal on my skin. I have not changed anything else in my skincare, or makeup routine. After about 5 days of nighttime use, I started noticing a rash developing on my face near my nose (my dry spot areas). So I did a little Google search and was shocked to see all the negatives about Argan Oil on the face. Argan oil has many benefits in food and on hair, but the FDA has not cleared it for use on the face. Dermatologists freak out when they hear patients use it because it can bring on rosacea and is highly comedogenic. Any oil (natural or not) will clog pores. I'm surprised Sephora promotes something when it is highly advised by Doctors not to be used on the face.

No more microbeads! And what's YOUR favorite scrub?
US Law passed today banning microbeads in beauty products! It's mostly from scrubs but sometimes also added into cleansers, toothpaste etc. Usually plastic, they get in the water and harms the fish.   I was surprised some of my favorite scrubs contain it (Clinique, Laura Mercier, Bliss, ExfoliKate) and I hope they reformulate soon. If you are not from US and microbeads is still allowed there, you can download an app (or check a PDF list, by country) of products containing microbeads on BeatTheMicrobeads website.   I've been looking for alternatives, currently loving my Tatcha Rice Enzyme Powder, Philosophy Resurface Dual-Phase Peel and Dr. Brandt Microdermbrasion. What are your favorite microbeads free scrubs?

What Ingredients Do You Avoid?
Two years ago, I wrote an article on my blog called 'Chemicals Hiding in Your Beauty Products'. In the blog post, I mentioned that I would be staying away from the following:  Dioxane and Quaternium-15 Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES) Parbens At the time, I went through all of my makeup products and threw out anything containing those ingredients - a lot of them had parabens.   I know a lot has changed in the past two years and I'm wondering if there are other ingredients I should be avoiding as well. What do you ladies avoid??   Also, what is your favorite website for looking up ingredients if they aren't printed on the product itself?

Sensitive, dry skin, breaking out
I'm at a loss of what to do next to try and get my skin back on track.   For years I used proactiv and it worked great, even though it did severely dry out my skin. I dealt with the super tight, stingy skin after washing because it stopped my blackheads and occasional pimple. I'd slather on lotion to combat the dryness and go about my business. Then it just slowly stopped working to keep my pores clear and stop breakouts.   After a ton of research and debating, I decided to try oil cleansing. It blew my mind. It was so simple and my skin seriously never looked better... for about 3 months. Then my pores started clogging and serious painful pimples started to show up. I've tried switching oils and added a witch hazel toner. I just ended up with extra dry skin and lots of breakouts. I even tried only 'washing' my face with oil once a week and using the witch hazel (unscented, alcohol-free) on the other days. Still dry. Still painfully breaking out. Still blackheads.   I tried Philosphy's 3-in-1 Purity made Simple. It seemed like exactly what I wanted - a simple, easy solution. It was painful to use and my face was red and stinging for a few days after two uses. (I know, why did I bother the second time when the first hurt so much? I don't know...)   I told this story in store and Clinique's Take the Day Off cleansing balm was recommended to me as a cleanser. I used nothing but this for about a week, then added in a gentle drugstore blackhead scrub that I've used and had on hand, hoping to scrub off some of the flakiness. I've been using it every other day or so.   I still have dry, flaky skin from my nose down. My pores are still very clogged. I don't know what to try next. I don't mind spending money if it's going to work, but I hate the idea of spending $40+ on a facial cleanser to try out for a few weeks, putting harsh chemicals all over my face, and ending up with the same painful, red, clogged, flaky skin that I have now.   Help, please.

Budget Bride Needs Advice on Investing in a Few Natural Products for Wedding
I'm new to the forum, but I have a request for advice:   My wedding is this year in the late fall, and I have started thinking ahead to which makeup I will use. I plan to go for a consultation in-store, but I want to be prepared with community suggestions first. So, please let me know what you think!   The reasons I want advice are 1) I am on a budget, and I don't want to buy a whole arsenal of new makeup, just a few key items that will be  useful after the wedding and/or would take my wedding look (and photos) to the next level; 2) I try to buy natural (and organic) skin and makeup products as much as possible because I believe it is healthier for me, the producers, and the environment; 3) I am not up on the newest products and lines.   I often don't wear much makeup, but I do have experience and technical knowledge (my mom loves makeup, so she took me to the MAC counter and bought me Bobby Brown and Kevyn Aucoin books when I was a teenager!).   I already have and really like products from Josie Maran (luminizer cream, argan face oil, blush stick, lip gloss), Korres (concealer, bronzer), 100 Percent Pure (eye cream, powder blush, eyeshadow, mascara), and Burt's Bees (tinted lip balm). But I think I will need a primer or finishing powder, a foundation, a lip stain or stick, an eyeliner, and maybe a couple other items. Haircare and skincare suggestions are welcome too!

natural skin care!
Hello! So I want to start off by talking about my struggle with skin care. I originally was using the intense hydrating toner, night, and day moisturizer from the body shop which was great and gave my skin a ton of moisture. However I felt like the product contained lots of ingredients that I didn't want on my skin and felt like it was leaving sort of a film! So multiple times I have gone into sephora looking for a new skin care routine and ending up buying the products that they recommend (are pushing for that week) only to find I have wasted money and my makeup looks cakey and gross because my skin is still dry! The last recommendation was the lotus moisturizer but I have noticed it is very drying and my makeup ended up looking worse with this product! I almost feel like there are tons of products in the market that don't do what they say and sifting through them costs a lot of money and time!! Does anyonr know of any skin care lines that have been recommended by a dermatologist or that you can recommend helps with dry skin and has more natural ingredients? I have heard of Sanistas recently but am hesitant to try it since it's not very well known!

New to the naturals bandwangon
Hey,   So I got a sample of Caudalie's Vinoperfect serum from Sephora a few while ago and it lasted me about month. In that short time I fell head over heels for it and was thinking of buying it. Went to the store and chatted with a store clerk about it. She told me that I'm "too young" to start using that kind of stuff (I'm 23). So I started doing some research on natural skincare products and... OMG... there is so much out there and I'm a bit overwhelmed. Was wondering if there was anything that I should totally try and anything to avoid... and of course... is there a such thing as "too young" when it comes to nurturing your skin?   <3   ps: normal to combination skin, dislikes greasy facial products

Beauty from within - do you take any vitamins/supplements daily ?
Hello there   Recently, I've been really interested in expanding my knowledge on supplements and vitamins. I have done a lot of readings and here is what I take on a weekly basis:    * Nature's Bounty - Hair, Skin & Nails Extra Strength They say to take 3 pills a day but each one contains 5000 mcg of Biotin. I only take one a day cause I am worried of the most common side effect: acne. I might increase the dose later on. * Evening Primrose Oil 500mg Again, they say to take 3  day, but I only take one a day. I have yet to see results !   * Multivitamins for Woman One every other day (the day I don't take the next one) * Vitamin B-Complex One every other day (the day that I don't day Multivitamins)   So gals, what kind of supplements do you take on a daily basis and why ? Any to recommend ?    (I have been thinking of replacing my Hair,Skin & Nails supplements with the Hairfinity supplements...but I am still on the fence about it.)
